"where are you Rudra...?? Come to the hall... There is an engagement ceremony that is going to happen any minute..." said shivaay over the phone.
"I'll be there bhaiya..." replied Rudra and stared at the mobile screen wondering what was wrong with his entire family.
Was his shivaay bhaiya being ignorant towards him and his feelings..??
Didn't shivaay understand the reason of Rudra's absence from the engagement party. Couldn't he figure out that the only thing Rudra wants is to stay away from that party and those happy faces - who were just there for their own selfish purposes.
Reluctantly Rudra made his way to the hall and pasted a fake smile on his face for everyone that came his way or even looked at him. He was supposed to be happy or at least had to look one.
"Hey Rudy... kahan tha tu...?? By the way what a party...!!" said chubby as Rudra stood beside him.
"yahin tha... Thanks chubby..."
"tu khush hai na..??"
"yep... Happiest man alive..." Rudra smiled ear to ear and replied.
"Saumya is looking very pretty..." commented Chubby.
"hmm..."
"Look at her na Rudy..." chubby nudged Rudra to look at Saumya who was now descending the stairs with Anika and Gauri on either side of hers.
Rudra felt everything around him came to a halt when his eyes landed on the beautiful girl descending down the stairs. His heart almost skipped a beat when she smiled a bit and then looked down blushing, a hint of rosy red colour on her cheeks. Saumya looked nothing less than an angel and her beauty was on next level today. Rudra was suddenly reminded of how beautiful she looked as a bride when they got married under the influence of alcohol. She was his bride that day. Only his.
Rudra's lips curved into a genuine smile when he couldn't help but think of that day. The day he made her his. The very day they got married. No matter how many times he tried to erase those memories, but they never faded. He could still go back in time and live those moments exactly how they happened. It was and will be their' memory for life.
"Ladies and Gentlemen, Thank you for taking out some time and being a part of our happiness. It really means a lot to us and now I would like to call the soon to be engaged' couple on the stage. Please give a loud round of applause for Saumya and Rehaan..."
Rudra was brought into the real world by Shivaay's announcement and that too in the exact moment he was running away from.
She was getting engaged to that Ro-yaan.
His Sumo was getting engaged to someone who wasn't him.
And here he was standing amidst the crowd to witness the engagement. Great...!!
"you guys must have looked way better..." chubby whispered to Rudra.
"Saumya loves him chubby. Its ro-yaan that she wants..." Rudra replied bitterly.
"it wasn't until you pushed her away rudy... it's because of you that Rehaan is on the stage with Saumya and you here with me in the background..." said chubby.
"let it be..." rudra walked away and made his way to the bar.
He needs distraction and alcohol would surely help.
"Don't look at her Rudy... Let her go... She is a nobody..."
"she is your wife..." his heart stated.
"that marriage was a mistake.." Rudra reasoned.
"and so are your feelings... So go on and clap your hands happily when that rehaan puts a ring on saumya's finger. You also put a ring on her finger once, didn't you...?? Anyways... time for celebration rudy... your wife is getting engaged... yeeyyy..." his heart mocked at him.
But what was he supposed to do now...??
Wasn't he the one who insulted saumya all this while and blamed her for every freaking incident that happened. He pushed her away thinking he and his family were better off without her.
But why was he feeling empty tonight...??
He wanted this very thing from a while now and apparently when this is happening, he has been running away all day. The simplest and only solution he could think of. Running away.
"Rudra..."
Rudra turned around to find a worried Janvi looking at him.
"Are you alright..?? Why are you sitting here alone..?? You seem to be lost lately..."
"I'm fine... just not in the mood..." replied Rudra.
"Go upstairs Rudra or go out to a pub or something... you don't want to be here son.. I can see that..."
Rudra looked down at the beer mug in his hands as he had no justification for why he wasn't feeling happy or for that matter, why was he being affected by all this.
"Once in everyone's life, there comes a chance when he is given a choice - a choice to choose what he wants and who he wants. Some people grab that chance while others let it go. I chose Tej and I'm happy because that's what I wanted. I was engaged when I fell for your dad. I got up and chose whom I wanted and I don't regret it. Well sometimes I do... but it's all worth it in the end.. Atleast I didn't had to spend my life with the man I wasn't in love with.."
Rudra couldn't help but turn around to look at the girl who held his heart, irrespective of how many times he denied it himself.
"she doesn't love me any longer... Rehaan has always loved her more and he never left her side unlike me..." whispered Rudra, with his voice cracking by the end.
"Rehaan might love her more as you say but you are the one who holds her heart. If not, why has her eyes been searching for someone in this hall while her to be fiance was beside her on the stage... But the most important thing is Rudra-"
"is..." rudra looked at janvi with hopeful eyes.
"don't let history repeat itself baby.. If you decide to go for Saumya tonight, promise me that you would cherish her and would never ever become like your father. We don't need another Tej and Janvi you know... Love needs to win this time..."
"I feared commitment mom and I'm sorry this was because of this one marriage we saw failing every day. I will never do that to Saumya if choses me tonight..."
Rudra got up from the bar stool and made his way to the stage with hundreds of emotions jumping in his heart - hope confidence fear nervousness excitement and love.
"Ms. Saumya Tendulkar..." called Rudra.
Saumya who was about to put a ring on Rehaan's finger paused when she heard Rudra calling her name.
Where has been this guy all this time...??
She has been looking for him from the time she descended the stairs and she just caught a glimpse of his after which he disappeared.
"Mr. Rudra Singh Oberoi cant you see I'm getting engaged... can't you wait..??" said Saumya trying to hide the turmoil within.
"No I can't wait or else I would lose the most important person of my life..."
"So...?? Why do you want to spoil the most memorable moment of my life...?? You deliberately chose the day of my engagement as that day... why Rudra...??"
"I'm not here to spoil your day but I'm here to confess my love for my wife. I realised the depth of my love for her just a while ago when I realised I will end up losing her tonight and that too for life. I have certainly not been the best person you ever came across but I'm willing to be one. I love you saumya and I'm not afraid to confess it to you and to every person present here or to the world for that matter. I'm very sorry for the insults and humiliation I threw your way, but trust me I didn't do it intentionally. May be it was because I didn't want you to be part of my already messed up life or because I was insecure that you might leave me one day for someone who was perfect and worthy of you. I rejected you before you could reject me. And I regret it..." apologised Rudra, taking saumya's hand into his.
"you thought I would reject you... I fell for you Rudra and it broke my heart every time I realised you would never fall for me. I was never your type of a girl for god sake. You.. You feared rejection..." saumya said in a trembling voice while tears rolled down her cheeks.
"Love Angel... I fell for you even before you knew about me... I'm just lucky that that love Angel turned out to be you saumya... you're the best I can ever have. Will you please forgive me...??" asked Rudra.
"you just want forgiveness... even now...??"
"I want more but -"
"but she is getting engaged to me... breaking news..." interrupted Rehaan.
"And she is already married to me... even a bigger breaking news..." Rudra replied and then looked at Saumya who couldn't help but giggle.
"Will you marry me again Ms. Saumya Tendulkar...?? Please..." proposed Rudra going on his knee.
"Do I have an option Mr. RSO..??" asked Saumya.
"No you don't... You are struck with me for life..."
Saumya smiled at Rudra and said a "yes".
"So congratulations guys...!! And Rudra if you would have been a bit late, I would have refused to step back you know... I also love her you see... but I always knew it was you... you who was holding Saumya back..." said Rehaan before getting down from the stage.
"You don't want to stop him... do you...??" asked Rudra turning to Saumya.
"I want to go and kiss him..." saumya said intentionally.
"kiss...?? Dare you think about someone else Mrs. Oberoi..."
Rudra told Saumya as he shamelessly pulled her into his arms and dropped a kiss on her cheek. Saumya looked at Rudra with her cheeks red and hid her head in his chest.
"have some shame Rudra... everybody is looking..." whispered saumya.
Before Rudra could reply, Shivaay interrupted.
"Guys engagement kar lein..."
"ya ya.. please... jaldi jaldi..." exclaimed Rudra.
"I love you Rudy..."
"I love you more Sumo"
And they engaged rings.
Promising each other love and companionship for life.

Wasn't planning to end it on a happy note but I had to.. 😳 Given we Rumya fans don't get to see Rumya as they get absolutely no screenspace.
