Hi, Thanks for your response. I will Pm you more details of the study if you want more answers after the reply below :),
The main research method is Film analysis where I will be taking the responses of the audience members as an additional way of triangulating the data obtained from literature review and film analysis. I will be looking into films from the year 2000 to present and the top grossing films for the decades.
My university emphasises qualitative research and therefore the focus is on analytical work and not statistics therefore there will be no statistical tests. And since this is done through the internet, it is very difficult to select a particular group of people. but I aim to have responses from both residential Indians and NRI or the diaspora community.
I will also be conducting focus groups as an additional method of triangulation.
I have done a very detailed literature analysis on the topic and if you wish I can send you a list of sources.
Furthermore, in my university, we focus on research questions and sub-questions rather than Hupothesis and nul hypothesis, and they are as following;
RQ: How are hegemonic masculinities and femininities (re)constructed in Bollywood films and what role can we expect these perceptions to have on condoning or resisting sexual offences against women in India?
SQ1: How are masculinities and femininities portrayed in Bollywood films and how do these relate to Indian societal norms on proper' behaviour for men/women?
SQ2: Do Bollywood films normalise or trivialise sexual offences through its portrayal?
SQ3: How have the portrayals of hegemonic masculinity/femininity and sexual transgressive behaviour changed after 2012?
SQ4: What are the views of the audience in relation to the abovementioned?
If there is anything that is still unclear, then please do send me a PM :)
M.
