When I was looking at movies from 90's, I realized that there were other stars like Govinda, Anil, Jackie who were making strides in the industry. Now I can see why they did not have staying power. Apart from Anil, the other two are bust. What I am interested is how did the khans connect so well with audience.

Seeing how the younger actors are struggling to reach hit, let alone super hits, Khans seemed to have magically developed formula to take over Bollywood from older generation. Why did Akki (yum looking) and Ajay (good actor-fighter) did not make it at the same level. What distinguished these trio?

What was is it that they had, that younger generation or their contemporaries lacked?

Srk connected straight away as a villain in Baazigar and Darr, where the fans rooted for him even thought he was a villain, and DDLJ came.. and well, everyone fell in love with him. He owned the 90's.

Salman was similar, His debut in MPK and then again in 'HAHK. Not to mention he was possibly the best actor in comedies after Govinda like in Judwaa. Oh and he had a great body so the girls loved him.

Aamir wasn't as loved as them two in the 90's, though he did hit it big QSQT and then again with Rajah Hindustani.

Bollywood's favourite genre in the 90's was romance/family dramas

i would not say that only khans but every bollywood entry were connected

you can see the number of flops akshay had given during that time and number of hits sunil shetty had given...

90s generation accommodated all actors...

there was only one superstar at tat time the Timeless magic of AB...

its during or after DDLJ that i see people went hayware specially the girls absolutely crazy of BW stars...

i still remember during schooling... i heard convo between two teenage girl one was asked where she wants to go to honeymoon and she promptly replied paris or swizz and i came in middle of that girls and asked her do you know UK and she said it may be in uae 🤣🤣

I agree it was a different time then and people loved them. As of now most people grew up with them and watched them during their younger days also. So they are familiar with LOTS of people. Each have great movies too.

In the 90's movies were main source of entertainment, although there was cable TV, there were'nt too many channels. Movies that ran, ran for a long time...

SRK --- by romancing, his wit, his passion.
Salman --- dunno.. he just has the personality.
Aamir --- in his younger days because he was cute/good at acting, later days because, he's smart and all that.

Actually, in the 90s, most LOVE stories starred Khans, sensational love stories that were a success with beautiful music - that is why, IMO.

1)Lack of Competition!

When they debuted, Bachchan was on his way out, there were two superstars Sunny Deol & Sanjay Dutt. Dutt went to Jail, Sunny whipped them a few times but he was done and dusted by 2003 too. There was nobody else.

2) Multiplex + NRI boom- As multiplexes starting dominating as well as the Overseas market grew bigger, so did the Khans. The bigger cities connected more with the urbane Khan films than what the other stars were doing at the time.

In short, Timing is everything.
