You know the drill. Here's the thread for today. If you refresh occasionally like you do for written update, you might be able to read as I update. I will start updating as the episode gets uploaded. You guys can continue your discussion. I will update as I go.Sometimes, we get so used to some people in our lives that we start to take them for granted. Kind of like, woh to hamesha rahega. Aur kahan jayega? Lekin duniya mein kisi cheez ki koi guarantee nehin hain. Nothing is infinite... Jiska shuruwat hain, uska ant bhi kabhi na kabhi hamesha hota hain.
The tree which never lived without a pillar behind him for support, will only value that pillar when that pillar crumbles and that support is not there any more.
I can speak from my own experience that sometimes my husband and I, both being strong personalities butt heads on very trivial issues, like why empty pepsi cans are not in the recycle bin and still sitting on the dining table.
I know, that's very trivial thing to argue about. But as I said, when two people live with each other, day in and day out, they sometimes start to take each other for granted.
But that's a slippery slope. Because you see, when we start to take people for granted, we stop telling them how much they matter and how much we love them.
Trust me, that goes a long way.
Even between a roaring argument, if I angrily tell my husband, I am so mad at you right now. But I love you anyway.
He gets mad and replies back, Yes. Well. Guess what? I am mad too and I love you too.
That just ends the argument right then and there. Because we both start laughing. And as you know, there is an unwritten rule that if you start laughing, the argument is null and void. Then you just have to hug and move on.
People sometimes don't give enough credit to little things. But they go a long way. Like a post-it note on the door in the morning saying "I love you. Hope you have a great day, darling", a text message in the middle of a busy day, "I am thinking about you and missing you, babes", or just grabbing a chocolate off the check out line at grocery story and sharing it with a cup of hot chocolate. All these little things smooth away bigger hurts, larger problems.
As family grows, problems grow and more and more things take your attention. But just how long it takes to whisper, "Hey there. I love you". Yep, two seconds tops. But those two seconds lasts the whole day.
Who has seen tomorrow? What's the point of mourning for the people once they are gone from your life? The only constant, the only guaranteed time and place is right here, right now. Kalke intezaar mein aaj ko khoke kya milega? Aaj to kabhi wapas lautega nehin aur kal kisne dekha hain?
So love now, cherish now, care now, live now... Kyunki kya pata? Kal ho naa ho!!! (Yep. Shahrukh is again on point)...
EPISODE: The episode starts with Dev and Sona carrying Bijoy downstairs with Asha behind them.
Soha sees Bijoy and says, What happened to Dadu?
Sona responds, Nothing. He is just tired so they are taking him to hospital. You stay with Gunni.
Soha asks, But Dadu was with Papa. How can anything happen to him? Didn't Papa take care of Dadu?
Sona looks at upset Dev.
Saurabh brings the car, they load Bijoy and drive to hospital with Dev on his bike.
At the hospital, Doctor tells them that Bijoy's blood pressure shot up. He had high blood pressure already. So he should not have drank so much alcohol. Now they have to keep him under observation. Because he is not out of danger.
Everyone gets worried.
Sona asks if her dad will get better.
The doctor says, Dr. Bose, you know the medication will take time to work. So until they they will have to wait.
The doctor leaves from there.
Me: No, doc. Dr. Bose's knowledge has off season and on season. You see, when her then current husband got fever, that was on season. So she single handedly saved his life. Then her daughter got minor cold in summer camp, that was off season. She didn't even have the brain to cure it with a Advil or Tylenol (or whatever the Indian equivalent generic off-the-counter, in every home drug is). Now that her father has high BP and he was locked all night without food and water, not sure what season is going on - Off or on. So her medical degree will vary accordingly.
Asha collapses on the seat. Saurabh consoles her. Sonakshi walks away.
Asha blames herself.
Me: Good. Self-reflection is necessary. I am glad you understood that you should not force people to like each other just because you said so. I am proud of you. Now that's called being sensible.
Dev follows Sonakshi, Sonakshi, I am sorry...
Sona turns to him: Sorry? There is no need to say sorry. Now you are saying sorry. Later you will again do something and say sorry again. What's the point of that sorry? I am used to it by now. When you are around, that's what I expect from you. You can only hurt people, make them sad. You can't do anything else. The worst thing is that people start believing you and then regret like I am regretting.
Me: First of all, Dev, stop saying sorry. Jahan bolna hota hain, muh mein taala laga lete ho. Aur jahan bolne ki jaroorat nehin, wahan sorry ki barsat.
Sonakshi, your father's responsibility doesn't belong to your ex-husband who hates him. Your father's responsibility is 1. Your father because he is an adult. 2. Your mother because she should have treated him like an adult and 3. YOU because you should have been a better daughter.
Blaming Dev for your screw ups isn't going to make any difference to your faults.
Dev: Sonakshi, I am just...
Sona: No need to give any explanation. You can't do anything right. If you do something right, you ruin something else. Even after being a father, you are the same person. You are still the same person - self-centred, selfish. Don't you remember what Soha said? That how could Dadu get sick, despite papa being there? She thinks you are superman. You are not superman. My father is superman. He always kept the family together. Never let us go separate.
And listen to me Mr. Dev Dixit. If anything happens to my father, I will never forgive you. And if I know Soha, she won't forgive you either.
Dev got tears in his eyes.
Me: Okay, here is the deal. No man is superman. Unless he is superman, then he is superman. Otherwise, every man is just a normal man. Fostering the belief that one's parent is supernatural being/Goddess/Filmy hero are a seriously eff-ed up way to raise kids. Because parents are human being too. They have their own flaws, make mistakes, learn from them etc. That doesn't mean what they have done for us gets reduced by any means. But that means that they are human being and we love them with all their flaws, battle scars and quirks.
And as it comes to Sona, I think sister, you are telling it more to yourself than to Bhaiya. If anything happened to Bijoy you won't be able to forgive yourself and Soha won't be able to forgive either of you for starting this harebrained scheme because a child said so.
Asha is looking at Bijoy through the glass window of the door to his room.
Saurabh comes there, Maa, Baba will be fine.
Asha tells Saurabh: He annoys the whole house with his screaming. Now see how he is lying silently.
Saurabh tries to joke: But your idea worked. Didn't you see how they were dancing?
Asha: Let him just get better. Then he can fight with me as much as he wants.
Me: That's exactly what I had wanted to say through my little blurbs. Be careful what you wish for. We complain about people's nature which makes them - them. But what if they change? Can we identify them anymore?
What if Bijoy becomes as sensible as Asha or maybe more so. Will she be able to recognise the man she loves?
Now that Sonakshi is just like old Dev and doesn't give a damn about pleasing anyone, Dev keeps complaining about that. But in last season, he used to complain about Sona's people pleaser personality which ensured that she gave a damn about every single person in his house.
Last season, Ishwari complained about Dev's love for Sona. But now he has no love left. Yet she complains about Dev's lack of feelings.
Elena was leaving for hospital. Radha stops her. Elena says that Soha called Golu crying that Bijoy got sick. She talked to Saurabh and he also said that Dev got Bijoy drunk so he got sick.
Radha is happy. She laughs that Dev got him drunk. Didn't get him poisoned.
Elena gets upset. She wants to go to hospital.
Radha stops her, You want to go there in Haldi. You want to go there for Sangeet. You have to go there everyday? Why? There is no need for you to go there.
Me: See this attitude that some in-laws think they have liberty to show? Who the heck are they to tell a girl whether she can meet her family or not and when? How would they feel if someone dictates to their son whether he can meet his family or when? This is the double standard I was trying to point out.
Elena says that they are her family and she wants to go. She will go there and no one can stop her.
Radha stops her blocking her way.
Golu comes there. Radha tries to send him inside and Elena tries to leave from the side. But Radha catches her hand and says, No meaning no.
Elena gives up.
Me: And this is the condition of many women of our country. I don't think I will have to point out here what 7 years of tolerance as preached by Asha got Elena. Do I?
Asha and Sona were sitting in the hospital when the doctor comes and says that Bijoy is out of danger and they can meet him. Dev is there too.
Asha and Sona go in. Bijoy wakes up and says: Did you think I was gone? I will not leave you guys so soon.
Asha gets exasperated.
Sona: Baba, don't say anything.
Bijoy: Beta, I still have to read the book of your mother's heart. (Asha and Sona smiles) I have to scan everything. What she thinks about our neighbour, Brata.
Asha says: Not Brata, Subrata.
Sona laughs.
Bijoy: See? You remembered neighbour's name so easily and forgot husband's name?
Asha: I haven't forgot husband's name nor his age nor his high blood pressure. You forgot. You know naa you should not have drank alcohol. Why did you?
Me: Ummm... I don't know, Asha. Let me think. If I am stuck in a room with someone I hate without food and water and the only way I can wipe out that unpleasant situation is alcohol, I wonder if I will turn to alcohol as well even though I don't drink any in normal situation. The situation you forced your husband in isn't normal by any definition naa.
Bijoy looks up and sees Dev standing outside worried.
He tells Asha, I saw the bottle of scotch in the room, so I couldn't control. Dev said a lot that don't drink, your health will go bad. But I still drank.
Bijoy looks back at Dev. He smiles a little.
Bijoy gestures Dev to come in. He comes in.
Dev comes in, I am sorry Mr... (corrects himself) I am sorry, uncle.
Bijoy: It's not about sorry. I was going to ask you (gestures peg) little little.
Dev smiles.
Me: This is how a parent behaves. Had Bijoy wanted, he could have used his sickness against Dev and made Sona throw him out of his house permanently like Ishwari did with Sona using her sickness. He could have claimed with pretend innocence that he didn't ask Sona to throw out Dev. She did it with her own free will.
But he didn't. First of all, he knew that it was not Dev's fault that he got sick, it was his as a consenting adult for making a bad choice knowing his health condition. Also, he kept the promise he made to Dev even when drunk.
Dev, learn from an excellent example, how to keep a commitment. You couldn't keep a single promise which you made in completely sober, he is keeping a promise he made when he was drunk.
And this promise even you had to keep because you know that Bijoy will hold you to it, or he will break his promise too.
This is how a father should be. If you have any sense Dev, leave your mother's toxic influence, and try to learn from this father what your father didn't have time to teach you.
Sona chides Bijoy: Baba...
Bijoy says: I was just kidding. But after a long time, I had a lot of fun.
Saurabh comes there with Ronita.
Dev jokes: Yes, you even left Michael Jackson behind with your moves.
Bijoy pouts.
Saurabh also jokes: Because of his moves he reached here.
Dev smiles.
Ronita chides: Very bad, Baba. What if something had happened to you?
Bijoy: Asha, this football already turning my soon-to-be daughter-in-law against me.
Asha: At least don't call him foot... that in front of Ronita.
Bijoy: I will call him football.
Ronita supports Bijoy: Yes, Baba. Call him football. That's your right. In fact, even I call him cute panda. (She squeezes Saurabh's cheeks).
Dev smiles at their cuteness.
Bijoy tries to get up. But Sona and Saurabh stop him.
Saurabh: Baba, don't get up. I will tell doctor to keep him under observation so that he can't create any drama in the marriage.
Bijoy lies down again: Asha, tell him that I am still his dad. He won't let me enjoy his own wedding. I know, beta why.
Saurabh asks: Why?
Bijoy: Because he wants to eat the entire food served in his wedding himself.
Saurabh: If you had to think something, you thought this? So bad.
Bijoy: Okay. I won't go to your wedding.
Saurabh: I have old whiskey. If you don't come, then...
Asha pokes Saurabh jokingly.
Me: There was one bride welcomed in Dev's house and one bride welcomed in Bose house. Do you see the vast difference? Elena was a runaway bride so no one was prepared for her.
Here, no one is giving warning to the new bride how she should start to change herself, how what she had been like prior to marriage she has to learn to modify as per their rules, how she should start to behave like a daughter-in-law and keep her head down... Instead they are making her comfortable, treating her as a daughter so that the same right Sonakshi has to joke with her father, she gets it too with confidence of a daughter.
If Dixit house is how society operates, then whose responsiblity it is to change it so that every bride enters a Bose house?
Even as a parent, would you rather your child gets married to Dixit house or to Bose house?
Asha is feeding Bijoy. Bijoy says: I am not a child. I can eat myself.
He tries to grab the bowl.
Asha: Kids are smarter. You are worse than a child. You can't be left alone at all. I have to keep an eye on you like kids.
She feeds Bijoy: You were hungry right?
Bijoy smiles and nods.
Me: Excuse me, Asha. You had not been keeping eye on him all these years and he was fine. The difference is that until now you guys didn't try to shove Dev down his throat whether he is fine with it or not. If you treat him like a child without an will, what behaviour would you expect to get?
But I am glad to see you taking care of your husband. Good job. Now concentrate on him and leave Dev and Sona alone.
Bijoy asks: Can I ask you something?
Asha is surprised: You are asking permission? You just ask at home. Go ahead and ask.
Bijoy: How am I as a husband and a father? Good, better, perfect?
Asha is silent.
Bijoy: None of them? Am I bad? I can't be bad. I have always taken care of you all, worried about my family. So am I bad?
Asha: That doesn't matter. Relationships are like wind. When wind blows hard, it feels like storm. When wind blows softly, it feels soothing. But does the wind ever stop blowing?
Me: I swear I will lock Asha and Ishwari in one room. Then they can cook each other's brains with paraboles. Normal people will get fed up with these two, I swear.
Bijoy: I don't know all these, Asha. Dev asked me that I might have made mistakes too. Asha, you think that's right? I can't be like Dev.
Asha: The point is not to be like Dev. The topic is about a husband and father. Is anyone perfect? You and me could go forward because we stood by each other in every situation. But Dev and Sona could not be together. I am not saying whether what they did was right or wrong. What is past, we can't change. But we can support them. Now for Soha, I will also support Dev. Bijoy, I want you support them too.
Me: What you said Asha is absolutely correct. You and Bijoy could be together because you BOTH stood by each other. Unfortunately, that was not the case for Dev and Sona and it's still not the case for them. So if you want to support them in their decision, then go ahead. But don't push them into being together. Because regardless how much similarity you can try to find, the situation are not at all the same. Just let them figure things out on their own.
Dev is sitting outside. Sonakshi comes there with coffee and snack.
Sona: You didn't eat anything.
Dev: Thanks.
Sona: I am sorry. I said too much.
Dev: It's okay. No need to give explanation. I don't know why in bad times, you think about bad times. Remember when Maa had sleeping pills?
Sonakshi thinks about that day, but says: No.
Dev is surprised: Maa was in hospital and you don't remember?
Sonakshi remembers everything but still says: No.
Dev is still trying to remind her: You came to hospital scared because I hadn't called you.
Sonakshi still says: No.
Dev is suspicious: You don't remember that day when you broke up with me?
Sonakshi turns to him: I didn't break up with you, you broke up with me.
Dev realises that she remembers everything: Right. Means you remember everything.
Sonakshi ignores them.
Dev: I know. I was just thinking that I had put all the blame of my mother's condition on you, blamed you. So I understand. When today your father is in this condition, I won't say anything to you.
You know what's the problem? We never take time to blame each other. We just take time to understand each other. That is how our relationship is. So if you want to blame, blame this relationship.
Dev leaves. Sona doesn't say anything.
Me: Bhaiya, great similarities. There is a difference though. You know, like the saying same same but different?
Your mother got sick because of the pills she took when Sonakshi always was utmost respectful to her.
Sonakshi's father got sick due to alcohol that he consumed when you were mostly instigating him.
So not the same.
You broke up with Sonakshi when you claimed to love her. Sonakshi blamed you when you both acknowledge that you two hate each other hence none of you have any expectations from each other.
You broke up with her, never to turn back until somehow Ritwik landed in her life. Forget about any apology or rectifying that mistake.
Sonakshi came to you with food and coffee and apologised.
See? Same same situation. But different approach.
But keep it up. I am sure you will see the difference in situation between the Bose bahu and Dixit bahu treatment shortly.
Hope you also use your newly acquired observation skills and observe the difference between Ronita's mother-in-law and Sonakshi's mother-in-law as well.
Bijoy comes home and Soha comes running. Soha says that she got scared when they took him away. But then she thought that her father will protect him because he fought with snake for her.
Bijoy says: Everything happened because of your father.
Asha gets worried.
He says: If he wasn't there, who'd have taken me to hospital so fast?
Asha takes Sona inside. She asks: Where is Dev? What's the problem?
Sona: Maa, I said too much to him at the hospital. I was angry and the situation was like that.
Asha gets exasperated.
Sona: Maa, I blamed him from all this. I tried to say sorry to him. But he was in his own trip, do you know what he said?
Asha stops her: You said, Dev said, your father said... I am fed up with all of you. I have become referee in your fights. Just 7 days you could not live in peace? I have said repeatedly that whatever is happening, is happening because of Soha. Whatever we are doing, we are doing it for her. But you and Dev have turned yourself into hero and heroine and your father has turned him into a villain. But the story is not about you. It's about Soha. Deal with it.
And I sit making people understand every time. But no one wants to understand what I am saying. So disappointing.
Asha leaves. Sona calls her, but she goes away.
Me: Asha, again very good points. But here's a solution for you. Stop being the referee, come out of your la la land and see the reality. If you put acid and water together, they will react. Dev and Sona are UTTERLY INCOMPATIBLE together. Dev was right today when he said that they keep blaming each other and never tries to understand each other. What is the future of this relationship?
So regardless how many times you sing bhajan in Soha's name, you can't stop them from reacting negatively. So stop. Back off. Let them kill or sort themselves out. You can't fix everything. Because there are somethings which can only survive when they are separated.
Because no matter what you say, at the end of the day, it's their lives. Not yours, not Bijoy's and not Soha's life that you are trying to modify here.
At Dixit house, Elena is trying to feed Golu but he didn't eat anything since this morning.
Golu wants to wait for BigCha to come.
Dev comes there and Golu comes running.
Elena says that Golu didn't eat anything since this morning. Dev tickles Golu to make him smile and he smiles.
Dev says sorry to Elena for Haldi day. Elena says that it was not his fault.
Radha comes there: Why are you saying sorry? All faults are of that Bengali Baba. I don't know how you are tolerating that family. Why don't you do something? Pick your daughter and bring her here. Then they won't be able to do anything. You couldn't stay for long there. That's why you came to your house, right?
Dev was silent until now. But he speaks: No, Mamiji. I have no complaints with them. I just came here for Golu. I will leave after some time.
Me: I am very glad Bhaiya that you have started to speak out in front of Radha. I'd like to notice a difference between this time and last time. I am not expecting you to defend Bose family from anyone (although you did try to defend them against Ronita's mother). But you have to make sure that if Sonakshi gives back ill treatment to your family in equal measure, you won't get offended. That's what you expected in Bose house, right?
Dev says to Golu: I have to show anger as well as love to you. What did I tell you about food? That with food...
Golu: No masti...
Dev feeds Golu.
Golu is happy.
Here Soha is waiting for Dev. Sona comes there. Soha asks about Dev.
Sona asks if she wants to meet him.
Soha says yes. I want to talk to him. I am missing him.
Sona thinks about what Asha said.
Sona tells her that he will call her dad.
Soha whispers to Sona to say that Soha is waiting for her. Sona calls Dev.
Dev doesn't pick up the phone.
Soha says that she will call. He will pick up then. Her fingers have magic.
Sonakshi gives her phone to Soha.
But Dev doesn't pick up her phone either.
Soha asks: Mama, Papa isn't picking up my call either. This never happens. What should we do now?
Sonakshi thinks.
Me: How convenient, naa? Dev has somewhere to escape. Sonakshi didn't have that escape route in season 1. But you have an escape route now, Sonakshi. If Dixit house gets too much, just come to your home, relax and if Dev or Soha tries to reach you, just don't pick up your phone. Let Dev explain to Soha where you went and why. What? You can't do it? Why? Because you are a responsible parent and you can't forget to pick up a call from anyone taking care of your daughter? Oh. I didn't know that's how a responsible parent behaves. I thought they just vanished without notifying anyone including their kids whenever they feel like it, like Bhaiya.
Dev is putting Golu to bed. Golu asks for bedtime story. Dev tells him story.
Golu says, Suhana is so lucky that she gets to hear story from you every night.
Dev: In a few days, Suhana will come here and then you two can hear stories from me.
Golu: When I have my sister, I will have so much fun, naa?
Dev: Yes.
Me: Awww... Poor Golu. He has no one, poor thing. Why didn't Elena and Vicky gave him up for adoption to Dev? At least, he will have legal right over him and they won't be able to use Golu like a pawn.
Here, Soha is not sleeping. Sona asks why is she still up?
Soha says that she wants to hear stories. She asks Sonakshi to tell a story.
Sonakshi tries to make up stories. But Soha doesn't like them. Sonakshi asks if she liked the story. Soha says yes first and then no.
Soha says: You didn't like the story either. But you were still telling me this story because you are world's best mother. But Papa's stories are the best.
Sona: Then shall I tell you a story from your Papa?
Soha: You remember Papa's stories?
Sona: Yes.
Soha: You remember all of them?
Sona: Yes.
Soha: That means even you can't sleep without Papa's stories.
Sonakshi goes silent.
Me: How difficult it is to call a phone no. and to tell stories to both kids at the same time? No really. Does it has to be this or that when technology can make you tell storied to someone halfway across the world?
Dev is thinking at Dixit house what Sona said in the hospital.
Sona is thinking at Bose house about past and recent past.
Me: Chalo. Kam se kam apna dimaag to laga rahe hain. Jitni jaldi dimaag daurayenge, utni jaldi yeh crazy scheme khatam hoga.
PRECAP: Sona gives a certain list to Dev and calls it today's list in sarcastic voice. Dev writes something on it.
Then he says sarcastically that it's only for a few hours. Then they will be in his house and her house rules won't apply there. Because then it will be his house, his rules. All the best to you.
Sonakshi doesn't say anything. But Bijoy overhears.
Me: Annnddd... They are back to square one. Bhaiya, yeh khokli dhamki naa unko do, jisne kabhi aapke ghar mein kadam nehin rakhha hain. Pehle bhi aapke ghar mein aapka aur aapki maa ka rule chalta tha to nayee baat kya hain? Aap logon ko Sonakshi bahut dino tak bardaasht kar chuki hain. Ab aap aur usse kya dhamkaoge?
Jo acid ka jala ho, unko machis ki tili se dar nehin lagta Dev babu. Aap jaise nazuk gudiya ko Sonakshi ki tolerance level kahan samajh aayega, jiski ek hafte mein sirf ek Bijoy ke taunts se hi halat kharab ho gayee.
Asha, zara Dev ko bhi tolerance ka lecture nehin dengi aap? You know, Soha ke liye?
Kya karen? Aap ki attitude aur koi emotion aane deta hi nehin.
