I really need to know

I was reading a few posts and also while writing a post, I felt confused about one thing.

We all know that Maya beats herself up and Arjun does not beat her.
However his dialogue that "maine Maya pe kabhi haath nahi uthaya " is questionable as he had grabbed her by her neck saying "jab saans aana band hoti hai toh aankhon ke saamne andhera chaa jaata hai"
No I am not saying he beats her, he surely has not thrashed her around cruelly, but has manhandled her then and now out of frustration, so his dialogue can be taken as 80% true in that regard.

But I have a different question. As I said Maya beats herself up not Arjun.
All I wanted to ask was , take a hypothetical situation where Maya does not mercilessly thrashes herself with the belt. Then what would have Arjun done?
He said something like "haath tod doonga " so would he do that or not?

A part of me feel that he would have done so, as to avoid the scenario Maya decided to beat herself so that Arjun doesn't do that to her.
Basically "maine kabhi Maya pe haath nahi uthaya, Maya khudko maarti hai toh mujhe maarne ki zarurat hi nahi padi "

But the other part says, maybe he wouldn't have done that, as he keeps on saying that "maine Maya pe kabhi haath nahi uthaya " , but as I said earlier, this dialogue isn't completely true, as we see Arjun being aggressive in frustration, which he of course denies.

So I really need to know.
What would he have done if Maya would have not beaten herself, wouldn't have said anything in her defence, just stood there waiting for his actions to take place.
What would have been his actions??

We can never be sure of what Arjun would have done if something else had happened. Cause let's face it, this is Arjun we are talking about. The amount of times this guy has changed his stance regarding any matter is just numerous. Every other character in Beyhadh has always stayed true to their character(this is debatable but I believe it to be true) while Arjun has never shown any kind of maturity or sense.

@manya what Arjun wants is a big mystery. He contradicts his actions. He cares for Maya, at the same time hates her. He can squeeze her hand during break fast and push her back in anniversary party but so far I have not seen him really going violent.

Arjun's confusion is simple! He does not know yet who the villain of the story is!

Sometimes,he sides with Saanjh & Sharmas, thinking that Maya is the trouble-maker! That happens usually when he drinks heavily! And that is the only time his brain functions strangely but sensibly also!

All other times, he is constantly sedated either due to Maya's chaal or under the spell of her mayajaal!
He gets lost himself completely to make only an U-turn!

Whenever, it becomes clear to him who the baddie is, he may start his herogiri, hopefully!
