Why does Anika never stand up for herself?

Why does Anika go on staying at the Oberoi house despite all the humiliation and insults she has to suffer daily?
I thought her character was supposed to be modern and independent?

Obviously for the plot.

If Anika opened her mouth, Pinky and Tej would have been silenced. Anika's attitude is on the same level as Shivaay's. And Shivaay's word in OM is practically absolute. If Anika is truly equal to that of Shivaay and can panga with him, you could imagine how easily she could take on the entire Oberoi family.

Yeah for the blody sake of trp jo ke a bhi nahi rahi hai I want shivika scenes this hole week was fAmily drama I m loosing intrest shivaye now days is yelling on Anika he is so rude with her

Because it's Gul Khan's show where heroines have no self-respect and turns doormat once they call fall in love😡. This is the same with her every show except her youth shows heroines Sia, Suvreen n Vaibhabi.
