JNDSD~ My take Friday 17th February 2017 ~ love's captive
Would it be correct to suffice that even though one feels free, deep inside one is still held captive by perhaps a weakness or even a strength. It may well be that one is trapped by one's circumstances. For some, traditions, cultural values, faith and beliefs in philosophies, doctrines can make one enslaved and confined in mindset. As I watched today's episode images of being imprisoned , detained, confined sprang to my mind. Alongside images equated with criminality are used in the episode. There is a macabre fore-boding of something terrible about to happen.
On private personal business, Suman visits the head of the family. The jail prisoner visiting room setting is indicative of some Inauspicious occasion in the pipeline which contrasts with a wedding underway at home. Suman fails to make headway with the male Vashist at home so she now seeks a session with the patriarchal Vashist banged up behind bars. Suman complains about Ravish's disobedience , in going against her wishes. Here before the senior Vashist she seems imprisoned by her poor parenting skills? Since Ravish is hell bent on getting Atharv and Vividha, married contrary to her wishes Here I recall Ravish's obedience in following his father's orders of restoring his brother and stepmother to Vashist handshousehold. Seeing these two together it's easily seen they both agree on Atharv being a thorn in their side. Suman even calls Atharv illegitimate, and seeks the old man's help. Without remorse he is today too, as he thinks of a lethal intervention. Suman although disapproving of senior Vashist's modis operandi of assaulting Atharv, previously.. in a quiet vindictive way, Suman is too much held prisoner by her selfish maternal instincts of misreading Ravish reasonable approach of accepting Atharv and Vividha's relationship. Hence she leaves it in her FIL's capable hands to do as he deems fit to stop this marriage from happening. Is Suman too thus bound in colluding to hatching a conspiracy to kill?
Atharv's play dressing in the sherwani.. with a captive audience Suman and Vividha. The sherwani the traditional attire for the groom. Atharv still imprisoned by his madness, puts it on .. symbolizes his willingness to be his Vividha's groom. But swiftly the next minute he peels it off symbolizing that now the very thought is unthinkable to him! This was a bond he refuses to be imprisoned with ! half jestingly he clarifies for Vividha she is a friend! not girl friend. Obdurately she retorts she is both ! she argues against his protests.. till suddenly he blocks his ears to her stance and let's his no! to marrying her prevail! For Atharv , their bond now is captured in a block of stone with the inscribed , just good friends! ..here stands Atharv held hostage by what his eyes see..
Vividha's love makes her non -compliance and self willed ! Sujata still tries to deter her from going through with the marriage .. she can see the way Atharv is.. but Vividha is bound by her determined love and yet again she reiterates her stance.. marriage today and to Atharv only! She is the new age girl who hangs on firmly to her love, firm and unmoved by the likes of gentle souls like Sujata too...Vividha knows its hard but she will have to veer Sujata too ..
Suman's absence is missed and when she does return , her reason is flippant. She is accountable to no one. Sujata still shows sensitivity and once again explains this marriage is difficult for her to accept . But Suman, trapped in her bitter haughtiness retorts , it's all right for her to say so as it's her son Atharv Vividha is getting married too! From the shadows, Atharv hears and watches his mother has to suffer. More so now, he is held captive by his resolution ..vividha and him cannot marry to disturb the peace within the family..
With gentle persuasion Vividha ensures she gets her prenuptial blessings from Sujata . Atharv pretends he is busy with the festoons.. but he steals glances at Vividha's progressive march forward towards this marriage, he so wants to stop from happening. But this Vividha!is on some crusade against him! She will be the one to destroy his whole act , he carps from the wings! The mehndi scene is a reminder of the name finger traced in the dry rice .. Vividha wrote Atharv's name though, it somehow changes to Ravish name..this time Vividha reverses that event and forces Sujata to write Atharv's name in heena on her palm! It's like Vividha is ready to fight the lines of destiny etched on her palm. she wants to break off the fetters where females are discouraged, active participation in their life's decision making. Vividha in fact deals with firm opposition from Sujata in the ritual.. but Vividha argues if she has no objection to the marriage then why should anyone object! Sujata has no other choice except to put Vividha off by telling her its Atharv who himself does not want to marry her due to his condition.. with each opposing factor Vividha gains momentum towards reaching her objective.. she is captured with the idea of marrying Atharv ..
Ravish as expected turns up to give good wishes to Vividha, and visibly delights upon seeing Atharv's name written with henna on her palm. Vividh's only concern is to get her marriage underway! The auspicious approaches soon. She asks Ravish , to get Atharv ready , while she gets ready herself ..
As Ravish lovingly frees Atharv from the flower garlands around his neck.. to me its an image that suggests ..rosy idea of getting married but for him to go through it means to suffer strangulation! It's something that will kill. Ravish cajoles him into getting dressed, which Atharv point blank refuses! He will act awkward and difficult and big a nuisance for his brother Ravish! For Atharv knows his brother being the soldier has an inherent gentle tone about him .. Ravish will put up with him! Hear and understand him! Atharv brings on tantrums and announces to Ravish he cannot marry Vividha she is his friend.. based on fond memories when Vividha called their bond, a bond of friendship. He gently coaxes, Atharv into putting on the sherwani.. and tells him anecdotally it's good Vividha is his friend they'll be very together! But when Ravish tries to put Atharv's turban on his head.. Atharv in a tantrum hurls it down on the floor... ominous.. heads will roll?
Looks like criminality arrive..in the shape of a flower vendor ,with a gun tucked away in the flower basket.. possibility the flowers may be used to mark a death rather than a wedding?
Here comes the bride dressed in crimson .. She comes down the stairs a lone figure.. Unsupported, deserted by all in her decision to marry her, not quite right groom. All the women in her household, persuaded her, wheedled her, coaxed her into not carrying out this venture. She is judged for taking a hasty decision which she may regret! But Vividha has to take this decision, for the sake of love in the name of Atharv . There is one who supported her .Her friend Ravish. He keeps his promise to her. Now Vividha has to see if Atharv keeps his promise to her today..
Gracefully she takes her place, as unconventional as it appears, and Vividha waits for her groom. no sign of him. She turns to Sujata for help. But Sujata looks the other way. It's all to clear to Vividha, if Ravish cannot bring him to the mandap! Then Vividha will break some more rules and if needs be drag him down to the mandap! As Vividha has decided she will marry Atharv today!! Hamlet53 18.2.17
Interesting episode, love, conspiracy ,murder? Vividha continues to be the persevering, strong ,sincere and stoic face of woman hood. She knows exactly what she wants and with due respect to her, brings her groom to the mandap!Because Vividha always wanted Atharv to marry her!will she finally get Atharv to marry her?..
Precap: as expected Atharv is likely to put up stiff resistance during the ceremony.. or is he in for a shock of his life.. shock treatment to snap him back to sanity for good? Or is Vividha going to be my hero in the story?
