The whole mansion had been decked up like a newly wedded bride. And why wouldn't it be so? After all, today Omkara and Gauri would be renewing their wedding vows on their first wedding anniversary. More like, getting married again. It had been on Daadi's insistence that they get married again because none of the family members were present to witness their wedding when they had gotten married last year.
And, of all people, Omkara couldn't be happier. He may have had gotten married to Gauri in a rush just to save her from Kaali Thakur, but over the past one year, Omkara had succumbed to her warmth, genuineness, silliness and her naivety. Presently, Omkara looked at himself in the mirror and smiled goofily at his reflection. A year back, if someone told him that he would fall head over heels in love with Gauri Kumari Sharma, he would've probably smacked the person in the face, loosening a few bone joints as well; such was his hatred for her. However, over time, he admitted to himself, that she had wrapped him around her little finger. And his perception of her changed the day the true colours of his Bua Maa came to light. He shuddered, thinking about how Gauri had risked her life to protect him from his Bua Maa's revengeful deed of almost killing him. Gauri had literally taken the bullet for him, right in her chest. It had been the worst nightmare ever for him. It had taken months together for her to get back to her bubbly self.
"Om..." Shivaay's voice at the door, broke his trail of thoughts, "There was a courier for you from the jewellery store" he said as he handed over the little box to Omkara, who only nodded with a smile at Shivaay. Omkara placed the box on the dresser table and picked up the shawl of his golden shervani. Shivaay pinned the shawl against Omkara's chest, with a brooch studded with diamonds and a single cut ruby. It had been Gauri's choice, and Omkara took great pride wearing it on their special day. "I'm so proud of you Om" Shivaay spoke when he saw Omkara's eyes light up at the sight of a simple piece of jewellery. "Ohhooo" Rudra interrupted his two brothers, "Muskaan toh dekho dulhe raja ki, aankhon ki chamak toh dekho. Haaye haaye, itna toh Gauri bhabhi bhi nahi Sharma rahi hai jitne laal apne Omkara ke gaal ho gaye hain"
"Tu Gauri se milke aa raha hai?" Omkara asked with a raised brow. Rudra sighed dramatically, "haan, aur bhabhi ekdum pari lag rahi hai. O, aap dekhoge toh dekhte reh jaoge" Omkara looked at his two brothers, thinking of an escape plan, and after picking up the tiny jewellery box he received minutes back, took a step towards the door, only to be stopped by Anika. "Kahan jaa rahe ho aap, itne harharaike?" she asked, imitating Gauri, to which his two brothers howled with laughter. Omkara glared at Rudra and Shivaay, then turning towards Anika he said, "Bhabhi, I need to meet Gauri. Mujhe usko kuch dena hai" Rudra cleared his throat and in a teasing tone said, "O, jo kuch bhi dena hai, woh toh shadi ke rasam ke baad de sakte ho. You cannot see the bride now. Poori raat hai tumhare paas; koi disturb nahi karega tumhe tumhari suhaagraat pe." Omkara blushed furiously at that, while Anika and Shivaay chuckled, knowing what Rudra implied.
"Kyun pareshan kar rahe ho mere bacche ko?" Daadi spoke, as she and Jhanvi entered the room. "Arrey Daadi," Rudra ran to her and hugged her sideways, "Chaahe toh maar lagaa lo, par hamara Omkara kya sahi chamak raha hai na? Dekho toh, tamaatar ki tarah laal ho gaya hai " Baat toh tune sahi ki, Rudra Daadi quipped and Jhanvi stepped ahead to place a black mark behind his ear, "Kisi ki nazar na lage mere Omkara ko" Everyone chorused an "Awww and Om rolled his eyes. "Ghar mein koi aur bhi bacha ho toh unko bhi yahin pe bula lo. Family meeting karao abhi, mere kamre mein" Everyone giggled as they knew Omkara was starting to get affected by the teasing going on there. "Chalo", Jhanvi spoke up favouring her son, "Hum sab chalte hain, aur hamare dulhe ko thodi dair akele chodthe hain. Om, tum time pe ready ho jao. Muhurat hone par Shivaay aur Rudra tujhe neeche leke jaayenge" Omkara nodded and breathed a sigh of relief as everyone left the room. He then looked at the tiny box in his hand. Smiling to himself, he left the room and made his way towards the guest room where Gauri was getting ready.
Gauri, in the guest room, kept fidgeting with the heavy kundan bangles that her mother-in-law made her wear a few minutes back. After blessing her and thanking her for coming into her Son's life, Jhanvi had kissed her on her forehead and upon Gauri's request, left her to be alone for some time. Gauri felt her heart grow heavy. Ever since she had entered the Oberoi Mansion, she felt like she had found bliss. Not once did anyone question her marriage to Omkara when the bomb was dropped on the whole family by introducing her as Omkara's wife. They accepted her with open arms, and she too grew fondly attached to them. There were even times when the family took Gauri's side and reprimanded Omkara. She hadn't received so much of love from her own family; in fact, she was sold to Kaali Thakur by her own uncle and aunt, while her mother had no say in it. Her eyes grew moist as she thought of her mother. The whole Oberoi family was so supportive and loving when they learnt that Gauri's mother was terminally ill. And, a few months back, when she passed away after a long struggle, Omkara had fulfilled all responsibilities that a son was to undertake. Not only did he pay the final respects and complete the rituals, he stood by Gauri all the while and became her pillar of strength.
Presently, Gauri gasped when the lights in the Oberoi Mansion went off. Wait, why would the lights go off in a house where the wedding was to take place. At that very moment, she heard the room door click open as someone entered the room. She did not have to ask who it was; her heart recognised him while her heartbeat quickened. "Aap yahan? Shadi se pehle dulhan ko dekhna mana hai. Itna bhi nahi pata aapko?" She could tell, even though it was pitch dark around them that he was grinning at her words. Only when she felt his warm breath on her cheek did she realise the proximity between them. "Omkara ji..." she whispered his name as she felt his fingers touch hers. His fingers ran up her forearm, over her bangles and gently skimmed over the soft skin of her waist.
Omkara could tell she was blushing and her heaved breathing was just an evidence of the same. Honestly, it boosted his ego that she was so responsive to his touch. It was true that he and Gauri hadn't consummated their marriage yet, even though he managed to teach her in private a few tricks up his sleeve that left her breathless and red-faced afterward. "Gauri kumara Sharma abhi se itna sharmayegi, toh baad mein, suhaagraat pe kya hoga? he whispered in a husky whisper, earning a smack on his arm. "Kk.. kaisi baat kar rahe hain? Aapko... sharam nahi aati?" she stuttered and he chuckled. He held her arms, and gently turned her around, so that her back was against his chest. His fingers became a means for him to see in the dark, and he placed a feathery kiss on the nape of her neck whilst gripping her arms. She sighed at the feel of his lips and the warmth of his breath and leaned against him.
It was then that she felt something cold against the skin of her waist, and then felt his warm fingers along it. She took a deep breath when she realised what it was. "Yeh kamarbandh main tumhare liye leke aaya tha" he spoke softly into her ears. Gently, he hooked the chain round her waist and placed his hands on the either side of her hips. Just then, the lights turned on, and for a moment, he heard the entire household downstairs, cheer when the electricity was back. It was then that he looked into the mirror in front of them. Gauri was dressed in a beautiful gold and red lehenga and her face was covered by a matching netted dupatta. Gauri looked at Omkara from under her dupatta in the mirror and smiled when she saw the brooch glimmering under the lights of the room. It was then she noticed the waist chain that he gifted her. It was a simple gold chain with shimmering stones- diamonds on it. However, that was not what drew Omkara's attention. She felt his finger run over a scar on her stomach, an old scar. "Yeh...?" he frowned, wondering what it was. "Wohh..." she stammered and cleared her throat, "yaad hai, Svetlana ko pakadne ke liye, humne ek natak kiya tha. Aur woh nakli churi ki jagah asli churi rakh di gayi jisse aapne galti se chulbul ko..." She left the rest of the sentence unsaid.
She was taken by surprise when she looked at him, kneeling down on the floor, and he gently kissed the scar. "I'm sorry, Gauri. Maine tum pe hamesha gussa kiya, Kitna daanta, bina baat ke tum ko kitna kuch suna diya, tumhe kitni pareshani uthani padi mere liye. Aur toh aur, kitna kuch saaha hai tumne mere kaaran. Jitni baar tumse maafi maangu, utna kam hai, phir bhi tumne uff tak nahi kiya? Tum itni acchi kyun ho, Gauri?" He spoke in a single breath, as he hugged her waist. She ran her fingers through his open hair; she loved doing that to her jatadhaari chironta.
"Kyunki hum aapse beyhadh pyar karte hain, Omkara ji. Karte the, aur karte rahenge" she said in a meek voice. He looked up at her, trying to see her face in vain, and trying to read her emotions in her eyes which were covered with the veil. He cupped her face, under the veil and her body tensed up. "Aap mera chehra nahi dekh sakte. Accha shagun nahi hota knowing that he was pulling her close. He did not say a word, but gently drew her closer, and kissed her lips softly, through her veil. There was nothing passionate or rushed about it. It was a gentle kiss, as if silently making a promise and conveying his love to her.
He pulled away as he felt her lips widen in a smile and smirked as he said, "I'm not going to be this patient later at night" He rightly imagined her eyes widen, as he continued, "Aaj toh palang tod pyar karunga tumse, raat bhar" to which he laughed as she hid her face in his chest. Just then, the door opened and they heard Anika, Shivaay and Rudra walk in. Shivaay grinned, "Lo, Humne kahan kahan nahi dhoonda aur Omkara yahan pe nikla." Rudra rolled his eyes, "What's this O? Another two hours and then she's all yours. Itna bhi intezaar nahi hota?" Shivaay whacked Rudra's arm, "Samjha kar, Rudra. Omkara ab Ishqbaaz ban gaya hai, Aur Ishqbaazi mein intezaar hote nahi hota. Right Om?" Omkara laughed and agreed. He looked at Gauri, who only looked at the floor. He wished for these two hours to pas quickly so that he could finally spend some lone moments with her, and as if reading his mind, Gauri looked up at him and smiled shyly. "Chalo, pandit ji bula rahe hain" Rudra said to Omkara. "See you soon, Mrs. Gauri Kumari Sharma Singh Oberoi" Omkara looked behind his back and left the room with Anika and Gauri grinning at each other.
