DP Prepones XXX Release Fearing SRK-HR's Mvs; Nw clash W/OKJ

All Deepika Padukone fans can finally rejoice as they'll get to see the Hollywood debut of their favourite actress a little earlier than it was planned. xXx: Return Of Xander Cage is gonna release in India a week before its US release. The film which was supposed to release on January 20, 2017 will now hit theatres on January 14. The film will now have a clash of sorts with Aditya Roy Kapur and Shraddha Kapoor's OK Jaanu which releases on January 13. The film will have huge competition from the second day of its release from Deepika Padukone's xXx: Return of Xander Cage. But come to think of it, the real reason for preponing the release date may be the fact that on January 25, 2017, just five days later the previous release date of the film, two of the biggest Bollywood films - Shah Rukh Khan's Raees and Hrithik Roshan's Kaabil are to hit theatres.

If that's true than this is not the first time a Hollywood film has averted a clash with a big Bollywood offering and mainly a Shah Rukh Khan starrer. During the release of Dilwale, even The Force' had to bow down to the power of SRK, as much awaited and much talked about Star Wars: Episode VII - The Force Awakens saw its release a week later in India. In fact, Hollywood's biggest hit in India, The Jungle Book too paved way for The King' when Fan was up for the release. An interesting thing to be noted here is Deepika Padukone's last offering clashed with Shah Rukh Khan's in Christmas 2015 and it was Deepika's Bajirao Mastani that won the battle eventually against SRK's Dilwale after lagging behind initially.

We just revealed to you that Deepika Padukones xXx: Return of Xander Cage will now release on January 14, 2017. The film was earlier slated to release in India on January 20, but the makers decided to prepone it by a week. This could be coz of the fact that Shah Rukh Khans Raees and Hrithik Roshan's Kaabil were going to release on January 25 and that would give xXx just a-5 day window to earn its money. So the move to January 14 is sensible, however Deepika has found herself in yet another battle. Shraddha Kapoor and Aditya Roy Kapur's OK Jaanu releases on January 13, which means xXx: Return of Xander Cage will have to fight it out with this film.

However, our trade expert - Akshaye Rathi (exhibitor and distributor) feels that this move is very smart and will benefit xXx. As Akshaye reveals to us exclusively, "It is very logical to release xXx: Return of Xander Cage with OK Jaanu because it (xXx) will get that one extended week before Raees and Kaabil take over. In fact, the clash will not affect xXx at all. This is coz OK Jaanu will primarily have a multiplex release with only a few single screens. On the other hand, xXx will go all out. They will be in the Fast & Furious mode, which released everywhere in India. So xXx will go on that route (and benefit)." But if it had released just 5 days before Raees and Kaabil, then, "It would have been a dicey scenario because the distributors of Raees and Kaabil are regular Hindi film distributors who have clout (power) like no Hollywood studio would. And then obviously it would be a road roller ride. That's why I think the Viacom (the distributors of xXx in India) guys have planned to release the movie one week earlier in India, which is a very smart move," adds Akshaye.

Less number of films clashing = More business for film

xXx is a non-franchise... Whatever appeal Vin Diesel has is limited to Fast and Furious
