There's no room for new Devdas: Anoop

"I never really got the hang of the TRP system. I guess the TRPs should be reviewed relative to the channel, time slot etc," says Anoop. Your track in Kahaani Ghar Ghar Ki suddenly changed and you are not seen in the show right now... Yes with 'Ram' (Om)) back in Sita's (Parvati) life I guess there was no room for a new age Devdas! That's what my character Suyash Mehra was called across internet blogs! On a more serious note, tracks keep shifting in soaps and one is ready for the same. When and if my character is needed back, he will be there. Were you expecting Virrudh to wrap up so soon? Honestly, no I was not expecting it. More than expecting I guess I didn't 'want' it to! That's because I was having so much fun playing Vikram Agarkar. I loved the many shades to the character, including the prominent grey ones. Virrudh was one show that got much appreciation yet the TRPs were low... I never really got the hang of the TRP system. I guess the TRPs should be reviewed relative to the channel, time slot etc. Yes Virrudh was a really well made show and the critical appreciation was tremendous. Suddenly people who had given up on daily soaps got up and took notice. So, I think Smriti (Iraani) accomplished a great task either way. Any new television role you may be taking up? Yes there are a few projects in the offing, and I am looking for a role with some substance. If things work out, I should start another TV project soon after my film shoot is through this month. With more channels coming up, is this boom time for actors? Yes there definitely is more scope, but the influx of actors has also increased. Also, one hopes that quality will be as important an aspect as quantity with this sudden onslaught! Would you want to get into production or direction someday? Yes direction in films is definitely on the cards. 'When' is a question that only time can answer. What about Bollywood? Strangely, despite my busy television schedule, Bollywood has been kind to me. Acting with Shabanaji and Naseerbhai after a long time was extremely welcome and rewarding! I'm currently enjoying shooting for another director I admire, Chandan Arora in a film called Striker . |
