Chapter 2 ~ Damon
"How are you feeling now?" I heard a deep but sexy and masculine voice question me. I flickered my eyes open, trembling, afraid of what I had seen before I blacked out. I searched the room looking for the owner of the voice and was immediately calmed when I saw a human stare back at me. He was wearing the same light navy blue tuxedo I had seen on that creature. His chest was hairless. Heck, his arms were hairless from what I could see by his rolled-up sleeves. God, had I hallucinated again?!
"I thought you were a giant wolf-man wearing a tux." I muttered loudly before realising how stupid I sounded. "I'm going insane!" I added, as I felt my face flush bright red. I heard him laugh in the distance. He was pouring what smelled like coffee into a cup. I can't remember how many days have gone by without me having one of those. "How long have I been here?" I questioned. Panic rising in my system again.
"2 days now. You were blacked out for most of it." He replied as he sat on the bed next to me and offered me the cup of coffee. I had always had bad vision so now that he was up nice and close, I could see just how gorgeous this man was! His eyes a deep ocean blue, skin a warm yellow with no imperfections, hair as black as the night, lips as red as the rose in his garden and his sharp jawline and strong built body had me short for breath. His voice broke me from my trance. "You should stay here till the blizzard's over, hopefully just another week or so. Till then, be my guest."
"I don't know... uh sir? My mother must be worried. If you could arrange some transport, I'll be on my way at first light tomorrow. I wouldn't want to burden you by staying here that long". I said, slightly wishing I wouldn't have to leave him.
"I'm afraid my horses had fled along with yours the other day." He said. "Meanwhile, you're welcome to make yourself at home. I have a few gowns you could wear of my mothers and food is served at breakfast at 9am and dinner at 7pm each day. You don't need to worry about your mother. I have sent a servant on foot to deliver a letter and the money along with a little more cash."
"Thank you!" I yelled as he left the room.
I hopped out of bed and checked out the closets. The gowns were just like the ones I had growing up with dad. I couldn't help but smile. I picked out an off the shoulder rose pink gown to wear for dinner in 30 minutes. I couldn't reach the back few buttons to close the gown so I let my hair down to cover it. With a knock at the door, a servant came in to escort me to dinner.
Entering the dining room I heard music playing in the background with a grand table full of tens of dishes. I smelt well roasted chicken, apple pie, potatoes, garlic and so many other spices and foods. My stomach rumbled at such divine smells. As I approached the table, I was greeted by a warm smile. "Hey" he said, putting his hand forward. I placed mine in his. "Damon." He said as he leaned in to kiss my hand.
"Tara" I replied. "But I think you knew that? I heard you say it this morning before I fainted. How?"
"You told me in your sleep" he responded before slipping his hands around my waist and pulling me in for a dance. Everything else - the smells and the cold all faded from consciousness as my breasts pushed up tightly against his chest so that I could feel his heart beat. My waist rubbed against his torso as we moved around the room. Our eyes fixed in each other's. I could spend an eternity gazing into those ocean deep eyes. My hormones buzzed as I felt his hands move down lower from my waist as my heart skipped a beat. "You look stunning" he whispered in my ear before kissing my cheek. His hands traced the buttons of my gown, up to the few I had left undone. He placed my hair to the side, embraced me in his arms and did up the buttons for me. I could smell his cologne, it reminded me of hot chocolate and marshmallows on a rainy day. We just stood there for a while. His arms engulfing my petite body. I trusted him. I felt safe. "Let's have dinner" he said as he let go of me and walked towards the table. I was lost for words. I was shaking, blushing and just a hot mess. "Yes" I pathetically replied before sitting in the chair he had pulled out for me. My hunger suddenly quenched, I felt butterflies in my stomach but not like how I imagined them. I felt like throwing up. I couldn't handle how he made me feel. Is this love? After dinner, Damon retreated into his room. I still had a lot of energy buzzing in my body so I decided to put on a heavy coat I found in the closet and take a trip through the gardens. I had a lot on my mind. I felt so selfish. My mother must be so distressed. She loves me dearly, no letter or amount of reassurance from a stranger would be enough to calm her. I should have been on my way back already. But I just can't bring myself to leave. I strolled through past the trees and bushes - I missed my father, we'd always go on long walks together which constituted the few memories I have of him. So many years had gone by since dad passed away. He was shot, a bullet fired straight into his heart. The person who killed him was never found. That hurt me the most, the killer was still out there, living a happy life, while my family was torn apart and every drop of our happiness stolen. Maybe that's why I couldn't leave this place. I was genuinely happy after so long. This is how we had lived in the past. Mansions, gowns and big fancy parties. Everything was spectacular. But more than the riches, Damon did something to my heart. I'd never felt this way before. I don't want to leave him. I'm addicted to him. I guess we all get addicted to something that takes away the pain. I turned around, to go back in when I noticed that the rose that was a blooming scarlet red just this morning had dried out a little and it's colour faded. That saddened me. Walking further, I noticed something on the floor at a distance near the bush where I had first seen Damon. Reaching the spot, I got on my knees to pick it up. It was... fur? My mind raced. It can't be possible. I thought my brain was making up the whole creature thing. Damon's a human, I know that for sure. But then whose fur is this? Maybe he had a dog he shaved for some weird reason in this freezing blizzard. No, that's too cruel. I picked up the hand full of fur and headed into my room. I placed the fur inside the bedside drawer. I'd had a long day. I'll figure this out tomorrow.I took off my coat, changed into a night dress and jumped into bed. The only thing in my mind: Damon.
