In a world where a celebrity's life is under constant scrutiny, the topic of nepotism has divided the industry. It all started when Kangana Ranaut touted Karan Johar as the 'Flagbearer of Nepotism' on his show Koffee With Karan. From then it has been a heated back and forth argument about the pros and cons of nepotism.
Taking a new turn at the IIFA Awards 2017, Karan along with Saif Ali Khan and Varun Dhawan performed a 'Down with Nepotism' skit that did not go down to well with social media. Flack was given to all three involved. Varun was the first to apologise followed by Karan and Saif.
However, in an open letter to a leading daily, Saif got his point across that the skit was meant as a joke and nothing else. In the letter, Saif revealed that he personally sought an apology from his Rangoon co-star.
Saif said, "I realised at some point, that it might have offended Kangana (Ranaut). I called her and apologised personally. That should be the end of it. Everybody needs to take a chill pill and back off."
The actor added, "I apologised to Kangana, so I don't owe anybody else an explanation. The issue is over."
One wonders how that conversation went!
In an earlier interview with a leading news portal, Saif had said, "To me, at IIFA it was just a joke and nothing more to be read into. But now I feel had we given it more thought, we could've really finished this ongoing public discourse on nepotism more decisively."
