Salman fans say that his movies work only because of him but that's not the case. He needs masala genre+ holiday release to give a big hit. Jai Ho and PRDP Are examples of that. But masala movies aren't universal like content based movies. So class audience rejects Sallu's movies. On the other hand, Aamir movies are universal and watched by all sections of audience and that's why they became ATHG, while Salman fails doing it. When people started rejecting brainless masala movies, Sallu tried to copy Aamir and made Bajrangi Bhaijaan but due to competition from Baahubali, he again failed to beat Aamir.

Chennai Express actually beated 3 Idiots only because of high ticket prices and more number of screens.
