JNDSD~ My take , 13TH February 2017~ heart to heart
Our bodies need over hauling or MOT, road worthiness..here world worthiness , to test its functioning from time to time .For we are a living structure gifted by a thinking mind and a live muscle that beats and keeps us alive and kicking. It goes without saying that the three work together to give us a cohesive existence. Our body is formed in such a shape that it deals with the world around us .helps us to make sense and put meaning in our existence. Our resilient bodies also protect major internal organs. Yet our body is far from permanent ,in terms of wear and tear . Both the mind can be disturbed and the heart sickened due to the one or vice versa. In such instances one needs therapy or counseling . Within our social order we tend de-stress with ones closest to us..our families, teacher ones we hold in high esteem and last but not the least our peers.. And if things get out of hand we may seek help for psychological and personal matters. The episode for me celebrates the interaction between two contemporary males whom destiny has put on earth as brothers born and bred apart, yet today hurled before each other to sort some matters of the mind and heart..
Seeing them together in the same frame makes me think.. they add flavor to each other. Each teases the honest truth out of each other. Perhaps it's the art of questioning that removes awkwardness between them. Ravish relies on his professional ability of interrogation. Given the fact that the scenario of being the interrogator or the interrogated is not entirely new to him. Still he ensures in this sensitive situation that he wastes no time and gets to the point .. the crux of what causes Atharv to doubt Vividha? To a somber Atharv, this is Ravish ,his captain.. his brother ,his rival in love.. well Atharv too is not one to mince his words. If he is being asked for the cause? Then he would tell Ravish straight, somehow their unlived ,untested bond between them girds Atharv into telling Ravish as it is... gives instance where his mind and heart both wondered, about why Vividha about to be married to him.. gives personalized clues.eg carries Ravish s picture in her wallet! scribes his name in the dry rice platter. Atharv's confession or accusation ,or justification for his doubts? He throws Ravish .. Atharv also points out she gives the impression of missing her mangulsutra ,sindoor.. references to her marriage to Ravish! And here he claims she doesn't think about ! I would give credit to Atharv for coming out with precisely how he feels, and I suspect Ravish too values his honesty ..only then can they make head way towards finding solutions. To me it's like a counseling session where Ravish poses the question and Atharv gives answers. I feel both the brothers give and take a little..of information sharing learn a bit more about each other. Perhaps earn each others respect too. Ravish brushes off Atharv's admissions aside and retorts.. what did Vividha tell him, he is sure she never lies. Atharv too confesses his issue which was that Vividha told him that she didn't feel that way about Ravish, as he understands it to be. Ravish , explains ,if Atharv refuses to take her word for it, then the chances are that his loves appear shaky.. very shaky. Sensing he may be tough in his approach he softens and gives his brother a useful tip... that not everyone is blessed to find true love..and when one does , it needs to be held onto! Atharv , reads between the lines and senses Ravish's loss of having to give up Vividha.. Ravish instead turns it around to Atharv questions the strength of his love. Atharv retorts his love is not weak in anyway! but adds , he knows Vividha all to well he can see through her feelings. Atharv also quite openly confesses before Ravish that things may have changed in the three months, when he was unaware of time. Ravish can spot his brother's diffidence. and hastens to correct him.. nothing has changed.. all is the same except for his thinking ,his perception has changed it was almost a protest from Ravish. He explains the sequence , yes Vividha put up at the Vashist house...as his wife , but only to wait for Atharv's return! Atharv feels he's at a loss to explain what unhinges him.. to me it's the fact that she stayed with Ravish as his wife? For he has a point, anything could have transpired between Vividha and Ravish.. he knows he loves Vividha , yet he struggles to blot out the gap of three months of his life ! even Ravish s words of hanging onto true love gives him an inkling into how Ravish feels about Vividha... Ravish decides to go in he said enough to Atharva, he probably thinks, hopefully Atharv will mull over his words.. be gratified that he has found his true love. but Atharv perceives the advice as rolling it over to Ravish's way its him who is lucky , as he is the one to gain true love !...that love that Atharv see's through his eyes ..the love Vividha shows in her mannerisms towards Ravish!
A new day dawns.. one family decides to return back to the place where they belong. Atharv checks if the women have packed. He stares at Vividha , looks out for any traces of regret at living Ravish s house.. instead he gets a dead blank look from her, not even a smile yes!we are going home.. as for Ravish he is on a roll.. full on positivity and why ever not? he retrieved a situation from going haywire ! or is he trying to put lid over something? Well whatever it is ? it will not be hidden from Atharv's eyes as nothing of his is hidden from Ravish's searching eyes.. Suman wants to know what the decor is for?? before Ravish can reply properly to his mother , he has to question, stop and command his other family from leaving for Ajmer.. and when Atharv insists they must, he jumps the surprise on his mother ,one to all present in context... as he commands, no one is going anywhere, the wedding cannot go ahead without the groom! Yes he is about to do a fine and right job! besides he is fulfilling the promise he made to Vividha, that he would get her married her to Atharv ! His older brother will get married in this very Vashist household, along with Vividha's sendoff!before any one can utter a word.. to all its clear that Ravish ensured that his lawyer turns up with the divorce papers to complete formalities !
Atharv only has eyes for Vividha's expression.. any signs of giving off signals of regret.. or joy..but Atharv notes Vividha gives away nothing. She is calm as a cucumber ,while Ravish is preoccupied with the decorations, the setting of the mandap .. this is a forced ceremony and Atharv can see it.. he can see when Ravish cajoles Vividha and choses a sari yet says , her selection is one Atharv will surely like... it's like Ravish out of good will forces Atharv upon Vividha..or is Ravish showing Vividha support in what she wanted ? Atharv watches and tries to make sense..? Atharv also takes into account the mother who stands behind her son's back.. understanding her son Ravish's well concealed hurt.. for me this scene is probably the one that spoke to Atharv the most..in terms of a son's smart and disappointment . Surely this is the scene in which he identifies with Ravish and has compassion for him, not just as his brother but as a human being..a widow mother and a fatherless lad..was he not like Ravish in times of great disillusionment? And the countless times his mother consoled him ? held him upright like ravish's mother does so now? Suddenly to me, Atharv bears no grudge against anyone.. he only identifies and perhaps wonders how much and how long for will Suman and Ravish suffer in silence on account of what is about too happen? A tear escapes from Sujata's sons eyes..
The lawyer arrives with the divorce papers .. things are pretty definite. Atharv watches Vividha what she does will put his mind at rest. Funnily Ravish yet again has to coerce her to sign..he reminds her and perhaps Atharv too, that time makes us wait. But time in actual fact waits for none and moves on so grab the moment as the wait is over! Just sign... and Atharv watches Vividha sign her life off from Ravish's life and sign's into his life! .. but when it comes to Ravish turn.. the pen runs out of ink... does Atharv see this act as a symbol of his brother's dithering of letting off Vividha..? for Atharv now it's not about how Vividha feels about Ravish ,but now it's about how Ravish feels about vividha?
Thus when Ravish opts to go to his room with the divorce papers to sign with a pen that actually works.. Atharv follows him and sees Ravish struggling to sign on the dotted line.. he cannot hold his piece and asks Ravish why is doing this? rather forcing himself .. Ravish replies, one doesn't really need a sound reason to commit an act of goodness! Well Atharv too is his blood and he states ,seems you have measured your smarting in terms of virtue or vice.. pray tell him, by what standard should he gauge his guilt? Ravish turns from his desk and just stares gob smacked! at his rival in love ..his half brother Atharv..
For me a fine episode , engaging interaction between the two brothers.Each say what they have to.. especially Atharv, although he seems preoccupied with how Ravish and his mother Suman feel about his forthcoming marriage to Vividha .. he brims with compassion , identifies with another's suffering, especially for ones in hopeless situations. Dialogues were well written and rendered between the two brothers. Vividha makes her choice as expected.. although at one point I felt here we go ..she's being cajoled into signing ..but I do have faith in her,she knew always her love is Atharv eternally! what?? Atharv has a fall! Just before his marriage to Vividha!... is the fall an accident ? or contrived ? to move himself out of Ravish's way..? and grant him his true love?? Hamlet53 14.2.17
