None of the two have earned the success of their careers on merit.

I don't think anyone expected a lot from Kriti and Sushant in the beginning but they do have a lot riding on them. They've become popular with time and people are looking forward to watching a fresh couple on screen. Almost no one from Sushant and Kriti's current contemporaries have spoken about their film or said anything about it. I think only Varun said the film looks cool. I wouldn't put past all the nepokids feeling a little insecure that two outsiders are actually making a name for themselves without any big shot backing them.
