I don't think so. Otherwise all the smokers would also be doing drugs and drinking ain't it.

There was a workshop regarding this. There is always a possibility of turning to drinking drugs in the case of kids if guidences are not given. Close guidence and proper advice is necessary. Expelling from the school is not the right way. If it is like that, a great majority of boys who were copying his father/uncle/brother studying in Govt./Aided schools may have been expelled, that is not a solution. The parents/guardians are guilty and they have to be punished.

I think she meant drinking (alcohol) and drugs separately, not drinking drugs as you copied.😆

Anyway, I was not speaking about expulsion from school here, just pointed out that smoking doesn't lead to drinking or doing drugs. Maybe in some cases I dunno, but not generally.😛

Do what one would do with an adult. Send them to rehab. 'cause adult or child, they're still addicted if they can't stop. I wouldn't force the kid, regardless of this being a parental decision, but make sure they come to the realization that this is not good for them and they need help. Help them to understand and let them make the decision. Chances are, they'll make the right choice.

Just expelling the kid without proper tutelage on the subject is not only unbeneficial to the child but also to everyone else around the kid.

Every time they get caught smoking or drinking , as a punishment send them to do some volunteer work at the lung and liver oncology ward of a hospital. Let them spend some time with ex-smokers on their way out and perhaps they can knock some sense into their heads. 😊

This can begin from the school itself. I remember we did an experiment where we inserted cottonwool in an empty dishwashing liquid bottle and slowly ignited the cottonwool. We were shown how much damage to our lung the smoking does just after one week. We were shown slides and pics. of the smokers' lungs and how addictive ciggies are now-a-days as compared to when our forefathers smoked.

Sometimes kids do this out of peer pressure and it takes a lot of patience and understanding on the part of the parent. Help and counselling is always available for parents and kids in these situations.

The hardest part is if a parent is smoking and drinking........ then how do you go explaining to a kid that it is bad 😕 I have seen kids loath these things if they see the change in behaviour of a parent at home.

In the end its all about patience and understanding a child and giving them the best help and support.

There is a usage "Beedi/Cigratte Kudikkuka= Drinking" in some part of Kerala.

In my college days there are gangs sitting in shades of trees planted in Campus and smoking cigerettes/beedies partially stuffed with some thing called Ganga/Opium. College authorities tried their best to avoid this in the campus but these students are Dadas of political parties. They attract young children of pre-degree and forcefully make them smoke.I know a lot of the victioms some of them were brilliant in studies.

Most of teen age girls get atracted to this(smoking, drinking andusage of drugs) through their lovers/peers in hostel. Punishment is not a good way to help them out of it. Careful advice with love and affection can help them.
