Life's definitions

"Do u even get time to work?" Vinod Chopra, Greg's Dad looked baffled

The men leaned over the clear fibreglass waist length balcony wall sipping beer

The kids slugged each other out

R&B's eyes glued on his 13 year old daughter, she was almost fully clothed, the sprinklers were on, his 4 chased Greg.
Macy and her brother chased Nivi

II was not back from work yet

The dogs took sides depending on where their chances to live were stronger. James avoiding Sahana as much as could

"Oh yeah I get time to work" R&B chuckled

"I cant imagine running behind 4 kids" Vinod said in awe

"They can be a handful... umm... when we only had Nivi we thought she was the worst, the boys came along and taught
the definition of a riot, and now we learn about anarchy and arson from Sahana" he said it with a straight face

Greg laughed uncontrallbly

"We learn as we go. There is no guide book" he said under his breath

He found Greg holding Nivi's hand as they fled the chasers looking for a spot to hide

It rankled him to see Greg holding her hand like that

She seemed to be holding it with comfort and ease

"Is tomm a school day?" he gently poked Vinod

Vinod was too engrossed in what the twins were doing he didnt respond, his phone beeped too so he started texting with a faint "Excuse me"

"Nivi, nope not behind that hedge, Mavvy found a lizard remember?" R&B hollered

Nivi froze looking up

Not so gently extricating her hand from Gregor's grip

"Umm... they keep spraying us Daddd" she insisted

Sahana dropped a water balooon on Nivi's foot, splattt

It was filled with purple dye

"Not behind that hedge love" R&B said coldly not meeting Greg's eyes

"can we go to the backayrd Mr Bhalla?" he asked earnestly

"Nope... I dont think so" he said like whiplash.

"Nivi Amma's on her way home, can u go wash up please?" he instructed

"Dadddeee" she shouted

"Nivi" he admonished in his quiet firm style

She quietened... sulking instead

The boys were opening the human gate and targeting the guards... or the help...

Macy whispered something in Nivi's ear
"dad, can we go to Sam Athai's? for just an hour and wash off in her pool?" Nivi hollered

"Umm... no" he said

The car gate opened... II's car drove in

"I am taking Greg golfing Sunday, do u want to send Nivi?" Vinod asked smiling and nodding politely as a help handed some snacks
Vinod waved at II

The kids plastered themselves on her... al except Nivi ofcourse

Even Macy's 8 year old brother gave II a tight hug

The dogs complained, James favoring his left side line of vision

They looked like a tie and dye dupatta... both of them

"Yaar vara sonna rendu perayum velila?"(who asked u to come out?) she asked James, kissing him

"Oh but... oh but... ur daughter temoted us" they proclaimed

"Then dont whine" she ordered

"Yennadi laddooo... ivlav color?" (so many colors?) she asked Sahana as she waddled looking very much like the puppies

The older ones colluded and hatched another plan

the men were down by now

R&B kissed II boldly on her lips "Later than usual?" he complained

"I wanted to be even later, Amma is not home, so u got lucky" she said

"Hey Vinod" she smiled
He gave hera polite hug

"I asked him if he ever works"

"I support the family why do u think I got late?" she winked

R&B chuckled

"Can they go golfing tomm?" Vinod asked quickly

R&B looked pissed
II looked at him

"SAY NO" was clearly writ across his face

"Its a school day" she said

"Oh yeah ofcourse, they dont have 7th and 8th period" Vinod said, obviously more well informed than II was

R&B was a lil rattled when he assumed Vinod might actually be plotting to make Nivi-Gregor dating easier

"Huh... II did u know this?" he asked impatiently

"I havent looked at her diary this week da... the chain of ear infections" II squirmed "As if we dont have enough kids we have two dogs,
Sahana poked James in the eye with a straw, and it got infected.

"Ouch" Vinod exclaimed

II nodded

"So its a yes for tomorrow?"

"Umm... I might be able to take off a couple hours, I might go too" R&B smugly said turning and eyeing Greg & Nivi
Damnnn!! he muttered under his breath
Their hands were back being held together... Nivi chattering animatedly as Gregor listened carefully
It felt like a blow to his gut

This is a serious blow coming his way!!

Possessiveness is good but I think dude is going over board
I don't think nivi will feel good bout it and it would not be nice if she revolt or ask him to not follow her

This is a riot in creative writing as well. Some of the best lines in fiction that I've read in recent times. And I realize that for some , there's no guide book reqd to this as well and the learning's only getting good on the go Nisha
👏 True we fall in love at regular intervals with the tale and the falling in love over again extends to Nisha's writing as well at regular intervals.

Anarchy and Arson as Learnng from Sahana. In a way it's an oxymoron in my head cos in a non regulated state , her subjects are loyal to their leader , royalty, Her HIGHNESS SAHANA.

Not Arson ...but she's a NATURAL WILDFIRE that's reqd in an INFLAMMABLE PLANET such as MM. Would love to read sometime the possessive Daddee try some of the games he plays with Nivi as regards to Greg.

BTW if all possessive Fathers are doting Daddees , I'm trying to figure how a doting Daddee tag would attach itself to the appa in Sri Visvanatha Iyer's face at the moment...and I'm rolling and my stomach's kind of exploded laughing out loud . Jeez, this is crazy

Left in and Left out and Life's directions were awesome updates and loved reading the spontaneous responses that the update drew out of Ashu, Nouf, sonal and Sri in their comments. Thanks for the follow up update as well.

Mothers, most endearing bridge reqd when there's a reprimand from the other parent. That batting for me kiss from a husband to wife has got to be the best amongst the kisses that these two have shared.
Nivi seeks reassurance from her amma this time. Life's coming a full circle for Ranjan Bhalla with his son warming up to him and his grand children doting on him.

Left in and Left out was as warm as the chocalate milk they drank packed in with lots of flavor and nutrients... protein, calcium, and vitamins needed for high endurance after the tough workout that Sahana gave them all.

I noticed when I read the first time that she deliberately left out Dude in the list and after four kids, she still uses every opportunity to provoke him. She brings out her charm and sense of humor in full flow when she talks to outsiders like Greg's dad Vinod.

Coming to think of it as this is a Vella Sunday for me( hope you get the hint Nisha ) their continued pretence of not acknowledging I'm 'only yours ' tag, he in his cards not signing the notes attached with bouquets or books and She deliberately leaving him out in her list for ex ... it's their way of flirting with each other all these years to keep it alive that's the USP of their married life that keeps them going.

But for other couples, that wait of earning that ultimate acknowledgement over the years could be tiresome. It's like what the heck... why can't they just simply declare it loud and be done ... they are II and Dude and games they play are those hard.
