CHAPTER 1
Shaurya was sitting idle in his room, devoid of light and colour. Apne sath wooh meri zindagi ki roshni aur jeenay ki tamanna bhi le gayi, he thought painfully. He recalled her innocent presence, her non-stop chatter, her constant complaints about him. "How's your day,?", "Did you have food ?", "It's cold outside so wear your sweater?", "Atleast put some light in your room, Shaurya", her irritating but caring rants were no longer audible in his empty house. Oh, I miss her. I hate myself for grieving for a woman who never cared for me, he scolded himself. He smashed the table to channel his agony. Vicky rushed to his brother's room and was relieved to see him safe though not quite sound. Shaurya was much better now. Initial days he had smashed all photgraphs and burned down everything that belonged to his so-called-Bhabhi. Vicky knew very well that still Bhai might have hidden away her possessions safely. "Bhai, please take care of yourself. I cannot see you like this", Vicky was sad. "I am ok , Vicky. Just lost my footing", he quickly tried to act normal. "Bhai, for once listen to me. Come with me. My band is moving to a new location for our new album . You can still manage your business remotely from there. Try to meet new people and places. You need it Bhai. Atleast do it for my sake", Vicky pleaded. "Hmmm, I will think about it ", Shaurya agreed.
Vicky and his team were a vibrant group of young, upcoming musicians. Shaurya had to admit that being with them helped him a little to forget his past and move on. He was always a private person, so he had rented an apartment for Vicky and himself. At first Vicky stayed with him to keep an eye on his depressed brother but as Shaurya picked up the pieces , Vicky went back to his flamboyant ways spending more time with his friends. Though alone, his books and work kept him busy. Occasionally he glanced at the draw where he kept her mangalsutra, a relic which he was unable to let go off. I need it to remind myself. Never, ever again to trust a woman and give away my heart, he told himself.
Vicky tried his maximum set Shaurya on double dates but he refused politely. "Bhai, may be you need to have a one night stand. You know, some fun with no commitments", Vicky suggested. "Hmmm. May be", he smirked at his brother's suggestion. "Bhai for that you need to go out and meet women", Vicky was adamant while Shaurya enjoyed confusing him. But one day, he took his suggestion and went to nearby pub. Music was loud and a fairly good crowd was enjoying on the dance floor. Shaurya relaxed near bar counter enjoying his drink. Here and there, he could catch glimpses of couple making out and getting naughty. It's been so long since he was with a woman. Being man, he craved physical intimacy. "Shaurya please . I beg you , not here like this. I am not comfortable", she pushed him. "Baby, Pati-Patni hain hum. Why so shy?", he reasoned. "It doesn't give us license to make out in public", she was adamant. "Baby, in such parties you will find couples in all dark corners. Men and women who don't even know each other, lost in each other's arms. Be a bit forthcoming, Jaan", he teased her. "Fine, go & enjoy with such girls. Jab mann bhar jaye toh mere pass wapas aana",tears brimmed in her eyes while she walked away. He couldn't suppress his grin at her innocence and naivety, "I was just joking baby". With a shudder he woke from her thoughts. Never again, he repeated in his mind.
"Another one", he heard a voice beside him. Bar attender was skeptical to pour but when she spitted some scandalous abuse on him, he gave in. Shaurya was astonished looking at female figure near him. He couldn't believe she was for real. She drank like a fish, probably on the road of being an alcoholic. She had tomboyish appearance, wore lose shirt and faded jeans. Her hair pulled in a ugly pony tail and her untidy nails needed trimming. All in all, a perfect mess, nothing to entice a man. She raised her eyebrows as he scanned him. "Checking me out, Buddy?", she asked. "You wish", he smirked at her. "Yup, you said it. Cheers to a f**ing wishful life", she raised her glass. "Join the club", he said. "Really, so what's your story man?', she asked in a drunken voice. "We are not that friendly to discuss it ", he avoided her. "Well then let me tell you mine. I recently survived a huge tragedy, only to realise that my fiance is gone, lost my job and above all my divorced parents are back together. My father, that as****e who left me and my mother when I was little girl has found his way back to our sweet home. Isn't it lovely? What's say, Mr...Mr...?", she stammered. "Shaurya Khanna", he said firmly. "Good to meet you, Mr Khanna. I am Mehek Sharma", she extended her hand but he didn't take it. A random creepy guy came behind her, and asked "Wanna dance, baby?". Shaurya knew his intention was more than just dance. She was too intoxicated to even whimper if someone forced himself on her. "She is in no mood to dance, buddy. So stay away", he told him sternly. "And who are you?", that guy asked. "I am her husband. So back off, you Moron", he paid for their drinks and pulled her with him. As they reached his car, he asked, "Tell me your address, I will drop you home". "No way. I am not going back where my mom and my-so-called dad dwells. Thanks for acting as my knight back in there. You can leave me here, Mr Khanna. I will manage", she told him. She was unable even to stand properly and he could imagine a thousand things that could go wrong if he leaves her there. "Fine, but you are coming with me", he pushed her into his car and drove away.
She was half asleep and he was glad to escape her tirade. When he parked his car, he found her fast asleep. He carried her till his apartment. As he opened the door, he send a silent prayer of thanks that Vicky chose to stay with his friends tonight too. He placed her gently on his bed and was about to withdraw when she opened her eyes and pulled him by his collar. "Don't leave, stay with me", she begged and caressed his face. "Mehek, you are drunk. You don't know what you are doing. So take rest now. We will talk in the morning", he advised her, trying hard to hide reactions of his treacherous body. "I am much sober now, Shaurya. I need to be with someone tonight. Please, please I beg you", she pleaded. He was unable to take his eyes off her. She snaked her arms around his neck to pull him down for gentle kiss. His brain screamed to restrain himself but his flesh was weak and hungry. He knew he was fighting a losing battle and yielded to the temptation. May be just once, his mind appeased him while he lost himself in Mehek
