Noir in Bollywood

Why can't Bollywood make noirs like The Maltese falcon, The Mask of Dimitrios or The Big Sleep. It doesn't take much money to make them. And we do have young actors who have the talent. With few judicious tweaks they can be made Bollywood friendly.

Looking good is not enough for film noir nor is big budget necessary... Solid acting, direction above all writing is necessary? Who could play Femme Fatale so convincingly here? I bet many would say Ms. Ranaut 😆

Engaging storyline with subtlelity instead of nautanki is essential which is not common here

Can you imagine film noir with song and dance?

I got tired of that genre but recently watched "The woman in the window(1944)" which restored my faith :-)

In BW can Ittefaq be considered a film noir?

Kaun was a decent attempt. I agree the studios should revive certain genres as small budget films.

We don't have dearth of any acting talent.

@Betty: I wasn't talking about physically good. 😳 But that they can look nave and fit the mood. Femme Fatale can be played by Sona, Kangana, Aditi...

I was looking at Sid and thought he looked capable and yet nave. Ittefaq is film noir but it is revisit. Why not do something that has not been done in Bollywood.

Song nahi re baba. And yet Raj khosla could do them with flair.😆

In the original ittefaq - Nanda made a great femme fatale... She used to do good girls, demure roles usually... Hope they don't ruin it

We were talking about 'Bichhoo' (which was inspired by The professional) in bobby deal thread, that could be a good example. Rani made a good FF

Noir needs solid script. BW has actors to act in such movies but we don't have writers. They will have to steal the plot from some where and now a days it's not easy to go unnoticed .

Kangana, Alia , Radhika , Swara , Konkona and many other actress can pull it off.
Ranbir will kill it . Rajneeti and a few seconds of psycho in ADHM and all those mirror scenes in Tamasha were scary as hell .

Apparently significant changes are being made to the original Ittefaq story and the twist will be different.

If it is true, then the makers could just go with a fresh name rather than calling it a remake. 😕
