These days there are a lot of debates and discussion regarding the importance of a man in a woman's life. There are several articles, researches and talks about how women are no longer dependent on men; that she can pay her own bills, take care of her household, cook her own meal, buy her own stuff and even protect herself.
In fact evidences suggest that it is possible now more than ever to be an independent, empowered, and successful woman in this world and that you don't need a man for it. In today's time and age women are looking for men who acknowledge her worth. She longs for a man who respects, understands and cherishes her; and love of course is an added bonus. But regardless of whether a woman is independent and completely capable of looking after herself or she is dependent on a man; majority of the women out there secretly and at times not so secretly waits for her knight in shining armour' and wishes/hopes that he would come into her life one day.
Our Character of the Week is a man who has redefined the phrase knight in shining armour' and given it a whole new meaning. I am sure that all those who watch Colors popular show Shakti Astitva Ke Ehsaas Ki, will agree with me when I say that Harman Singh (Vivian Dsena) is pure "Husband Goals. These days when most of our prime time series heroes fall in the angry young man' category, Harman comes across as a breath of fresh air, and his love for Soumya makes you sigh with contentment as well as wish for a life partner like him.
When Harman came to know that Soumya is a transgender his whole world came to a standstill just like Soumya's did who was always kept in dark with regard to her reality. But when Harman realized that he is truly, deeply and irrevocably in love with Soumya, he was able to not only overlook that aspect of her life that others believed to be a flaw, and accept Soumya wholeheartedly for who she was; but it also gave Soumya the strength to embrace her true identity and believe that even she is worthy of love. Since then Harman's love for Soumya has only increased with every passing day, and this week we saw a new facet of that love.
Last week Harman witnessed the heartless and gruesome murder of a Kinnar. The incident left a very deep-seated impact on his mind, and ever since he has been trying to do everything in his power to keep the most precious person in his life safe. What happened to that Kinnar has forced Harman to take the decision of leaving his hometown with Soumya because he feels that way he'll be able to protect her better. The fear of losing Soumya the love of his life...his wife, the fear of her meeting with the same fate as the Kinnar who died in his arms; and numerous other unsettling and horrifying thoughts has made the young lad fearful.
Following this the viewers saw Harman forbid Soumya from leaving the house, he is shown doubtful of people's sudden love and acceptance of Soumya (Remember the incident with Maninder Singh), does not take Soumya to the hospital even when she was poisoned, and also breaks Soumya's heart by refusing to reveal the truth about her to the guests who had come for his birthday. While others including Soumya have concluded this as Harman's unwillingness in the society coming to know about Soumya's reality, and the embarrassment that follows; the truth is anything but that. What has been perceived as weak love (Harman's) by Preeto, Harak Singh and everybody who is against Harman-Soumya's relationship in reality can be termed as the peak of Harman's love for his wife; the strength and depth of which knows no bounds.
This is a husband who went against his own family and the society to support his wife. Harman has fought with people, circumstances and even fate to protect Soumya; and we know he will do so every time if the occasion arises. Harman accepted Soumya's reality a really long time ago. He loves, cherishes and respects her unconditionally regardless of it; and honors the relationship they share. He has no qualms accepting the same before the world; and would have if such an incident (Read- Kinnar's death and aftermaths) hadn't taken place. But Harman is not delusional. Though he has faith in his love, and their relationship; he does not trust the people and society which can kill a person just because he/she is a Kinnar. Harman is not ready to lose Soumya, because it is a loss he will never be able to overcome. Though he is protecting Soumya, Harman is also shielding his own heart from the pain it will have to endure if he ever had to live without his love. In a way Harman is being selfish, and sometimes it is OK to be selfish in love.
Harman's every scene this week spoke volumes of his love. It shone radiantly in his every emotion, his every expression, his body language, his words and actions. Soumya knows that she is lucky to have a life-partner like Harman, but she is yet to truly understand Harman's worth and the depth of his love. Koi nahi...jald hi woh bhi patha chalega.
As for Vivian Dsena Mash'Allah the guy is a brilliant performer, and Shakti -Astitva Ke Ehsaas Ki has given the actor a rather diverse platform to showcase his acting skills, and Vivian has made full use of the same. Take a bow Vivian, watching you essay the role of Harman is a treat!!!
