Bollywood with the blockbuster Om Shanti
Om, directed by Farah Khan in 2007. Now
the film has a Japanese version but not in
the form of a film but a Japanese Broadway
musical, Oomu Shanti Oomu - Koisuru
Rinne.
The musical put together by the all-female
troupe Takarazuka Revue, is directed by
Koyanagi Naoko and stars Kurenai Yuzuro
in the role of Shah Rukh Khan, Kisaka Airi as
Shantipriya/Sandhya aka Deepika Padukone
and Rei Makoto as Mukesh Mike' Mehra aka
Arjun Rampal. The play that was previously
featured at the Tokyo International Forum
in January will now return in July.
Readers may recall that Om Shanti Om
released in Japan in 2012 and reportedly
the film continues to run in a few theatres
even today.
In fact, thrilled about the news, Farah Khan
will be flying to Japan in July to watch the
play unfold. Talking about the same, the
choreographer turned filmmaker revealed
that she received an invite from the troupe
for their opening night and that they
wanted her to speak to the audience on
July 22.
Farah also added that the team had flown
to India and even jammed with her. She
mentioned that they were fascinated with
the costumes and hence she even took
them to the designers where they bought
lots of fabric for their play. She further also
maintained that she is eagerly looking
forward to see her film in the form of a
play.
