"Jispe Hum Marr Mite ... Usko Pata Hi Nahi
Kya Gila Hum Kare ... Woh Bewafa Bhi Nahi
She hurried out of the classroom and stumbled down the stairs almost hurting herself but still continued to run across the canteen and reach the parking to locate her scooty. She exasperatedly hit her head because some idiotic lurch had again parked his bike behind her scooty in such a way that it was going to be difficult for her to drive her vehicle out. She yelled calling the watchman for help and when the old man was angling her scooty shifting a little by every degree to fetch it out, she checked the time on her mobile phone. She was obviously late again ... by half an hour today.
She drove past the college gate to witness a circus of buses, cars, rickshaws and even a truck gathered at the main intersection of her way. Again she will have to patiently wait till the traffic signal goes green. DAMN, firstly she got scolded by her professor, then she was not able to take down proper notes in the class, her best friend had ditched her to survive two boring lectures alone for a movie date and now she was late ... her day is cursed. The very thought of Angry Kara is forcing Goosebumps in her skin.
She drove trying to control her speed on the slippery road on this drizzly day. Again she had a problem with the notions of Indian equality. The roads were meant to be shared by all along with four and two wheeled vehicles, the vegetable vendors, the peanut hawkers, the various cloth salesmen and even cows! Adjoining her frustration was the condition of roads, nobody was ever able to figure out that the road had so many potholes or so many potholes had some road. Now even her dress was dirty because of the splash of puddle water.
Finally she parked the scooty in front of his studio and ran to push the heavy Oakwood door.
"Hum aa gaye Omkaraji!!! she excitedly announced.
So here I introduce to you a chirpy chirraiyya GAURI KUMARI SHARMA who is a third year student of the faculty of fine arts. Once upon a time she had come to Omkara seeking help for an exam project. The teacher student bond is strong since then. The project was submitted a long time back but seeing the finesse of her work. Omkara insisted that she assisted him for an upcoming exhibition.
He stood still leaning against the window ledge staring at something imaginary in the small garden outside. Listening to her voice he turned to look at her and gave her a plain look, he did not say a word and that scared every nerve of her body. She knew such behaviour of him, he is sad. Gauri's mind was blasting, seeing him act in such a way was dreadful for her. She hated his silent treatment so much. Thinking about the various reasons about why he was quite, her Brain stormed thinking about his parents, the botox bitch Svetlana, his heartbreaker Ridhhima ... she continued thinking of whether he had a fight with his brothers? She knew he was never going to behave in such a way because she is late. Now she had to find a solution. He had to be distracted...
"Omkaraji ... humme na Rudra se woh fruit punch waali recipe chaahiye! she said animatedly and received a piece of charcoal hit straight into her temple, Okay that hurt a little and he began to chuckle ... " Fruit punch ki recipe wala idea bohot purana ho gaya hain Gauri try something new! Om said imitating her expressions and she bit her tongue because he was right ... the idea of fruit punch distraction was celebrating a silver jubilee today but anyways she was successful. His mind is diverted and he is smiling ... she would happily give away her life for that smile ... that poetic romantic smile.
He started sketching something roughly on his sketch pad trying hard to concentrate on whatever he was doing. This pin drop silence was so torturous for her. She knew he was dealing with something that was breaking his heart; he often detached himself from the surroundings to disintegrate in his pain. She was having the ultimate EK JHAAP MEIN DEEWAR PE SATT JAIIBE feeling for whoever and whatever the reasons of his irrational mindset are. She could handle an Angry Kara with utmost care but such Silent and Zoned Kara were pain in her head and heart. Why can't all the ridiculous people of the world let him breathe peacefully?!?!
"Maine aaj Dr. Se baat ki, Mom ke reports are not good... her heart is functioning at just 60 percent of what it actually should, she is traumatized... " Omkara said to Gauri when she was diluting a can of paint. She was shocked and went to stand beside him. A lone tear escaped from his eye. " Jahnvi aunty ek strong insaan hain Omkaraji ... hum prarthna karenge shakarji se Shankarji se, woh bilkul theek ho jaaegi. Please aap zyada pareshaan mat hoiyye nahi toh aapki bhi tabiyat kharaab ho jaaegi ... phir maa ka dhyaan kaun rakhega? Gauri consoled him, her hand tightly gripping his shoulder. He looked at her with a calm smile. She was the only person he met everyday other that Shivaay and Rudra and so he always told her about his tensions, he felt better.
" Gauri tumhaare jumke kaha hain? Om asked her finally able to decode of what is so unusual about her today. There is not a single day when she can forget to wing her eyeliner and wear pretty earrings. An essential element of her missing today. Gauri did not wear any jhumke today because the pair she wanted to wear was missing from her dressing table. She kept staring at Omkara who was awaiting an explanation ... she fumbled and then could not give any proper reason ... so she sweetly started humming ...
" JHUMKA GIRA RE ... HUM DONO KI TAKRAAR MEIN ... HAA JHUMKA GIRA RE, BAREILLY KE BAZAAR MEIN ...
Omkara just admired her voice, she was looking so cute. Gauri had her own reasons that she wanted to sing ... sing for him. First being that she was the atmosphere to be light hearted and second that she sang well, he loved her voice. She so knew that now she is going to imagine herself dancing on this song for him in a very filmy situation. After observing that she can portray so many expressions with her face, silently in just a minute ... Omkara got back to his work.
She poured herself a cup of hot ginger tea from her thermos watching him paint the feathers of a beautiful peacock. Her work for today was almost done; she just had to do some detailing in one sculpture but it was hard for her to concentrate because of him, the bespectacled him, the dangerously handsome him. Every thought of him was swoon worthy. She loves the gem of a person he is, she loves the complex character he is, she loves the simple human being he is ... she loves OMKARA.
He is a dream but she knows her reality as well. He is a prince charming for sure but she knew what she was living is not a fairy tale, at least not her fairy tale... even when he rubbishes of the concepts of blood line and titles. She very well knows where she stands, no way a chance with him. The connection they share is much more than formal and sophisticated and she does not dare confess her stupid feelings to lose a friendship so special. He is an aching soul who deserves to be happy and that is what she always does ... pray for his happiness.
So again a girl had come to meet him, his perspective bride ... a royal alliance. She is the eleventh girl who had come to see him this week and he behaved his polite best with her. Gauri was so jealous and angry. She always understood of whether Om is interested in any girl or not just by looking at his face. She knew him and she knew he was never interested and she is so furious for all his gentlemanly antics. All girls drool over him so god damn much as if he is a fresh piece of hot brownie at the bakery counter!
Gauri was trying her level best to understand that she has to move on ... just a matter of some more time and then she has to leave him as soon as the exhibition got over and he will be happily married to a girl who can match his wealth, his name and his lineage ... being an orphan Gauri could never have the courage of thinking about a life with him... they are two different people ... supposed in two different worlds. Gauri flouted that she can ever deserve him, that he will ever accept her as a life partner... laughing at herself that how she thought of him to be Shankarji's blessing for her realizing that even their names are meant for each other ... GAURI & OMKARA.
She was painting the eyes of a sculpted woman when he came to stand behind her, to check the detailing of her work ... he does this always but now it was irresistible for her feeling him so close, his body heat was tantalizing... she was craving to touch him, hold him and feel him. he wears the best smell in the world. Her hands automatically took a pause as she could feel her bodily systems collapsing, all her plea to her heart to stop being overwhelmed were efforts in vain ... she could feel how her throat felt choked and thought process flustered, the immediate effect of this simple man. He walked away but she felt weak, weak wanting him to come and hold her, will he ever understand his kind of effect on her.
"tum aaj late kyon ho gayi thhi Gauri? Main wait kar raha thha tumhara ... Om asked her casually.
" Hum college mein thhe, ek lecture delay ho gaya thha isiliye... " Gauri replied packing her bag ... just about to leave ...
" how is college? he asked busy arranging the brushes in the rack.
For a moment she was quite confused not able to understand why he wanted to talk to her about her college ... yeah they talked about many things other than work but her college was never a topic. Anyway, she loved to talk to him ...
" Haan college mein sab theek hain ... aur aapko pata hain kal we are celebrating traditional day, hum saree pehnenge! she said excited. He smiled
"Par humme na confusion ho rahi hain, ke hum yellow saree pehne ya blue, aap hi bataaiye ke hum kaunsi saree pehne? she asked rolling her eyes. Okay, she had decided to wear a black saree as her whole girl gang was going to wear black sarees and her question to him was pure intentional and she so wanted him to answer that ... she wanted to dress up for him.
"Yellow suits you more. He said wrapping his canvases. She wanted to do happy dancing.
" Gauri mujhe tumse ek zaruri baat karni hain, please don't feel awkward. He said in a serious tone.
Her heart was in her mouth right. What is he going to say? Is he going to ask her to stop working with him! Hell no! She is mentally prepared to leave him but that is supposed to be after the exhibition not now.
" Dadi is insisting me that I get married. He spoke in a calmer tone.
She shut her eyes tightly and covered her ears with her palms. She knew he was supposed to get married; she did not want an invitation. He walked towards her to holds her hands letting them off her ears and she opened her eyes to look at him.
" Will you marry me Gauri? he asked in such a romantic way.
A part of Gauri went numb and another part of her was short listing their honeymoon destinations. She wanted to ask him many things, made an effort to speak but he put a finger on her lips.
" Tumhe pata hain jabse Dadi ne mujhe kaha ke main shaadi ke liye ladki pasand karu ... main harr ladki ka comparison sirf tumhi se karta rehta hoon... tumhaari aakhein, tumhari baatein, tumhaari harkate ... tumhaari jagah koi nahi le sakta Gauri ... Om confessed. Gauri knew that he likes her and cares for her but hat came her way was totally unexpected.
" I know I am a very difficult person to live with, but main nahi chahta ke tum mujhe shaadi ke liye mana karo ... Par main tumhe force bhi nahi karunga ... just promise me one thing ke tum mujhe chhod ke kabhi nahi jaaogi. Om said cupping her face.
" Kya aap humse pyaar karte hain Omkaraji? she asked... happy tears brimming in her eyes.
" Pata nahi Gauri, Pyaar ek bohot hi intense feeling hain jo main aaj tak samajh nahi paya ... mere pyaar mein hamesha bohot si terms and conditions rahi hain isiliye Ridhima was unhappy, par ab jab main sochta hoon ke mujhe saari zindagi ek ladki ke saath guzarni hain, that girl has to be you ... mujhe aur koi nahi jhel sakta. Both of them chuckled
" Kya aap zindagi bhar humaare saath rehna chahte hain Omkaraji? she wanted more of his confidence.
" Mujhe aadat ho gayi hain tumhaari Gauri, jab tum saath hoti ho aisa lagta hain sab sahi hain, isiliye jab bhi tum late hoti ho ... main restless ho jata hoon. Now she understood that why she faced an Angry Kara even if she was late just by five minutes.
" Please Gauri, Stay with me ... I will never let you be unhappy, grow old with me. He asked desperately not wanting a rejection.
And she forced herself in his protective embrace.
" Omkaraji kya aapke ghar waale maanenge? Humme accept karenge? she asked fearing the consequences of their decisions.
" My Mom loves you Gauri... aur pata hain woh kehti hain ke hum dono ke toh naam bhi ek doosre ke liye bane hain... OMKARA aur GAURI. He held her closest. And she smacked her brain apologizing her shankarji for not trusting her fate...
" Gauri tumse kuch poochna thha... he asked as his thumb caressed her lower lip... she nodded a yes.
" Can I kiss you? He asked with a mischievous smile and her eyes grew wide ...
" Bohot time se soch raha hoon ... how would it feel to kiss you! ... may I? he asked as the distance between their faces was a few millimetres ... she did not realized that when he held her waist and she tiptoed for her height to reach his.
" Par Omkaraji humme aapki daadhi chhubhegi. She said pouting and he smiled at her innocence.
In that moment, neither of them moved. Neither of them breathed. They were together. He leaned and kissed her slowly, reverently and longer quite surprised that this was happening to her... she knew she wanted him and he wanted her for a lifetime. She gave into it, a moment's madness where her body was disobediently his. He melted in her maidenly ardour. It is real, the most honest and truthful moment they have ever shared.
