We all know , here any adult can refuse medical treatment. It also include psychiatric treatment .

I remember somedays back I watched one program regarding psycho killers. There was a story of a teenager who killed his mother. His father was interviewd he told , that his son was mentally ill and was admitted to hospital. On his discharge from there he stoped taking his medications . as a result his symptoms returned and that was when he started threatening his mother.. His father contacted police and health care people. However because his son was 18- 19 years old so as an adult he could refuse treatment. So no one helped him and eventually he killed his mother.

My question is .. in such situation , What should be the best way to deal such people .

Problem is.. in alot many cases , till these people take their medications etc they remain somewhat under control and can behave like anyother normal person. Now in such situation if they refuse further treatment , should their consent be valid just like any other person?

If they refuse medication respect their decision, chain them up and throw them in an asylum cell and maybe as an added bonus, give an electric shock or two everyday. Who knows maybe he'll miraculously change his mind about medication. 😃

😆😆😆 loved that emoticon u used in the end😆 kitney cool ho tum souro😆

coming back to topic, yeah, have seen such cases. in andrea yeates case also, the root cause of her mental condition was not taking the meds. resulted in 5 lives nipped off in the bud. i feel the treatment shd be mandatory for such patients. if it can't be made mandatory due to human rights etc, then families should weigh the pros and cons and see whether they want to risk other members' lives/safety by keeping such member at home.

frankly speaking, don't know what exactly one can do other than trying to talk some sense in to that person. just imagine one of your child has such problem and not taking the meds, how can u turn ur child out yaar. kehna aasaan hai per karna mushkil. tough call here i think. 😕

👏👏 Bravo. Wah kya sidha saadha prescripton likha hain. Maan gaye Dr. souro. I particularly loved the oxymoron. The empathetic "respect their decision" and then in the same breath the antipathetic "chain them.....electric shock or two every day." Please give me your address I need to send some new patients your way😉

Well they are free to do as they please as long as they are in no danger to society. When they do fit the psychopath bill who needs medicals for stability - then they have a choice.

a) Get out of jail card - take your meds regularly and behave yourself
b) Lock Up - cos without meds you are a wild animal and wild animals do not live with people they be locked up.

We should let them have the right to refuse the treatment as long as they are adults

There might be a couple of physco killers who might kill someone.

But if you take the control out of the hands of adults of whether or not to take medication for whatever reason and giving that control to a federal authority you are losing your basic right, that loss of a basic right is far more a danger than a couple of physioctic killers

Woh toh hum hai...😳

I still think they should be jailed if they're suffering from a condition which if not controlled can prove harmful for others.😊

There was a case during Xmas break when this teen and his girlfriend killed his parents.

If they refuse treatments they should be locked up!!!! 😡 They are a danger to society. At least here they wont be set free.

As far as I know, under the American Hospital Association's Patient Bill of Rights, the patient may refuse treatment and be allowed to refuse treatment only if the patient is of legal age AND of sound mind. If we're taking a psycho killer, then in legal terms, he is not of sound mind. Furthermore, if he was being treated at a hospital for his mental illness and the hospital records indicate that he was clearly not of sound mind, then he has no right to refuse medical treatment. His opinion would not matter. The right to refuse medical treatment would fall upon his primary caregivers, in this case, his parents. And if the father DID want him to get treated for his mental condition, then he should have been treated by the health care givers. Something in the story just doesnt add up. Sounds to me like there's a lot more that the hospital or the family isnt letting the public in on.

And to answer your question, the right to refuse medical treatment is only valid if it comes from someone who is of legal age, and of sound mind. If someone isnt of sound mind (and proven not to be of sound mind), then no, their refusal should not be valid.

Refusing treatment amounts to commiting suicide.. Americans should do what they do the best... pass a law mandating medical treatment or legalize homicide.... 😊

Sadly sound mind hypothesis will not work since doctors are not efficient witht their law books as the lawyers are with the medical books and who would rip apart their diagnosis....
