Byomkesh Bakshi, Bobby Jasoos and now Jagga Jasoos. Forget Ranbir even talented people like Vidya Balan and SSR couldn't save this genre. Bollywood lacks horribly in their execution and gripping story line because they try to dilute it with mirch masala.
Agree?

this line doesn't make much sense to me

ranbir is if not more is as talented as them for sure

and imo he is way more talented that those two whose example you mentioned

Byomkesh Bakshy was well executed , But it still failed.I loved the film, not a great fan of SSR but it was his best according to me.

Haven't seen the other 2 so cant comment about that.

Sushant acted really well in that movie and I remember he said it himself that it was his most difficult role ever. As for Vidya vs Ranbir I have to disagree because Vidya's acting is on whole another level that is why even without the conventional stereotype of a bollywood actress she has managed to do so well in her movies. I only liked Ranbir in Barfi I dont consider him a realiable actor.

But Detective Byomkesh Bakshi was nicely executed na.. It's one of the most criminally underrated movies ever.

I absolutely loved and enjoyed watching DBB though, felt it was nicely directed or 'put together' despite the complex plot.. I was hoping for a sequel. :(

I enjoyed it as well as I am quite a huge mystery bug, I even love conspiracy movies and TV shows but still dont think the wider audience has any love for such genre unlike the chinese movies who are a huge sucker for such movies.

1. Khiladi - Hit

2. Baazigar - Super Hit

3. Ghajini - Blockbuster

4. Soldier - Super Hit

5. Race - Hit

6. Race 2 - Semi-Hit

7. 36 China Town - Semi-Hit

8. Wanted - HIt

9. Kick - Blockbuster

10. Don Series

11. Mohra - Blockbuster

All these films have SUSPENSE/MYSTERY & Detective angle in them... if presented well, success is there.

Some might find above films not DETECTIVE Genre, but that kind of Genre doesn't exist, if film has elements, it is same.

I think DBB had to be a little less complicated in the 2nd half ...the 1st half was very gripping. I remember people beside me in the hall saying " kya ho raha hai...samajh nahi aa raha" Detective films require utmost attention, which I feel many cine goers lack.

Yeah but these are not just entirely detective movies it is also like action adventure. We could say Black Friday or Raman Raghav could fall into such genre but simply speaking there is not a whole lot movies like that. Another genre is serial killer movies or zombie movies. There is no takers in bollywood but they do so well in Hollywood.
