PADMAVATI ROW: KARNI SENA SLAMS SANJAY LEELA BHANSALI, DEMANDS FILM'S NAME BE CHANGED TO RATAN SINGH

Days after activists of the Karni Sena attacked Sanjay Leela Bhansali on the Jaipur sets of Padmavati, their head has now kept a new demand in front of the filmmaker: change the name of the film from Padmavati to Ratan Singh.
At a joint press conference on Monday, Shobha Sant, CEO of Bhansali Productions assured the people once again that there is no romantic or objectionable sequence between Rani Padmavati and Alauddin Khilji in the film and there never was such a scene in the script from the start. "There is no question of agreeing on anything since it wasn't there in the first place. We have referred to history books and historians and then made this film. We will make a film that will make India proud. We want to bring Rani Padmavati's courageous nature in front of the entire world," she said.
However, during the press conference, state president of Karni Sena Mahipal Singh announced that they have a new demand: Bhansali should call the film Ratan Singh and a screening committee should be allowed to watch the film before it releases.
Shoba agreed that this demand was not made initially by the group. Members of the Rajput Sabha had visited the Bhansali offices in November, Shoba recalled, and the team had assured them that there was nothing objectionable in the script. The group had left satisfied, she said. This demand of a change in name was never discussed.
Singh agreed that changing the name of the film from Padmavati to Ratan Singh was a new demand but added, "This is the demand of the youth in the community. The entire country is protesting against it. This demand has come from other parts of the state. We want to convey this demand to Mr Bhansali via his CEO."
Padmavati tells the story of Rajput queen Rani Padmavati (played by Deepika Padukone), who is married to the king Raja Rawal Ratan Singh (Shahid Kapoor). However, her beauty attracts the attention of Alauddin Khilji (Ranveer Singh) and his desire to have her results in a bloodbath.
