Anu Aggarwal

After becoming a gold medalist in sociology at Delhi University, little did Anu Aggarwal know that one film would change her life. After a brief stint in modelling, and VJing, she made her big Bollywood debut with the musical blockbuster Aashiqui. The film gave her instant fame and every film-maker wanted to work with her.

However, things turned upside down in 1999.

A near-fatal accident in Mumbai lead to 29 days of coma. After a struggle of several years, Aggarwal turned to Tantric practices and Sanyas. At a TEDxWalledCity held in Delhi, she bared her soul like never before. The story was first reported by Born Of Web.

Here are some of the most heart-touching and hauntingly beautiful revelations by the 'Aashiqui girl' which will not only make you respect her for being a powerful woman, you'll learn to value life, a little more.

1. "I had become the new sex bomb! Well, a sex bomb is better than a nuclear bomb, isn't it?"

She was quite a bombshell in 1990's. Before joining movies, she had done few photo shoots and ad campaigns, including a condom brand which she endorse.

2. "I had almost died that night!"

"The accident took away my memory. It took me time to believe that this was a planet, to understand the shift of energy which was the day and night. The doctors still think it's a miracle that I am alive... Alive to tell you about the love I discovered through a ruptured body, bleeding brain and several incisions of needles and sutures made with surgical thread tied tight,"

3. After 29 in a life-threatening coma, she bounced back. When many would have given up, she chose the harder path & took sanyas

She said, "But it was sanyas that "brought about alchemic changes within me." "We are fearful and insecure, anxious and nervous, vulnerable and close-guarded. Our cities are being bombed, people are being killed and communities are rioting for their own demolition. In times such as these, we need compassion and love,"

4. Giving a second chance to life, she even discarded her sea-facing Worli apartment. Later, she returned to Mumbai as a yogini.

"The accident took away my memory. It took me time to believe that this was a planet, to understand the shift of energy which was the day and night. The doctors still think it's a miracle that I am alive... Alive to tell you about the love I discovered through a ruptured body, bleeding-brain and several incisions of needles and sutures made with surgical thread tied tight,"

5. Even after a brutal accident, she became an amateur weightlifter and competed in many weightlifting competitions.

In a recent interview, she said, "To feel strong, to walk among humans with a tremendous feeling of confidence and superiority is not at all wrong. The sense of superiority in bodily strength is borne out by the long history of mankind paying homage in folklore, song and poetry to strong women."

6. She revealed how 'helping others' is one of the best feelings in the world!

She currently teaches yoga to Mumbai's slum kids free of cost. AnuFun Yoga' is a healing module she herself developed after years of experimenting with Vipassana, Craniosacral therapy and Tantra across ashrams in Uttarakhand and Kutch.

It is such a sad story. An accident ended her career and took her life away from glamour.

Most of us are chasing all the wrong things in life. All the transient, materialistic BS.
Happiness and compassion are what we need in life the most. Though not undermining Maslow's hierarchy, money as a safety net is important too. But we get stuck there and never become self-actualized until tragedy hits. She's right though we fear loss too much, then why do we still build a life that is so fragile?

Often people who had near-death experience become spiritually enlightened. Same thing happened to Anu. Now she knows the true meaning of life.
