Finally I got around to do a binge watch of this week's last three episodes. I felt that the pace had slowed a bit in the second one which I think continued in the third...but boy did it pick up in the last two!

1. Vatsalya is dead

Okay...I never thought a character could make an impression in such a short span of time...but clearly good writing can accomplish that. The actor who enacted Vatsalya also did a bang up job.

The way Vatsalya passed away, singing on the phone with his mom was heartrending. Though we saw this coming, since some scenes were rife with foreboding...it was still tragic. Vatsalya will certainly be missed.

2. Satrupa

I like how they are showing different facets of her character...the happy person that she is with her son...the cautious facade she maintains even with her husband...and the ruthless one that dealt out punishment to the men sent to kill Vatsalya. And seems like she has an unhappy marriage...she mentioned that she was married off at seventeen. Certainly intriguing.

3. The siblings

The third episode made quite a mark with the bonding between Vatsalya and Anami...as they shared their innermost feelings with each other..each bearing their own burdens. Very poignant.

And i loved how this scene was followed with the bond between Anami and Laddoo. Brothers need not be made by blood alone😊 the story that laddoo relates about a powerful sorceress coming to snatch Anami away is rife with foreshadowing.

4. It's intriguing that Narottam saw Vatsal run away but didn't say anything...but I am still not going to invest him with ulterior motives.

5. Sangeeta Ghosh made a mark in today's episode and boy...she was fabulous as ever! That hint of menace...the way she revelled in Vatsal's death...very well enacted.

6. Hero ka entry bhi hogaya...CBI wala hai😆 and seems like he has some past with the family as well.

7. The scenes with Anami and her family again was the calm before the storm...I'm sure Satrupa will use her power to snatch Anami away from them. Satrupa's grief on losing Vatsal again was heart-wrenching.

Asli kahaani toh abb shuru hui hai...let's see what they have in store!

Excellent analysis ! Yes the way Sangeeta was singing the same song Vatsalya did before he met with an accident , was quiet a nice touch by the makers. Felt very eerie, also the way she cried in happiness , and wore red to mark his demise . She has definitely piqued my interest in the show.

Excellent analysis.. Amri right (we 'met' in Aisi deewangi forum😳). great to see you here. will be looking forward to more beautiful posts from you.

So far i am loving this show. i don't remember the last time i watched a show for drama. this is a rarest show i am hooked not for ships or love stories or knights.. but for characters. what a bloody good story telling. and such powerpacked characters.

don't mind my random thoughts here. Here we go.

Vaatsalya. - Abhimanyu of the Chakravyuh.

Such a precious character. endearingly real. Too bad curtains were drawn on this character too soon. i was SO looking forward for his bonding with Anaami; his scenes with Narottam; his own arc.
Maybe he didn't die. The typical memory loss, coma yada yada way or is being kept hidden and safe by Satrupa herself.
but then again.. this is not a typical serial. Satrupa using Anaami as bait would be killer twist though. She did look deadly and dead serious mouthing those Satta dialogues in promo. A mother baying for vengeance or looking to protect her child and slay those who dared to touch her mancub.. will make an interesting watch.

though i would love to see him being alive and coming back someday .. i can understand if he has been given his farewell too.
coz this is Chakravyuh. and Abhimanyu has to die for the war to turn a darker turn.

coz in the power games adults play.. it is the innocent young ones who end up paying the ultimate price. From Ghatochgaj to sons of pandavas to Abhimanyu.. some sacrificed at the altar of war.. some slain to further the battle.

Blood of innocents drench the battlefields first.

Anaami. - Karna.

though i loved the promos what sold the show to me was the article about the writer of the show. the writer said: once his mother told him . 'If Karna were to be a women.. Story of Mahabharat would have be on whole new zone'.
and that's how genesis of Anaami happened.

Karna.. my favourite from Mahabharat.
The tragic hero. The one who has seen the hell yet the one whose aura remained the brightest. Despite being on the side of supposed villains .. one who will always remain a hero.

Kunti.. his mother by default of giving him birth. Abandoned him when he was a mere child and then came back for him.. not out of love or tearing sense of guilt.. but to demand her pound of flesh from him for giving birth to him.
'Don't kill my sons'.

and the generous hero promises..
'Barring Arjun I won't kill any of your sons. I promise'.

and he died upholding that promise.
but one thing he denied her. That of being her son. He chose to remain,.,.Radheya. Son of Radha. The mother who raised him.

Anaami has chosen to remain daughter of her 'Pagli panditayan'.
Hope she won't give in to her mother by birth and promise 'the pound of flesh'.

It is heartwarming to see her with her 'family'. her father, mother and little brother. The pathak parivaar. who says blood relations are stronger?
Heart and soul bonds are precious than bonds born out of blood. Blood may call... but heart.. Sings.

Narottam. - Shikhandi.

The joker of the pack no one cares about. and then comes a turn when a joker will turn the entire course of the game.

unwanted, degraded, humiliated, wronged.. Shikhandi. and then (S)he wrecked his vengeance and won his justice by ironically on the strength of what was perceived as something deserving nothing but scorn. (S)he being born the way (S)he was.

Did Narottam kept his silence when he saw Vaatsalya running away or he informed Tej khan?

if he kept his silence then for what?
he loves and cares about his brother and didn't want to 'snitch'.
or he deliberately chose to see his brother walking away to meet a near certain fatal end.. for what could be a better vengeance than to see the heir and most loved person of the family which wronged him to inhuman extent... die.. and witness the family crumbling in mortal pain and mourning?

either ways.. i will be looking forward to see the arc of this character. He is intriguing. and who can blame him if he chooses to embrace the dark. I for one .. won't.
I would love to see his bonding with Anaami. and maybe a day will come when (if he goes dark) he will end up hurting Anaami. That would be so wrong.. Hurting those who were the only ones to stand by your side. but then again in Mahabharat... there is no right or wrong.
No white or black.

all that there is... is Power. and duty.

You got to do what you have to do... for love; for duty and above all for Power... and vengeance.

@YKHRH and @Banjaaran - loved your write ups!

Vaatsalya - Interesting allusions to the sky over the past few eps: from feeling like a caged bird under a "majboor asmaan" to escaping the (what felt like) overprotective folds of his mother's rules under a hopeful dawn sky, to enjoying a sky full of possibilities on the rooftop of a bus with fellow passengers, to coming back under the family's "chatrachaya" but on his own terms, to that fatal accident with (as far as we know) his soul ascending to its heavenly abode.

Narottam - though he was only present in that one scene where he notices Vaatsalya escaping the house, in the above context of sky symbolism his silent watch had seemed to me more like gazing at his brother enjoying the taste of freedom - something he has never felt because he is trapped. Trapped under the tag of being a bas***d son and trapped as a woman in a man's body (I presume from inference). So to me I felt like he knew the value of freedom and didn't want to ruin the moment for his brother. I could be wrong though... we barely know these characters and this is Rishton Ka Charavyuh...

Satrupa - She's a woman in control. She gets assassins thrown into the river, has a bodyguard continually keeping watch over her son, is careful not to sing in front of the househelp, holds a level of authority in the house, and has the upper hand in the relationship with her husband... the only thing she can never seem to control is her child. Vaatsalya because she loves him & ends up indulging him. Anaami because she is a force of her own. Vaatsalya came back to Lal Mahal on his own terms and I think Anaami too may come there on her own terms perhaps (she may ask Satrupa to do something for her foster family as a "shart"?)

Anaami - To me we've been seeing her in the context of bonds. Vaatsalya tied his protective bond over on to her wrist when they bonded at the ghat. She assures Laddoo she has an unbreakable bond with him and her family and will always be there for him. She wants to help her foster family become upwardly mobile through English. She has two different types of bonds with her present and absent mothers. And she might find herself bound into the Lal Mahal politics due to whatever deal goes down with Satrupa

Sudha - Intriguing lady. "Sukoon tou shringar aur sangeet mein hi hai Naina - baaki sab boring hai!" she declares as she enjoys her almost bride-like attire amidst the white clad mourning happening in Lal Mahal. Was she a courtesan with whom Satrupa's husband sired Narottam - hence the dance-related bullying he is made to suffer?

Oh yes, the same song was sung by her- added that touch of menace very subtly.

And the way she said- sab laal hai- mere haath bhi.

Is she also complicit in this plan?

Very interesting.

Yayy. Nice to see a friend here!😳 And WORD to what you said about being hooked to this show for the writing and the family drama than the shipping.

First of all, I loved reading your whole comment, it gave a lot of food for thought and was quite profound!👏

I loved what you said about Vatsal and the parallel with Abhimanyu and how innocents are slaughtered in this quest for power- I also believe that there are other parallels, the Arjun-Karna one, the Draupadi-Drishtadyumna-Shikhandi one when it comes to the siblings. It is really interesting to see all these character resonances- but at the same time these characters also have these idiosyncrasies which make them effective and stand out.

I particularly loved the parts you said in BOLD about Satrupa, Narottam, Anami and the Pagli Panditayin- I do think however that despite her thirst for power Satrupa does love Anami- in one of the promos you see her teary-eyed when Anami indirectly accuses her of abandoning her because she is a girl and the Guruji says that she probably did it because of some majboori:

But yes, she is indeed a satrap and brings Anami back for the satta. It is going to be AMAZING to see these two strong, mercurial women at loggerheads. And I am curious to see how they will come to bond with one another.

As for this part: I just LOVED what you said:👏

LOVELY post!⭐️

I particularly loved the bits in BOLD and have been pondering over them as well. I loved what you said about the sky symbolism in particular.

Honestly both Anami and Vatsalya have had their share of difficulties, their own crosses to bear. For Vatsalya, it is his legacy that ties him down, while for Anami, it is the very lack of it- rather, the denial of it, which brings her down.

Yes, I am sure Anami is now going to pose a condition to Satrupa with regard to her foster family's welfare...but she will also use this as an opportunity to cause chaos I guess😛😆

The thing is many characters have the potential to be game changers- the Machiavellian Pujan, the sinister courtesan Sudha; Narottam- the woman-trapped-in-a-man's-body...hell, even the father figures, Dadaji and Vikram are not so straight.

At the heart of this are the two central figures:Satrupa and Anami, who are perhaps too similar to each other for their own good- but the difference is perhaps that Anami's moral compass is more finely honed on account of her upbringing in the Pathak family, especially at the hands of the Pagli Panditayin. An interesting comment on nature versus nurture in a way.

I am so bullish about the upcoming week, especially after the riveting fifth episode and the promos, I can't even begin to tell you😃 And thanks for the lovely comment. I really enjoyed reading it!⭐️
