Season 2 has shown an almost 360 degrees flip in the relationship between Maya and Jhanvi. Season 1 , we were introduced to mother and daughter who were like a close knit family. Maya extremely protective and possessive about her mother. She would go to any length to protect her mother from the monster Ashwin. Jhanvi too would reciprocate- she cared for Maya, protected her as much as she could from her father.. She was wary of Arjun Maya relationship in the beginning because I think somewhere deep down she thought Maya wasn't capable of loving someone conventionally- love should be able to set you free..it empowers you but for Maya love is controlling.. Jhanvi also seemed to be unsure of Maya's feelings.. what she felt for Arjun was it love? What Arjun felt for Maya, was that love? Are her feelings misplaced.. Usaully mothers know their child best and so Jhanvi was skeptical about this new dimension in Maya's life- loving a man and devoting herself to him.. But I guess eventually she got convinced that Arjun was the man for Maya. She seemed genuinely happy for the two.. She made every possible effort to ensure that things go smoothly on the wedding day.. But alas!
Since that day onwards... since the day Ashwin died, Jhanvi has not been the Jhanvi we knew.. She was scared, hallucinating.. understandably so.. but those sinister smiles when she tricked Maya into visiting her..her talking and apologising to Ashwin..then the frantic call to Maya to reveal the name of the person who killed Ashwin.. the fatal fall from the building..coma and eversince that day Jhanvi has been lifeless..but only on the surface.. she thinks, she feels and she also reacts to people and situations..
Few things Jhanvi has been able to convey :
1. She empathizes with Arjun. Perhaps she can relate to his ''helpless'' situation.. Currently she seems closer to Arjun than she is to Maya.. and vice versa
2. She doesn't trust Maya.. In the ''attempt to rape'' case, she is not on Maya's side.. she might help Vandy get some proof against Maya..I am sure she also knows how Maya has manipulated situations to trap Arjun in this marriage- her suicide attempts, posing as a victim of marital abuse, fake pregnancy- all of that..Jhanvi knows..she doesn't approve of Maya's ways, her behavior..that much is clear..any concerned parent will disapprove.. But is that it?
3. Maya and Jhanvi ,both in a way have fallen in each other's eyes.. Maya seems to hold a grudge against her mother.. but why now? Jhanvi has always been like this.. what has changed now? and Jhanvi? Is she just a helpless, disapproving parent who gets annoyed by her child's misbehavior.. what would she do if she could be herself? Turn Maya to the police? I just wish, the two of them, mother and daughter could scream at each other, vent out all the anger, frustration and complain before Jhanvi does that... if she actually does that..
Jhanvi holds the key to most of the mysteries in the story- Maya's past including Samay and Ashwin's murder to name a few.. the day she gets off the wheelchair, will be one major turning point in the show..
