Abhijeet woke up very late. The day before was very tiring as they had to catch prevent an insane suicide bomber from blowing up himself and a building at 6:48PM.
His phone rang. It was Daya.
Abhijeet picked up the phone and said "Hello" but his voice was hoarse, all that came our was a croak.
Daya: Hello...sir??
Abhijeet: H..heeloo...Ddaayya
Daya: Sir, kya hua?
Abhijeet left the phone and decided to drink some water.
Daya: Abhijeet sir??
Abhijeet: He..lloo..
Daya: Kya hua?
Abhijeet: Kuch nahi..
Realises that there's no point trying to talk and cuts the call.
He sends an SMS to Daya. 'Sore throat, because of all the shouting I did yesterday. Can't speak. see you in the bureau'.
Abhijeet went to freshen himself up and when he returned, he heard the bell ring. It was Daya.
Daya: Hello sir.
Abhijeet (with great difficulty): arey 😃 Tum yahan?
Daya: Toh, mujhe yahan nahi aana chahiye?
Abhijeet shows with action...'nahi, aisi koi baat nahi hai, baitho'.
Daya: Aapke gale ko kya hua?
Abhijeet(barely a whisper): Woh, kal...uss pagal aadmi se chilla chillakar baat karna pada na, isliye...

Daya: Sir, yeh lijiye main syrup lekar aaya hoon.
Abhijeet (whispers): Arey rehne do na...main adrak chai pee loonga.
Daya: Nahi sir, aaj aapka birthday hai...aise kaise chalega? (and gives Abhijeet the syrup)
Abhijeet: 😲 Mera birthday? Mujhe toh yaad bhi nahi tha.
Daya: Haan sir, happy birthday.(gives a shake hand) Aur happy anniversary. Do saal ho gaye CID mein waapas aakar.
Abhijeet: Haan, do saal...pata hi nahi chala...
Abhijeet went into flashback...2 years back he was standing at the bridge where he had been left by the kidnappers, when ACP and Daya came looking for him. He didn't realise he had completed 2 successful years in CID after he lost his memory. Time had flown.
Abhijeet(gets up): Main breakfast banaata hoon.
Daya: Nahi sir, aaj aap mat banaiyye. Freddie hum sab ke liye breakfast laa raha hai. Bhabhiji bana rahi hai.
Abhijeet, who was in no mood to cook got up and said 'theek hai, main ready hoke aata hoon'.
Abhijeetwent in to get ready. He opened his wardrobe and looks at his badge which read 'senior inspector'.
He watched Daya reading a paper in the hall. He had been with him these 2 years, treating him like a senior, though he (Abhijeet) had lost 2 precious years in CID. He had joined CID 2 years before Daya, but since he was away for 2 years, technically they should have been of the same rank. ACP had however, recommended a senior post for Abhijeet. Daya had never complained. Any other guy in his place would have had his ego hurt.
Abhijeet was already feeling better after he drank the syrup. He got dressed and went back to the hall.
Daya: Chaliye sir.
Abhijeet: Daya, ek request.
Daya: Kya hai sir?
Abhijeet: Mujhe 'sir' aur 'aap' mat kaho.
Daya: Kyon sir, achanak?
Abhijeet: Bas aise hi...main 2 saal CID mein nahi tha. ACP sir ne phir bhi mujhe promotion dilvaya. Lekin hum dono jaante hain ki humara experience equal hai.
Daya: Sir, aaj se sab kyon keh rahe hain?
Abhijeet: Bas, agar meri khushi chahte ho, toh aaj se mujhe Abhijeet hi kaho. Senior nahi, dost samjho mujhe.
Daya: Theek hai sir.
Abhijeet: phir se sir. 😒
Daya: Theek hai...Abhijeet. Ajeeb lag raha hai..thoda time lagega.
Abhijeet: Aur haan...thanks.
Daya: Agar aap (sorry tum) chahte ho ki main tumhe Abhijeet kahoon toh yeh thanks wanks mat kehna.
Abhijeet: hmmm...😃
Daya: Happy birthday Abhijeet. (and gives another handshake)
