Few things of this serial which did not gel well with me as a history lover and viewer (though i watch the serial only for Rajat's performance) :
APARNA'S FREQUENT VISITS TO MAGADH : Aparna was the wife of Seleucus who worked as a GENERAL under Alexander, and became KING - only after Alexander's death. So, Helena already became Queen of Magadh in her teens while her mother Aparna, became Queen only in her middle age (story so far, as per the serial).
Aparna keeps telling Helena that she is the most favourite queen of her husband Seleucus. Then, Why would Aparna want to stay away from her husband and lose her power of the QUEEN and MOST FAVOURITE WIFE (a new-found luxury that she experienced in her middle age) just to travel all the way to Pataliputra to play with her daughter's sauten ? I believe that it would have taken months to travel from Macedonia to Pataliputra for a single trip. And here we see Aparna visiting Helena often in the serial.
HELENA WITH APARNA : We all know that Helena is good at playing her cards when it comes to Chandra and Nandini. Helena shares all the games that she has played with Nandini so far. So, the mother knows how her daughter is. But the serial keeps showing Helena like an innocent kitten in front of Aparna, which is quite frustrating.
If Aparna is scheming against Nandini, it is only for the benefit of her daughter Helena. Then why Aparna keeps hiding her scheme plans and its direct consequences on Chandra to her daughter? After all, Aparna's sole purpose of visit is to train Helena to become the most favourite queen of Chandra. If she's going to hide her tricks of trade, how will the daughter learn from her ?
SUNANDA'S PARTNERSHIP WITH APARNA : Sunanda, con-queen of Nand (with information that Nand, the King in exile, is still alive) could carry out her work inside the palace comfortably through her most loyal attendants. She was doing well so far without anybody's support in creating a rift between Chandni through Roopa. If she does need external support, she should have sought Pattrani Helena. After all, Queen Helena has current control within the Palace, on Magadh as Pattrani, and has greek support through her parents. And Sunanda knows very well about the hatred that Helena has towards Nandini.
Then why on earth, did she seek help from Aparna ? Aparna could give her greek support but would not have DIRECT control within Palace and on Magadh. Aparna, too, would have to depend on her daughter Helena to carry out the scheme. Then why the long route ?
ONE MAN ARMY : During Nand's reign, As per the Serial, you could see lots of Soldiers and Daasis in the fort. Scene examples are : when chandra enters Magadh in Malayketu's disguise for Swayamvar, court room when Nand whips Chandra, Chandra taken to karavas, Chandra capturing Nandini in her bathroom in front of all Daasis (and yeah, Nand and his soldiers too), Chandra escaping fort, Chandra entering Magadh as a Brahman for Nandini's marriage with Malay, Chandra using his powder to make the soldiers in the corridor faint so that he can go to Karavas to meet his foster parents, etc. Even when Chandra visits Nandini's chamber in anger (right after he comes to know that he is CHANDRAGUPT MAURYA, son of Suryagupt), there are 2 Daasis shown waiting outside her chamber. Nandini, during her pre-marriage days, was always surrounded by Daasis, friends and Bhabhis. Nand is shown with Amatya Rakshas and soldiers at his disposal even when he is drinking and enjoying with Daasis.
But ever since Chandra became Magadh's emperor, all the Soldiers and Daasis have gone on long leave !!!! The corridors, door entrance, court room, palace entrance - all are shown empty. A king should atleast, have Announcers saying "Rajmata padhar rahi hi" etc. Here we see Dadhi, Helena, her mother Aparna, Moora, Durdhara - all walk in and out of the King's Chamber on free will as if the palance is a small 1 BHK apartment !! Prime Minister Chanakya is missing in most of the scenes. Even court room scenes have been done away with.
So, ultimately its our Chandra amongst all ladies - single man managing both kitchen politics and kingdom politics alike !! Take a bow Rajat.
NO SPY NETWORK : Chandra took Nandini just once to bath, that too, in the wee hours of morning, and Daasis were seen gossiping about it. Chandra took Nandini in his arms to tend to her knees, and the news reached Helena in no time. Chandra took Nandini to Balgram once and the news reached Helena, Malay and even Nand.
But, our indian hulk Malay walks in and out of Nandini's room without a single Daasi / Soldier noticing it and reporting to Chandra - ever !! Maurya was known for his wide spy network. Is Ekta going to show that Maurya created Spy-Network and Women-Warriors only after watching Nandini and Malay's extramarital relationship ??
