Chetna-The Excitement(2005)-Jatin Grewal

Overview:

Release Date:

June 24, 2005

Genre:

Thriller

Plot Synopsis:

A number of films have narrated the story of an ambitious businesswoman falling in love with her employee, despite the fact that he happens to be a married man. In the recent past there was AITRAAZ and now CHETNA - THE EXCITEMENT.

Of course, the similarities could be a mere coincidence, but the fact remains that the two films, despite similar genre, cannot be compared because they're as diverse as chalk and cheese. In terms of performances and execution.

While the man in AITRAAZ [Akshay Kumar] doesn't give in to the temptations, the man here [Jatin Grewal] gives in to his lady-boss' demands, with the wife joining a rival firm to take the lady-boss to task and settle scores.

The motive behind CHETNA - THE EXCITEMENT is pretty evident as the story unfolds: Titillation. And there are sequences that the viewer may find 'hot'. But when viewed in totality, the outcome is plain mediocre.

Chetna [Payal Rohatgi] is a shrewd businesswoman in Dubai. She is of the firm belief that with a beautiful body, scheming mind and pots of money, a woman can get away with anything. The only mistake that these women shouldn't commit is to fall in love.

Sameer [Jatin Grewal] arrives in Dubai with his wife Aastha [Navneet Kaur] and gets a job in Chetna's company. On the first day itself, Sameer confronts Chetna with the issues plaguing the company. Chetna takes a liking for him and gets him promoted.

Later, Chetna tries to seduce Sameer, but he doesn't succumb to the temptation. In fact, Sameer decides to quit the job, but due to an undertaking while joining Chetna's company, he is unable to do so. He is left with no alternative but to comply with Chetna's physical demands.

Chetna commits the mistake of falling in love with Sameer. In the meanwhile, Sameer's wife gets to know of the extra-marital affair and decides to walk out on her husband and joins Chetna's rival [Kiran Kumar]. In the end, Aastha succeeds in ruining Chetna. It's also revealed that Sameer had been with Aastha all along and had together devised plans to ruin her.

Plot Keywords:

Business & Intrigue

Characters:

Jatin Grewal as Sameer

Navneet Kaur as Aastha

Kiran Kumar as Jairaj Mittal

Payal Rohatgi as Chetna

Manathodu Mazhaikalam-samiksha

Manathodu Mazhaikalam is a Tamil language film released in India in 2006. It stars Shaam, Nithya Das, Mamta Mohandas, Samiksha and Jayasurya

Plot

Siva (Shaam) and Sathya (Nithyadas) are collegemates. She is a good friend of Siva. She is always with him, both in his happy and sad moments. When he is in a tight corner, Sathya with the help of her father, helps Siva to come out it unscathed. Their friendship continues even after their college days. The parents of Siva and Sathya mistake their friendship as an affair. The two refuse and make it clear that they are platonic friends with oneness in their thoughts, but no plutonic thoughts!

In the course of time, Siva marries Sruthy (Samiksha) and Sathya marries Karthik (Jaya Surya). The problems and resultant consequences due to their affection for each other, forms the screenplay of the story.

Cast

Shaam - Siva
Nithya - Sathya
Samiksha - Shruthi

Review

The quality of the movie print, music, camera, etc are all just average. Nothing great shakes there. But the story is nice and so are the casting and acting. It is the story that defines that true friendship is beyond physical attraction and that a girl and a boy can share a platonic relationship.

Siva (Shaam), a very naughty college student makes friends with Sathya (Nithya), a level headed student. Siva and Sathya spend a lot of time together and hang out in college and outside all the time. This leads to a lot of people suspecting their platonic relationship as love. At the same time Shruthi (Samiksha), a fellow collegemate falls in love with Siva and openly expresses her love for him throughout the movie.

Farewell day comes and everyone moves on with their life and so does Shruthi. Siva and Sathya are in touch with each other and their parents assume that the two of them are ready to marry each other. When they propose the alliance hell breaks loose...What happens next is very predictable but nevertheless handled very beautifully.

Shaam as an old guy is not very convincing. He does not play it well and seems to be put on. But him as a college student is perfect and so is Nitya. I wish Samiksha could underplay her characters a little bit, over acting is not acting...

The movie can be described as a simple story narrated with ease. There are no high priced sets or extravagantly shot songs. In fact I can't even remember what the songs sounded like but the story still lingers in my mind. It is worth a watch with the entire family and certainly an eye opener for kids who think that a girl and boy cannot be friends.
