Hey guys! I'm back from my trip, finally. I kinda had trouble writing this since I sort of lost the flow of the story during my break, so I'm keeping this one short just to get started somewhere. Hope you guys like it and do let me know what you think, if possible :)
Annika sat frozen, her arms around his neck and her heart in her mouth. Had she heard him right? Did he just...
Did he just say he was in love with her?
No, he couldn't possibly have said that. Maybe she had heard him wrong. Maybe he had said he loved how she looked, or he loved the weather, or maybe he loved this beautiful setting. But he couldn't possibly love her, could he? Shivaay Singh Oberoi didn't even believe in love. Annika knew he liked her. He was attracted to her in a way he had never been attracted to anyone before but love was a step too far ahead for him, wasn't it?
No, she had heard him wrong.
While her brain was filled with these frantic thoughts, she didn't realize that everything around them had become eerily quiet. They were still in the same position, with her sitting right on his lap and his arms tight around her waist. He was staring at her expectantly, his eyes lighted up and waiting earnestly for her reply after this massive confession. Annika however only continued to stare at a spot on his forehead, her mind a complete mess as she tried to figure out what he had just said. After a while, Shivaay couldn't take the suspense anymore. Sighing, he placed a soft kiss on her forehead, bringing her out of her reverie.
"It's okay," he whispered, his voice sounding a bit wounded. "You don't have to say anything back. Just take your time, alright?"
That got Annika even more confused. Did this mean she had heard him right all along?
"Could you repeat what you just said?" Annika asked timidly.
"I said that you don't have to say- "
"No, before that."
Shivaay furrowed his brows.
"That I am in love with you?"
Oh God.
She had indeed heard him right.
Shivaay Singh Oberoi was in love with her.
Eyes widened, Annika stared at him for a solid minute, searching his face for a hint of mischief. There was none. He was looking at her with those beautiful deep blue eyes that just shone with love. Annika's eyes filled up with tears at that, making Shivaay cup her face hurriedly.
"What's wrong, baby?" He asked her concernedly, his face a sincere mask of worry.
Shaking her head, Annika flung her arms around him again, and buried her face in the crook of his neck, inhaling that masculine, sexy scent of his. She had a full-blown smile on her face, as her heart did frivolous somersaults in her chest.
Shivaay was beyond confused at this behaviour. Telling Annika he loved her hadn't been part of the plan, but as soon as the words had left his lips, he had felt lighter than ever. And he hadn't lied- not at all. He, Shivaay Singh Oberoi, was madly and desperately in love with this woman on his lap. He, who had never believed in love, now couldn't imagine his life without her. His heart beat only for her.
So it was natural that when he had presented his heart to her on a platter, her silence had surprised as well as scared him. What would he do if she rejected him, if she picked up his heart from the platter only to throw it away mercilessly? Shivaay shuddered at the thought. She was now an integral part of his survival and just the thought of her ever leaving him or not feeling the same was unbearable. As he saw her eyes fill up with tears, his heart started beating faster than it had been, if possible. Had he said something wrong? Was it too soon? Will it all end right now?
But then she wounded her arms around him and he sighed in relief. Atleast she hadn't walked away. Atleast she hadn't laughed at his face, at his stupidity. Shivaay's hold became tighter still.
After a while, Annika removed her face from his neck. The smile had not left her face and the tears in her eyes had now been replaced with something else- playfulness.
"So tell me," She started, while fiddling with the collar of his shirt, "when did my tadibaaz Billuji become so romantic?"
Shivaay smirked. The thought that she hadn't said she loved him too tugged at the back of his head, but he ignored it.
"Uh-huh, not just romantic. You could say that he has become an Ishqbaaz."
Annika beamed at that. Slowly, she leaned it towards his lips. Brushing their lower lips together, she murmured,
"Do you really love me, Shivaay?"
Shivaay pulled away slightly to look at her admiringly.
"Of course I do. Koi shak?"
Annika shook her head frantically, making Shivaay laugh at her cute antics. He then leaned in to kiss her again, but she pulled away at the last minute.
"What?" Shivaay asked with a naughty expression. "Let me show exactly how much I love you."
Annika smacked his arm playfully, but soon her expression turned serious.
"I don't know what to say." She whispered in a low voice.
"To what, baby?"
"To your... confession of love."
Shivaay looked at her, a hurt expression on his face. His heart sank low. So she didn't love him back. Gulping down the lump in his throat, he somehow managed to speak.
"I told you, it's okay," he whispered, tucking a strand of hair behind her hair and caressing her cheek. "You can take your time in deciding, love. I'm right here."
Annika cupped his cheeks in her hand and made him look into her eyes.
"There's nothing to decide, Shivaay." She said.
It was hard for Shivaay to swallow the lump this time.
"What do you mean?" He asked, his voice almost breaking at the end.
This time, Annika caressed his cheeks lovingly. Placing a kiss on his nose, she said,
"What I mean is, there's nothing to decide. I'm in love with you too. Madly in love. I just don't know what to say to make you understand just how much you mean to me, Shivaay. I don't think words will ever do justice to what I feel for you."
Saying this, she rested her forehead against his. Shivaay, who had been holding his breath all this while, enveloped her in a tight hug and murmured a 'Thank God' under his breath. His whole life that had felt like it would come crashing down a few minutes ago, was now filled with so much happiness that he felt his heart would just burst open. He held her tightly for a long, long time. Basking in this new bliss of being in love, they sat there in the open air, their clothes smeared with sand. When they did pull away, it was to connect themselves more intimately by leaning in for a long, warm kiss.
