Uma's character

As a viewer it is extremely difficult to gauge Uma's character because it is so complex! Sometimes I hate him and sometimes I love him! I believe that Uma is not a bad person but is a very narrow minded individual who can do anything to fulfill his 'dharam'. His dharam is based on misogyny and extreme influence of patriarchy and this is something I am looking forward to be tackled further on the show. Will Uma change? Will he accept Kanak as she is and will his view of the world change? The concept of this show is so different from Diya aur Baati Hum and I think its much more convoluted. Kanak is a bubbly girl who is so different from Sandhya while one cannot compare Sooraj and Uma. But it makes me sad that Sooraj's daughter is the wife of a man who does not believe in gender equality. Sooraj who was much less educated than Uma and also under constant pressure to be the best son to Bhabho and take care of the family, always gave Sandhya's dreams and ambitions his priority. The best thing was that he was never jealous or had ego issues with Sandhya being an IPS officer, who was much more influential and respected than him. The majority of the issues the couple faced were because of Bhabho and the Rathi family and the always worked together to solve them because their priority was the same; family comes first. So they had the same value system. But Kanak and Uma Shankar have completely different values and beliefs. How will they ever make this marriage work? I know they will end up together but I don't want Kanak to submit to Uma's will but rather be herself and do stuff which she enjoys doing. I am getting tired of the various poojas they have in Uma Shankar's house. I know it is a major part of the serial, but I want to know more about Uma's character aside from meditating, or preaching. He is intensely attracted towards Kanak but why? Because she is the one Bholenath wanted him to marry or because he desires her?

I would say that Uma is a good human being (and looking 😃) grown up amidst outdated masters. They taught him not only wrong lessons, but didn't let him to be himself or see anything else but presumed God's rules. They taught him to be blind outside religion. He barely talks about his wishes or feelings. Also he is smart, introvert, wise, honest and possessive.

Nice post. Your views on DABH are so authentic. Even I felt bad for Suraj's daughter for not getting a hubby like her dad. Uma is not too bad but is very much a kuven ka mendak. He does need to broaden his outlook and with Kanak by his side, it could happen. Currently Kanak cares zsero for him. So the situation is pretty dire. Uma guards his heart rigidly, Being a romantic, I want some feeling to start somewhere. I am getting a bit impatient!
