Shivaay the Patriarch

Patriarch means head of the family or father figure...

Shivaay has been taking up the patriarch role from a big brother role slowly. Yesterday's episode where he decides to bring Sowmya back to OM was a decision of the head of the family. When he asks Rudra to apologise in the stern way, he takes up the father role. He spoke to Rudra like how a father will speak to his son, the tone & expression was bang on of a dad's. Rudra did not even utter a word and he immediately followed Shivaay's command. None in the family questioned Shivaay decision ...

Over time Shivaay has been taking responsibility and decisions for his family. Either stopping pinku's roka with Dev or Om leaving the house or convincing OM to meet the girl (Sonia) or indulging & supporting Rudra or deciding on prinku alliance. Tej is visibly angry at him for deciding his kids life...the problem Tej has is that they accept Shivaay's decision and has this immense faith on him time and again. Shivaay has always been a man who priority is his family who has been doing his brother and de facto father duties without any expectation. Now when the kids have grown up and have a say in their life, Shivaay authority over them is clearly visible for all.

Tej who has taken the family for granted is given a big shock from his own kids and Shivaay doing well in business is a double whammy. With all the rumours of Shivaay illegitimatcy and him leaving OM, the question is not will he survive but will the Oberoi family survive without him? He is by nature a leader and fighter also he has Anika in his corner as support...

Couldn't stop myself from posting after watching yesterday's episode. Would love to hear all your thoughts on this...

I'm sorry for taking so long to edit

I agree with you. I don't even think it's a slow progression. I think Shivaay has always been the patriarch of the house. Remember the initial episodes? Shivaay decided that all 3 of the sons were going to do the pooja together and be waaris of the household and no one - not even Tej - questioned his decision.

OmRu have always looked to him for comfort and guidance. They discuss problems and life decisions with him and like to know his opinion of things before taking a decision. Shivaay, too, acts as their father. Remember he picked out a studio for Om? He's their dhaal - something we associate parents with.

Tej has always only been obsessed with business. In fact, I don't like people comparing Shivaay and Tej. While they might outwardly seem similar with their NKK jhaap, they couldn't be more different.

When it comes to family, Shivaay is giving. He'd go to any length to protect his loved ones. He'd make any sacrifice necessary. his own happiness and comfort will come in 2nd. Tej, on the other hand, is selfish. He wants his happiness, his comfort and he doesn't care if he shatters his kids and wife in getting it.

Shakti, on the other hand, is too weak to be a patriarch. He's indecisive and relies on his brother and son to take decisions.

So yes, the responsibility fell on Shivaay's shoulders and he's borne it (mostly) to the best of his abilities.

Nice post 😊

i loved what u wrote👏👏👏
u're gr8 at expressing ur self⭐️⭐️
honestly u just spoke my heart in this post & i am terrible at expressing well
since the day the illgetmacy thing started doing the rounds there are 2 things that i wanted this track to hightlight
1- annika's support for shivaye

2- i wanted Om or rudra to actually confront tej about shivaye...the fact that tej wants rights on his children's life without actually doing anything for them while shivyae was always there for the three

i really want that confrontation...tej once said (i think) that he was busy in bussiness that's way he never had time for his family & shivaye (in every way) proves him wrong...he's more successfull than him,he keeps the family together & he has everyone's faith in him...every time an incident (from the ones u mentioned) happened i used to say "gosh, if some 1 would just confront tej & point it out to him that it was shivaye who took care of the kids and the family when he was busy with women& moeny"

finally, tej needs some 1 to teach him that : love, respect and rights are not given (by default) they are earned & he hasn't done anything to earn any of the three

@risha, Thanks! Nice post yourself... it is difficult not to admire Shivaay as brother
I agree Shivaay has been taking responsibility without expecting anything and it was kind of duty. With great responsibilities comes great power is the new statement, when someone takes care of all your needs you tend to goto him for any issues. His siblings have always leaned on him and now it gives him greater influence in their life.

Shivaay has been the driving force which holds the Oberoi family would be interesting to see how they fare if he goes out of the family. Doubtful if they will allow him to distance himself...

@EnasZ - thanks, Great to know that there are others who think like me. I want Om Ru confront Tej on his father rant. Tej had insulted Shivaay so many times on his intention towards his siblings.

I want especially Rudra to get back to Tej telling him how Shivaay has been a father to him and thus earned his respect and trust. Which is what Tej doesn't understand...

@Nancy Paul, Tej lives for himself and has his own views. He loves his kids but they are not his first priority and also in a way he is disappointed with them as none of them is as bold as him or is involved in his business. Whenever he looks at Shivaay he feels it is his kids place at the head of family Shivaay is playing. He feels that Shivaay is a rival to his children's right and unable to understand the protector role he plays to the family especially to his siblings as he compares Shivaay with himself. He feels they both are similar but reality is opposite, Tej first priority is himself, Shivaay's first priority is family...

Lovely post.

The family gave Shivaay the position willingly and unanimously because his love for them isn't conditional. He has no ulterior motives behind his actions. Rain or shine his family always comes first. He notices, appreciates and acknowledges his siblings' strengths at the same time making up for their weaknesses. He's a family man through and through.

I don't like Tej nowadays for obvious reason, but I'm intrigued by his character. He is the personification of a grey character. His motives can be understood, but his methods are ALWAYS horrible. He worked hard for his family, built this empire for them, and only wants his sons to succeed (poor Prinku is left in the dark). The problem is he is more focused on usurping Shivaay's success and not building up his own kids. It always bothered me how dismissive he is in general of them. Om worked hard and made a name for himself doing what he loves as a parent he should be proud not comparing him to Shivaay. He completely neglects Rudra and Prinku. The only time he realizes his children exist is when compares them to Shivaay, tries to sell them off to the highest bidder, or when he wants to pit them against Shivaay. He doesn't like Shivaay's success or his influence on his family, but he hasn't earned their affection or their respect.

Both Tej and Shivaay are similar, but also very different. I remember the bedroom scene where Tej was livid about Shivaay's personal stocks doing so well and Jhavni baffled at his response. Whereas with Shivaay the only time we were shown him looking at stocks or mentioning them was when was proud of the company stocks prices rising. His success is the family's success, but Tej is only interested in his own success.

I'm glad the writers might finally be exploring the Tej-Shivaay dynamic soon.

Hey, I like every single post over here! Well thought & beautiful. I would actually love to see Tej- Shivaay dynamics back then when Shivaay just started working & now. We can certainly assume people must be thinking that SSO is Tej's protege back then.
Coming to the topic, I feel that the thing which makes our parents, our parents is their undying desire to see good for their children. As you turn into a parent every single decision you take is well thought keeping your children in mind & you prioritise them over yourself.
Shivaay has been a father to all of them. He has always been prioritising their needs & well being over himself. I totally agree with Pinky when she rants about Shivaay acting a saviour for all. It is quite visible in the fact that all of his siblings come to him with their problems. Best example is Prinku who shared such a huge secret of hers with Shivaay. Not with Om or Rudra but Shivaay. That shows the amount of trust they have in him & how large is their belief that no matter what Shivaay will solve whatever may come.
Secondly they listen to him. He doesn't have to force them or yell at them. Whatever he asks they do because they have this sense of respect for him, we have for our parents.
I feel Tej expects the fruits of the work he never wants to do. And when he sees Shivaay reap them, he gets jealous. I feel he is such a beautiful grey character that if developed well , he would make a good villain. And the best part would be we would be torn apart in his conflicts bcoz we would see his emotions instead of just seeing a bad person. So the CVs won't need to recur or bring new villains.
I don't know whether this illegitimacy track is true or not but, we would definitely see OmRu confronting Tej, and I would love to see that.

Tej himself listens to him even though he is jealous of him. Only that shivaay knows how to convince ppl. Tej was about to leave with svet. He told sonia's parent's visit and business implication and stopped him. He knows what works on the individuals.

I somehow cannot believe tej turning full on negative over this as in planning plotting. But yes if any illegitimacy theory is put up by the vamp/villains he might use it.
