Kabir-Imtiaz-Zoya - KWK-5: DT Salman - SRK always late on d film sets

Koffee With Karan season 5 will wind up soon and it has given us some really exciting episodes. Our personal favourite is the one where Kangana Ranaut takes the couch and puts Karan Johar in a sticky spot. The actress made sure she reminded him of everything he ever said to her or about her. It was one sassy episode. Next up is a gupshup of four prolific filmmakers namely Karan Johar, Kabir Khan, Imtiaz Ali and Zoya Akhtar. It seems like a roundtable conference of four of those directors who matter the most to the industry now. But that's not what we are about to talk here. The realisation that none of these guest directors are aware of Shah Rukh Khans names in films have really made us wonder, do they even watch his films? The irony is two of them worked with Shah Rukh Khan, Kabir on Tubelight and Imtiaz on The Ring. So Karan asked to all them to name three films that had Shah Rukh Khan as Rahul. The question drew a blank from the guests on the couch! Yes, none of them knew! Now that will require some sinking in from our part as we weren't expecting that. So weird. Furthermore, Karan also asked Zoya, "What do you think Farhan Akhtar is more popular for?" And the Dil Dhadakne Do director says, "His looks." She then realises this might get her into trouble with her brother and looks mock-horrified. Check out the video right here.


As much as we like these chat sessions Karan Johar has with Bollywood natives, we will have to bid adieu to the show soon enough. DNA reported that the show will soon wrap up on March 19. Juries on that episode will decide who did the best in the show. Kapil Sharma's episode which was shot long back, will finally go on air on March 5. What we found more interesting in this season is the recurring visits by Arjun Kapoor. He took the couch with Varun Dhawan and showed how they actually bromance for real. But it was his presence between Ranveer Singh and Ranbir Kapoor, that was awesome. Ranveer really disliked it when Arjun, his baba, named the Ae Dil Hai Mushkil actor the best kisser. Then he sat between Kareena Kapoor Khan and Sonam Kapoor saving that episode from being a complete bore. We wonder Karan will bestow some award on him as well in the last episode.

Koffee With Karan's today's episode is indeed a special one as opposite to Karan who is himself an director were people of his league - filmmakers. Sitting on the couch were Imtiaz Ali, Kabir Khan and Zoya Akhtar. All the three have mastered the art of filmmakers and all credits to the brilliance of their writing and direction.

Well, this episode was a little hatke so there was no Rapid Fire round but a Cross Fire round! And Karan who is the master of wit asked the filmmakers on which actor or actress comes late on the sets and who is the most punctual one.


Starting with Zoya, she smiled and said Amitabh Bachchan as the punctual one and Shah Rukh Khan was put, of course, in the second category. Well, Zoya has worked with Big B in the 2013 film Bombay Talkies. Cut to Kabir Khan, he also stated Bachchan ji's name in the punctual list, but for the late latif on sets, the named which popped in was Salman Khan. Kabir and Salman have worked in films like Ek Tha Tiger and Bajrangi Bhaijaan. The latter one became one of the major hits of the Indian cinema.


Now, it was Imtiaz Ali's turn! He also took the King Khan's name in the late comer category. Currently, the director is working with SRK and Anushka for his next. But, for the punctual one, he took the name of Ranbir Kapoor.

It'll be interesting to see what Salman and SRK have to say on this!

A lot of Koffee with Karan seasons follow a similar format. It's usually the bigger stars that make an appearance first, and the latter few episodes are reserved for the rest of the industry folk. The show itself caters to its guests stardom, and the questions and topics discussed are mostly either pertaining to their personal life or controversies. Imtiaz Ali, Kabir Khan, Zoya Akhtar This episode from season five, however, with directors Zoya Akhtar, Kabir Khan and Imtiaz Ali was very interesting. It actually gave an insight into the minds of these three filmmakers, how they work and how their creative juices flow. There was a conversation about songs in their films, and how each director deals with a lip-sync situation. With Johar's films, the songs are an integral part of the narrative, but both Imtiaz Ali and Zoya Akhtar, whose films have some excellent music, spoke about how shooting songs are a lot of fun, but they have to make sense to the film. Zoya gave an example of the song 'Senorita' from Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara, and how she got all three actors in the film, Abhay Deol, Hrithik Roshan and Farhan Akhtar to sing it, to lend a sense of authenticity. Kabir Khan also informed us about how it is being an "outsider" " a documentary filmmaker from Delhi who only wanted to make one film. He said that since he has already achieved what he wished for, and more, that everything he does now is bonus for him. He also shared an interesting anecdote about how Salman Khan can cry on camera at the drop of a hat. The conversation also veered towards film criticism in India. While Zoya admitted that she reads some reviews, and has actually learned from a suggestion critic Baradwaj Rangan made about her dialogues being too literal a translation of her original English lines. Karan Johar said he has an obsessive problem of reading everything out there. Kabir and Imtiaz were rather nonchalant of reviews, but Kabir did reveal a story about a producer had told him about the concepts of a pre-friday film and a post-friday film. The former is a film that has recovered its cost before its theatrical release, through music or satellite rights and such, while the latter is a film that gains popularity via good word of mouth. Another meh episode. After PC's KJo should have compiled rest of the episodes into one: A khichdi episode.

He should have got his buddy Faraha Khan too. That would have brought the sass in his episode. One for the people interested in movies. 😃

Kapil's ep is on!! Yay!!

I quite enjoyed this one. Zoya not knowing any Urdu words was so ironic & so funny. 😆 😆 I really like her friendship with KJo, always felt they have this connect.


Kabir is one dishy dude! Love how he called out KJo's obsession with John saying "you would know better. 😉 " Ha ha, cute.



Imtiaz is the quitest of them all. Looking forward to Kapil's episode now.

Zoya as always was pretentious as eff 😕 What is up with her obnoxious attitude and superiority complex? Worse was her reaction when Imtiaz guessed that Dhak dhak is from Beta. And KJo had to pitch in (or rather clarify) and add that its Madhuri Dixit who was every straight male's fantasy so it was not surprising that Imtiaz knew the song 😆

Of course they are late.

I feel like Zoya has said "I'm here to make movies!" in every season of KWK 😆😆
