The light hue of the noon was obliterated by the sinking melody of the dusk, the horizon submerged in the colors of nightfall. The once purple and orange hue tainted ocean of the sky now brushed in the shades of black with the rising moon bestowing its beauty with the canopy of the luminous flickering twinkles and to add to the beauty, the sea glistened with the reflection of the hazy dazzling sky.
The winds brushed past, forming ripples in the water, returning back after kissing her feet as she stood rubbing her arms, inhaling the serenity of the scene. The only thing that was left to add peace was nature and its beauty. Her tresses, dancing to the tunes of the breeze, she stared at the ocean of darkness above, the darkness that scared her once, but not anymore, even the shimmering stones studded, were missing in her tale, it was all dark she saw, yet it gave her a peace, a smile, at least the sky had something to be happy on, at least the darkness had something to shine upon of the talks of the moon and the stars.
She heard something calling her, rather someone, wanting to pull her back to the world of harsh realities, a world she wants to run, she desires to hide from. She kept her eyes closed, clutching and snuggling to her own self, not an ounce of desire to walk back to the same world.
'Saumya!'
She let go of the struggle to fight and opened her orbs, drowning back to the world, her dark world. She saw her friend, huffing and panting and gasping for breath.
'Kabse avaaz lagarahi hu, what are you lost in?'
She read her lips probably the one muttered of scolding's, her inner self too busy to hear her out. She felt her pals finger curling around her wrist dragging her towards the group, towards the world, towards him...
He sat there amongst his friends that rounded up around a bonfire. The aura of the place sent its vibes that embraced the atmosphere wrapping it under the haze of the evening and so was he yet the sudden desire evoked in his soul to see her. His eyes did wander around yet he wasn't able to take in her presence. He passed on the smiles, hurried ones trying to avoid wasting time looking at others; he wanted to see her and only her. He sighed, dejected, his eyes unable to capture her frame, closing his eyes, looking down, the sudden rise of sinking feelings brimming down. He chuckled, his Sumo ought to be a magician, because he felt being under her spell, as if something she casted upon him and he was all hers. She was marked in his breath, his dreams, his soul, his heart, his every moment desired her, he lost his being to her, all he knew he love her and that's all he wanted to know.
Something suddenly happened, something so strange, yet the strangeness of that emotion was now his best friend. He felt her essence; the wild thudding of his heart against his ribcage was the witness and looked up to see her walking towards them. Her long dark brown curls dancing to the tunes of twilight wind, her white dress, complimenting the serenity of her soul and he needless to say was bowled over as always. She passed a slight smile to everyone present. And stop! His heartbeat dipped, vanishing into thin air for a few seconds, as their eyes collided. His honey brown orbital's, melting into her hazy doe eyes, exploring the layers beneath, reading out the hidden mysteries yet to be unravel. Her eyes were a deep mystery, seizing a thousand untold tales, yet wrapped in a warm blanket, trying to cloak the sorrow, a melancholic veil of pain, which he was determined to tame.
She broke away the contact, her heart drumming against her will, going against her own determinations. She tried, but his presence made her weak, her resolutions crumble down with his mere presence and she wasn't able to hold it, not then, not now. She closed her eyes, controlling herself, no she won't let him, she can't and she won't!
He took in her observations, he knew she was as affected as him yet she ran away, from every single thing that ended up at him and he detested the fact. He was a goner the moment he saw her, he knew his heart danced on her tunes the second his gaze fell on her. He felt a strange pull, an unfathomable connection and an impalpable string drawn and held by both of them and her mere presence was enough to stir some deep melody in his heart, an untamed euphony. Yet her strange behavior left him confused always. She tried maintaining as much as distance she can, yet her eyes searched for him. She ran away, avoided him yet her reactions were talk of the other side which she didn't let anyone see, shielding it.
She felt his constant gaze on her, she knew he was looking at her yet she avoided smiling and talking to her friends, trying to masking her reactions, her emotions that drew up as he kept gazing at her. She closed her eyes, wishing him to stop staring at her, to stop those weird sensations that rushed through her. She turned her face away, unable to take the rush of emotions that almost burst through her, every time.
'Come on Rudra, don't be a spoil sport now! We need to have this song from you...come on buddy!'
He heard chubby and then the rest followed, encouraging him to sing but his eyes were stuck to her face, that avoided him, and on the sudden mention of the song, her face went almost white, her breathing he saw almost went strange. She got up on a reflex, turned away when Aaira held her hand.
She looked down to see Aaira's fingers wrapped around her wrist, Aaira stood up next to her, rubbing her forearms, trying to provide comfort
'I know Saumya, it's difficult, but you need to face it right? If you would walk out now, you are letting your past win over you, and you know you cannot let it win... It really wouldn't look nice if you would walk away... Rudy would be hurt and I am sure you don't wish to hurt anybody, let alone Rudra...we are there with you...don't worry...'
Aaira whispered and saw Saumya nodding slightly; she smiled and hugged her, pulling her again to sit with everyone. Saumya fastened a small smile and so did everyone. Chubby handed over the guitar to Romi who smiled placing it in position, strumming some strings to bring in the magic as Rudra signaled the song to her.
Waaqif toh huey tere dil ki baat se
Chhupaya jise tune qaaynaat se
Waaqif toh huey tere uss khayal se
Chhupaya jise tune apne aap se
The melody emerged from the slight fingers that played with the strings of guitar, as everyone smiled; wrapping their partners in an embrace and the singles wrapped their arms around themselves, letting the Melody engulf the place.
Her heart raced as his voice fell into her ears; she shut her eyes as tight as she could. His voice brought out certain memories, memories that were a forbidden lane, a lane she ran away from. She could feel his gaze at her and she wasn't unaware that whom he pointed, whom he was singing for.
A threshold of memories swiped through her eyes and she was helpless, as if they clogged her throat, unable to take anymore she fluttered them open, a thick layer of fluid at their edge, threatening to fall down and her lips slightly parted, quivering with gasps.
Kahin na kahin teri aankhein,
teri baatein padh rahe hain hum
Kahin na kahin tere dil mein,
dhadkano mein dhal rahe hain hum
He looked at her, his intruding mystery; he wanted to unravel the hindered emotions, why did she react this way, why was she so scared, as if running away from a lane that was chasing her and most importantly why only him?
And for a fraction of fractionate second their eyes met, and only for that fraction he felt her eyes devoid of mysteries, laying bare in front of him, full of pain and today even the reason was left bare. But it was cloaked even before he knew. She quickly disentangled the frozen look and looked away yet not completely. But today his gaze never softened rather they read passion and intensity, a determination to discover his answers, answers which scared her, the look that sent a shiver down her spine.
The way he conveyed his words they almost felt like he knew that he was affecting her, like he could read her just like an open book and he knew that yes somewhere he meant something to her, that neither she was ready to accept nor she was ready to have.
Tu Har Lamha.. tha mujhse juda..
Chaahe door tha main.. yaa paas rahaa
He smiled at Romi as the notes went up; dwelling into the intensity and so did his voice. He closed his eyes remembering the first time he saw her, it wasn't like usual love stories neither her hairs were flying nor her earrings swayed and there was no chance of the melodious laughter. Oh well, they weren't even fighting... It was something distraught yet beautiful.
He was laid on his bed, the hospital bed after the accident he went through. His family surrounded him but something that caught his attention was someone on the door as if peeking in. His breathe stuck in his throat, she was beautiful but as soon as he blinked she disappeared. Was it an illusion?
It was dark at night. He adjusted himself as the nurse was done with his medicines. The door swung open as the nurse slide out and he again saw her, she was passing by, her visage covered with dried stains of tears, her state a bit disheveled and she looked distraught. His gaze held her face captive till the door shut and even after that through the small glass circle he kept looking at her, something in him told to walk up to her and sooth all her wounds, somewhere deep inside he felt heart wrenched looking at her and then she looked up. Their eyes colliding for a micro second and her orbs widened and even before he knew she ran away. No, it wasn't love at first sight, just a click at first sight.
He came back to present as he saw some of his friends moving with their partners on his euphony.
She sat there as her eyes landed on two of her friends, Naina and Rithvik who slowly moved to the tunes and then Rithvik kneeling his hands out confessing his love. Though her eyes were stuck up at them yet her eyes wandered off to some memories..
She flopped down on her bed, reading out her favorite novel, totally engrossed, taken over by the magic of the literature when she heard her name being called out, she looked around and sighed. May be just an illusion but then she heard it again and this time she recognized the voice. She threw her book on the bed and rushed to the balcony. The sight left her stunned.
He was trying to jump and speak but Ayaan held him, covering his mouth. She gasped and looked at time it was almost midnight and her warden would kill her if she saw him here at the moment.
'Somu!'
He screamed only to be muffled by Ayaan. He pointed at her and she frowned, his behavior was quite unusual. She signaled them she was coming down. Once she reached, she saw them and pulled them to a corner.
'Somu!!'
He hugged her instantly as her eyes widened. She looked at Ayaan who was trying to hide his giggles but then realized something. Slightly pushing him he looked at him who had a sly smile on his face
'Are you drunk?'
She looked at him confused and he passed her an innocent look again throwing himself at her, pulling her in a hug, rocking her side to side. She looked at Ayaan who signaled he would wait outside. She nodded and again parted him holding his arms to have him stable.
'Oyeee! Why are you drunk?'
He giggled and then looked at her, flicking her nose and smiled huge.
'Tum bohat cute ho! Tum bohat acchi ho, Sumo you are the best!'
He said and then started screaming
'Somu is the best!!'
She placed her hands on his mouth shushing him. She could her Ayaan giggling and closed her eyes.
'Listen, I am removing my hands and dare you shout okay?! Shhh ekdum chup!'
He nodded like an obedient child and she removed it slightly and sighed in relief when he stayed mum. He tapped her shoulder and pointed at something, making a scared face. She gulped imagining what it could be and turned around but found nothing. Before she could turn and ask him, she felt something on her cheeks. Her palm immediately flew up to her cheeks where he kissed her, her eyes widened as she saw him coming in front of her.
She looked up at him, gone the giggles replaced by a sincere soft and passionate look.
'I think you should leave kisine dekh liye to problem hojaegi...good night...'
Saumya spoke barely audible, looking down and moved ahead but she felt a tug at her hand and even before realization dawned upon her he pulled her close to him. She slowly looked up at him, his fingers sliding the locks behind.
'R-'
'Shhh'
He slightly placed his finger on her lips and she looked up at him shocked.
'Somu, why does it happen with me, why is this happen to me?'
He placed her palm over his chest
'My heart starts going wild even if your name is mentioned, why I sleep every night with a hope to see you the next day, why when I wake up I smile just with a mere thought of you, why your happiness matters me the most, why your smile affects me so much, why talking to you feels like the best thing in the world, why...'
He trailed off and she looked at him taken aback. She didn't knew what happened whether of was the ambience of the place, or the winds that blew or what but she felt something stir deep down in her. He moved closer and she clutched the collars of his shirt tight, fisting them.
'Somu...'
'Hmmm...'
'I...I like you...'
She looked up shocked, everything stopped. Did he just say that? She didn't understand how to react, a drop cascaded down as she absorbed everything. She felt a weight on her shoulder and saw him leaning on her, unconscious.
She felt a thumb wiping down her tears as she saw up to see him standing in front of her. She kept staring at him as he leaned in and pecked her forehead. She closed her eyes relishing that moment. Something within healing and opened as soon as she realized that she was in present, back to present and pushed him away standing up.
She rushed past Rudra, running away from him, but before she could move far ahead she felt a hard thump, as if she hit something. She took two steps back and raised her head to see what or maybe who she collided with.
'Riyaan?'
Riyaan looked at her, reading her eyes, he knew she was hurt, she was broken, her eyes were tainted with red hue. He slowly wiped her tears, as she looked up at him..
'I am sorry Somu...'
He whispered and she gave a glance at him and looked down, not knowing what to answer. She knew he was sincere yet she couldn't bring herself to forgive him. She slipped out not wanting the situation to get any more awkward, unaware of someone watching them and observing them.
She washed her face, no not anymore! She won't cry enough of it! She needs to get over and she will.
She slide down beside Aaira and smiled, gone the forlorn look replaced by fresh and smile.
Uss din tu haan udaas rahe
tujhe jis din hum na dikhe na miley
Uss din tu chup-chaap rahe
tujhe jis din kuch na kahe na suney
Rudra was back with the singing and so did everyone sat down. She looked into her eyes but she smiled this time. She looked at the ring in her hands and pulled her hands close to her heart smiling. He looked into her eyes and then closed his eyes.
It wasn't long when he realized that the girl from the hospital turned out to his college mate. He was captivated by her, something impalpable pulling him closer, yet she avoided him as much as she could. She distanced herself from him, as much as she can lest she realized that he was badly held by her. She only pulled him just a like fire does to moth.
She did lash out him yet he knew she didn't mean to. Something in him never believed her this face. And only way he could come to conclusion was playing the same game. He ignored her and even went missing, when he received no response his heart felt dipping, probably he was imagining things get the moment he stepped foot at home, he could bet that the look on her face gave away all her ignorance all her facade. The ignorance that followed did affect her and he was sure that he isn't the only one in the play.
He smiled remembering all those times when he realized that he did affect her. The way she went nervous around him, or gets upset with his ignorance he knew that she was a part too.
She walked behind him all the time offering him everything he needed anything and he smirked slightly, happy at the turn of events but as soon as he tried confronting she was back I'm her cocoon.
Main hoon bann chuka, jeene ki ik wajah
Iss baat ko khud se tu na chupaa..
He opened his eyes and got up singing around as everyone was back dancing. She looked at him walking over to her, looking directly into her eyes and she knew he meant what he sang. He stopped by her and gazed softly at her. Her smile shrunk a bit and they both stared into each other's eyes, the blowing breeze adding its enigma. He lifted his hand and placed it in front of her, she looked at him confused but then drowned in the aura of the moment and swiftly slides her palm in his, his magic spelled over her. He leaned in whispering the line 'Main hu ban chuka jeene k ek wajah' and she looked up at him.
