2. Dangal
Dangal' has turned out to be what exactly we all had expected from an Aamir Khan movie- the best which was reserved for the last! This big ticket movie is busy winning hearts, and shattering box office records!
3. Dear Dad
Exploring the dynamics of a father-son relationship and presenting the sensitive topic of homosexuality in a delightful manner made Arvind Swamy's comeback movie a wonderful watch!
4. Dishoom
India loves Entertainment via Movies and Cricket. And when you have an entertaining movie with cricket as its core theme, the nation is bound to go crazy over this John Abraham-Jacqueline Fernandez starrer which was all about Varun Dhawan's entertaining act.
5. Waiting
A beautiful slice-of-life saga dealing with the most complicated subject of our times - LIFE. And when you have natural performers like Naseeruddin Shah and Kalki Koechlin on-board, lauding the film and the performances becomes a must!
6. Dhanak
In 2016, we saw Nagesh Kukunoor weave his magic all over again with Dhanak'. A small move with a big heart is what best describes this colorful journey through Rajasthan! While we had the two protagonists rooting for their favorites Shah Rukh and Salman Khan throughout the film, Krrish Chhabria and Hetal Gada ensured we fall in love with their performances instead.
7. Nil Battey Sannata
Here's another small film with a big heart that managed to make a place for itself in our hearts! Right from the performances by Swara Bhaskar and Ria Shukla to the wonderful direction by Ashwini Iyer Tiwari, Nil Battey Sannata' left us asking for more...along with a little inclination towards Maths! *winks*
8. Pink
Undoubtedly the most talked-about Bollywood film of 2016. With its thought-provoking content, dialogues and power-packed performances by Amitabh Bachchan, Taapsee Pannu and Kirti Kulhari, Pink' made sure everyone takes a note of the message it had to give out to the society!
9. Happy Bhag Jayegi
A complete delight to watch, Happy Bhag Jayegi' was nothing but pure fun! No wonder, the viewers have given this Diana Penty, Jimmy Sheirgill and Abhay Deol starrer comic caper loads of CLAPS!
10. M.S. Dhoni: The Untold Story
Just the way Mahendra Singh Dhoni delivers match-winning knocks, Sushant Singh Rajput delivered a heart-winning knock as he brought the Indian skipper to life on the big screens. Cherry on the top was the current so-called "Crush of The Nation" Disha Patani...*winks*
11. Airlift
Best performance by Akshay Kumar till date. Period.
12. Neerja
No other film, other than Ram Madhvani's Neerja', could have given a better tribute to brave-heart Neerja Bhanot. Plus, we were also given an opportunity to meet Sonam Kapoor- the actress!
13. Madaari
Compelling direction, powerful storyline every common man can relate with, and terrific performances by Irrfan Khan and Jimmy Sheirgill = CLAPS!
14. Housefull 3
Akshay Kumar, Riteish Deshmukh and Abhishek Bachchan's Housefull 3' acted as the true-blue stress buster for the aam junta who remain busy with their school/college/office life throughout the week. After all, nothing beats a good dose of laughter.
15. Dear Zindagi
Watching Shah Rukh Khan in a matured avatar minus his SRK-isms was a delight in itself. Add to it Alia Bhatt's heart-winning performance and Gauri Shinde's slice-of-life style narration. This beautiful film made everyone out there say "Love You Zindagi!"
16. Rustom
With Rustom' Akshay Kumar proved that he's the latest superstar in B-town to possess the Midas touch! Yet another 100 Crore movie for the Khiladi, yet another movie that received CLAPS from all quarters.
17. Kapoor & Sons
Here's the film that changed the face of Indian cinema in several ways. Not only did it break the stereotype by presenting a homosexual character (marvelously essayed by Fawad Khan) as a lead in a matured manner, it also broke free from the routine and clichd showcase of a dysfunctional Punjabi family and presented a rather natural version of a family which every middle class family could relate with!
18. Udta Punjab
Several controversies and proposed cuts later released this movie which dealt with the problem of drugs in Punjab. A complete departure from the otherwise commercial potboilers, Udta Punjab; dared to be different and present its 4 protagonists (Shahid Kapoor, Alia Bhatt, Kareena Kapoor Khan and Diljit Dosanjh) in completely different avatars.
19. Ae Dil Hai Mushkil
A typical Karan Johar movie which became an instant favorite amongst the audiences who live on Bollywood films! Right from Ranbir Kapoor's charming act, Anushka Sharma's jaw-dropping performance, soothing songs, couple of wonderful cameos, and the sizzling Aishwarya Rai Bachchan- Ae Dil Hai Mushkil' made it difficult for its competitor Shivaay' to survive at the box office!
20. Azhar
For those who think there's nothing more to Emraan Hashmi than his hot lip locks, watch him essay the role of Mohammad Azharuddin with extreme conviction, and you'd come out as a fan!
21. Fan
Fan' turned out to be hollow in terms of its storyline and direction. But for Shah Rukh Khan fans, this was exactly the movie they had been waiting for - the movie which proved that Khan still has it in him to seal the lips of his critics with his superlative performances! As Aryan, he showcased a darker shade of the superstar that he is. And as Gaurav, the Fan, he won hearts; making it the best performance of the year.
22. Baaghi
Tiger Shroff showing the potential of being the next big superstar with his romance, action sequences and dialoguebaazi was enough to pull the crowds to the cinema halls. Plus, when you have the gorgeous Shraddha Kapoor in a movie, there's no chance you leave the theatre without feeling lovestruck.
We hope that 2017 too would turn out to be equally an amazing year for Bollywood, in terms of filmmaking more than the commerce of the films!
