Kajol on nepotism: It's a debate brought by two personalities who've decided to quote-unquote each other

Kajol reacts to the ongoing nepotism debate.

Nepotism debate has been going on in Bollywood for quite a few months now. The controversy started off in February when Kangana Ranaut appeared on Karan Johar's chat show and called him a flag bearer of nepotism. Though Karan didn't retaliate initially, later he replied to the claim at an event. Since then the war of words hasn't stopped.
Recently, the nepotism debate, which had cooled down a bit, was discussed at IIFA awards by Saif Ali Khan, Varun Dhawan and Karan Johar. While the trio later apologized for taking a dig at Kangana, the debate now refuses to die down.
In an interview with a tabloid, Kajol was asked to comment on nepotism to which she said, "I think it is a debate brought on by two personalities (referring to Karan and Kangana) who have decided to quote- unquote each other. I honestly think it's a moot point because every child wants to grow up and be like their parents."
She added, "Lawyers' children grow up and become lawyers, and doctors' children grow up and become doctors. And sometimes both of their children become actors.
The actress further stated, "It is an open world. It is a free space. Anybody can become anything that they want to become. The people who succeeded in the industry, and by example you can take any name you want, they have succeeded because of their talent and sheer hard work. I don't think all the people who have succeeded have that much to claim over their bloodline."
Do you guys agree to Kajol's statement?

I just wish media don't ask those who are part of nepotism. What do you expect them to answer?! They are the cause.

Exactly! All they are going to do is get defensive. In a way, change can't just start with them, audience also has to wake up and smell the roses. As long as audience is fine with such disparity of opportunities in bollywood and talent being secondary, nothing is going to change.

Well, one is her one time souten and one is her ex BFF. She must be secretly relishing this 😆

On Topic: I will defend her career choices and she is my favorite actress because no one has made me connect with a simple character like her. Rumor is she was one of the people who faced casting couch, IDK about that.

But she is also someone who CHOOSES to work with friends, she gave up Manirathnam, 3 Idiots and oh so many scripts people will kill to work with or have on their resume. An outsider would probably not have a career if they were that choosy.

She is lazy, could not be bothered with fashion (look at Shilpa groomed in Baazigar and look at Kajol that is nepotism at work right there). Yet IMO Kajol's talent alone gave her this 25 year career. The difference is, an outsider does not get to have the CHOICES she had. She quit after DDLJ, will any outsider dare do that and still have a career.? That is nepotism at work and not just her talent. That is what insiders do not get. Kajol is 3rd generation BW dynasty, she will never get it.

Gawd now every actor or actress is asked to comment on this. I am so with Vidya on this.

A private company owner decides to make his naalayak son or daughter the CEO or MD instead of a deserving one or simply give him job instead of a qualified one. Who is there to say anything ? Except for Government bodies, no one has taken 'theka' to the whole society and its welfare to be honest. It's a free world and production houses can launch whoever they want and find fit for profit. Simple !!

Pissed off with this debate.

All you said is very true. I was just watching her interview with Rajeev and Rajeev was listing all these movies she let go on her account of being extremely choosy and lazy. So, yeah. Only privileged have the opportunity and the prime choice of those lucrative roles. That's where they don't seem to get it, it is the lack of equal opportunities and extreme segregation on the basis of privilege that is the problem, nor that their kids want to follow in their footsteps.

@Bold No one said anything to Trump about nepotism when his kids worked for him when he was a businessman. His family business, his kids work for him in high positions, no one can say anything. The minute he became president and his son-in-law and daughter even in they are working with no pay are getting dinged every day for nepotism.

You can ask how this applies to BW as it not government. Because BW is the face of the Indian movie industry and few families cannot have a monopoly. Especially when outsiders are facing casting couches and are being exploited, where even TV actors with an established fan base get crap scripts and bad launches while unproven starkids are given best scripts, big launches and even respected actors praise them unproven (like Tiger was praised by Aamir and Kirti ignored during debut. The nepotism debate should be loud because we as consumers are deprived of the best. Movies are not cheap, our options are sitting out of the movies if we think the product is not worth our money. People want value for their money and that is why more people are doing that which is why we have movies flopping week after week.

Now the media is asking every one on this
But every on will have different answers
It is very hard for an insider to understand
The problems faced by an outsider
Things are a lot more different now
Previously outsiders still used to get good chances
But now it t mostly the insiders who get the good roles
