One of the most common New Year's resolutions is to lose weight, go to the gym and get fit; though many of these aspirations fall a little short! As such, January is often one of the busiest periods for personal trainers! Personal Trainer Awareness Day aims to highlight not only how busy trainers are during January, but also to highlight how much more chance you can have of sticking to your exercise and weight loss routines if you retain a personal trainer, and show some love and appreciation to all the personal trainers our there that have helped us change our lives for the better and make resolutions reality!

History of Personal Trainer Awareness Day

At the beginning of the 2000's, two fitness professionals named Jim Labadie and Joey Atlas took a look at the surge of people signing up to the gym in hopes of fulfilling their New Year's Resolutions of losing those few pounds, and then they looked at the personal trainers, whose lives become completely swamped with work at that time, and they decided it was time to say thank you. Personal Trainer Awareness Day was born out of what the pair deemed necessary in order to say thanks to all of the personal trainers of the world whose lives are turned nearly upside down at the beginning of January every year in order to help the rest of us reach our fitness goals. When you are exercising with a personal trainer, Labadie and Atlas said, it may indeed seem to you like you're the one doing all the work, but it takes plenty of planning, analyzing and consideration on the part of the personal trainer to make sure your hard work amounts to something in the end. Personal Trainer Awareness Day is the day to say thank you!

How to Celebrate Personal Trainer Awareness Day

Take the chance Personal Trainer Awareness Day offers you to show your appreciation to your personal trainer for all he or she has helped you achieve over the months or even years that you've been working together. If you have a workout on that day, be sure to try extra hard to show your personal trainer how seriously you take his or her advice; you may not see it this way, but when you slack off it may well demotivate your personal trainer and make him or her feel like all of his or her planning and advice is being disregarded. You should also take a moment or two at the end of the training session to say a nice thing or two about how well your personal trainer does his or her job, and how much he or she has been able to positively impact your life with his or her instruction. If you've lost some weight under the instruction of your personal trainer, or have managed to regain your pre-pregnancy look or the form you had before an injury, tell your him or her about it! It will only take a minute or two, but saying something like that is sure to make his or her day! A personal trainer's goal is to help you, so we should let them know they've done just that!

Personal trainers are of then the unsung heroes of the fitness world. Be sure to show your personal trainer how happy you are to have the opportunity to work with them this Personal Trainer Awareness Day!

Breaking the speed limit is probably one of the more common ways people break the law. Not only is it easy to do, but there always seems to be a good reason for ityou can't afford to be late for work again, your plane is taking off in half and hour, or the store is closing in just a few short minutes and you really, really need that yoghurt for breakfast tomorrow. Whatever people's reasons for speeding may be, the unfortunate truth is that we do it way too often, especially considering that most car accidents are caused by speeding. So maybe it's time to obey the speed limit for a change?

History of 55 mph Speed Limit Day

The national 55 mph speed limit made the law by President Nixon on Jan. 2, 1974. The idea behind the law was to improve driving efficiency. The move was also made in direct response to a dispute with OPEC (The Organization for Petroleum Exporting Countries) that had led to an oil embargo on the US.

The law required all of the states to comply with the 55 mph (90 km/h) limit in order to qualify for federal funds for highway projects. The law ended up being wildly unpopular, however, leading to the actual enforcement of the law being lax or practically non-existent. Studies conducted at the time found that over 80% of drivers violated the speed limit on many roads anyway. Some states, such as Nevada and Arizona, went as far as to pass that replaced speeding tickets with "energy wasting fines of $5-15 that nobody took seriously, for various reasons.

In pop culture, the number 55 also became a popular shorthand for the speed limit. As an example, a hand with a pair of fives in Texas hold'em poker is referred to as a "speed limit, which shows just how much impact the 55 mph speed limit had on the world.

How to Celebrate 55mph Speed Limit Day

Maybe the speed limit id not 55 mph anymore, and that's likely a good thing, as reducing it to this amount did not really do anyone a particular amount of good. Still, though, this could be the right day day to make a commitment that you will not exceed the speed limit, no matter the situation. The truth is that the speed limit is how much it is for a reason: driving faster could pose serious danger to both you and other drivers on the road. Also, take the time to educate your family and friends about the dangers of not paying attention to safety issues in the car. Make sure your children understand just how much a seat belt could help them in the case of an accident; that a seat belt could, in fact, save their life. Never let anyone who is even the least bit intoxicated drive, even if they've "only had one beer. Make sure your close ones know that driving when physically tired is as dangerous as driving drunk, and that falling to sleep behind the wheel causes thousands of deaths per year. Also, make sure to emphasize how important it is to make sure your car is checked and services regularly and that all of the functions and devices in it responsible for your safety in case of an accident are working properly.

The speed limit may not be 55 mph anymore, but 55 mph Speed Limit Day is still a good time to think about road safety.

History of Motivation and Inspiration Day

Even though to many, January 2nd is in fact just about finally getting over your New Year's Party hangover, the history of Motivation and Inspiration day is much more somber. National Motivation & Inspiration Day was passed by The United States Congress on December 18th, 2001, after the tragic events of September 11th, 2001. That was when Kevin L. McCrudden became the first and so far only motivational and leadership speaker to ever have had such a day passed by Congress, acknowledging the importance of "motivation and "inspiration in our daily lives. After the tragedy that was September 11th, 2001, McCrudden felt that all Americans needed something to remind them that there were still many things to live on for. The reality was bleak at that time, and many people felt sad, scared or lostespecially those whose family members or friends had gotten killed suddenly in the World Trade Center attacks of just a few months before. McCrudden originally intended for this day to be dedicated to helping people become the best they can be and maximize their potential through the creation of annual goals. The idea caught on quite quickly, and Motivation and Inspiration Day is now celebrated in different places across the world as well as in the United States, encouraging people everywhere to change their lives for the better.
