He may be sans the dapper suits and the gelled hair, but dressed in a casual shirt and blue jeans, Ram Kapoor is just as suave, and charming as Jai Walia, the character he plays in the popular serial Kasamh Se.

Tell the actor this and he says, "In these arenas, I am like Jai. But he is a very serious kind of person. I, on the other hand, am much more fun loving. I love to do masti ."

Wooing Gautami:
So did he woo his wife Gautami with charm or masti? "I think both. Maybe you should ask her about it." Ask him to recount one romantic thing he did, which he cherishes till date and he says, "It was our first wedding anniversary and I got Gautami a six week old cute pug. The reason I chose this gift was that she hates dogs, while I adore them." Just when you begin to think about the romance in this, he clears the doubt saying, "The romantic part begins now. On getting this gift, all her maternal instincts were aroused and she was taking care of the pug like she would care for a baby. She didn't find stray dogs annoying anymore and began to love dogs. Four years have passed and she says she has not got a better gift and that she loves me for gifting it to her."

Star couple:
With hectic lifestyles and maddening work schedules, does he find time for fitness? Laughing heartily he asks, "Does it look like I have a fitness regime? Six-pack abs are not for me. I'm working on a barrel!" And does Ram find time for Gautami? In a matter-of-fact manner he says, "We don't find time for each other. I work for 12 to 16 hours a day and she too has a busy schedule. But I keep Saturday for my family. Either we got out, or I play with my one-and-a-half-year old daughter Sia and in general I don't allow work to interrupt my family time."

Acting school to television:
After studying method acting in America for four years, Ram Kapoor came to India to make a career in television industry and theatre. But he had to wait for six months for his first break, there's been no looking back since. Ask Ram if he feels he is doing justice to the course and he says, "Totally. The first thing we were taught in the acting school was to get work--either in TV, theatre or films. There are so many people coming to Mumbai to make it in the glamour world, and only a handful of them make it. I am glad that I am doing good work." His thoughts on Bollywood? "I am too happy doing television to even think about it," he says candidly.

Ageing and time leaps:
When many of the TV stars are quitting shows because they have to look old, Ram thinks differently. "I don't understand this fear of ageing on screen. I am here to act and will age if the script demands it," says he. And what about time leaps? "When serials run into years, this is one way to give serials a fresh lease of life," he adds.

Reality shows: With reality shows gaining popularity, has Ram ever been tempted to take part in one? He answers, "I am an actor and have been schooled to act. I can't dream of doing anything else. A lot of channel guys tried to coax Gautami and me to do a dance show, but we didn't give in." And does he have any reservations about the shows? "Oh no! I love the way TV's face is changing. Earlier, we had only soaps, but now we have a variety." Saying that he'd love to see the Indian parallels of Ally McBeal and The Sopranos-type of shows, Ram Kapoor believes that the day is not far when this actually happens. "Television industry is in the most exciting phase now," he adds.
