Heyyy new here to DM! 😃

Goshhh this is the argument i have with my cousin all the time! 😆 She lives in India, was born there, grew up there and so obv she is an Indian. But she argues that because i havnt lived in India for 5 years at a stretch im no longer Indian?! Now.. i just see that as reallyyyy bad logic! 😆 😕

I was born in India and moved to the UK when i was 4. but like lots of people have said here, ive also kept in touch with my culture - religion, clothes, food, etc. I also have an Indian Passport so I believe im an Indian. Ok.. so im an NRI - non resident Indian, but still Indian! 😃

Although, i do respect the country i live in and if i did have to choose where to live, i would choose UK simply because its a comfortable life that im used to! 😃 But still, i dont know why... whenever England play India in cricket, i support India. I want them to win only! 😃

War however... is a different matter! I hope i never have to choose between the two countries ever - one I have my roots in and one has given me the life i have now - so i wouldnt be able to choose

something has been bothering me FOREVER lol..

okay sooo I was basically 6.5 when I moved to Canada from India... and i've been here for approx 10 years now....

I still follow Indian traditions...watch Indian soaps, watch Bollywood movies, listen to Indian songs n all... and I enjoy Indian songs more than english songs...cuz most of their times Indian songs have more soulful lyrics.....

Basically... you could say that I am very Indian in culture... BUT I am very proud to be just a CANADIAN....I love our image in the world and I love who we are as people.... peaceful...respectful... I like it...and I wouldn't call myself and Indian cuz well I've lived in Canada for 10 years now... and have more memories here than in India....

BUT what I'm frustrated about is.... say India and Canada are at war.... which country will I choose to support... my parents would defenitely say India..... but which country would I choose.... the country that's given me my culture or the country that's given me 10 peaceful years with top-quality education and an amazing quality of life....

whoooo would I chooose? I jus can't seem to understand?

Have u guys ever thought about this? Which country would you choose...your homeland or the nation you immigrated to? I'm very curious to know. And pleaseee say why as welll.

I think the dilemma you face is something that almost anyone who has abandoned their home country for a better future elsewhere fights with...and I identify so much with it. For me, even though I was born in India and lived there for the first five years of my life, over the years I've lived in several different countries - each of which has in its own way contributed toward making me the person I am today. While India may have given me my roots, each one of these other countries has played a role in my upbringing, in me developing the life perspective I have, and it would be just as disloyal to fight them in a war as it would be to fight India. But if I absolutely had no options but to choose, I guess I would choose to fight the war for the country whose causes I believe in and agree with. I think ultimately, at the end of the day, whether or not I fight a country's war would have to depend on what it is that we're fighting for and just how much I believe in what the war stands for.

don't exactly have time right now... But Canada does have any army... there is the RCMP..... and many of our forces are involved with UN's peacekeeping missions... oh n also... World War 1 .... Vimy Ridge was a turning point in World War... organized entirely by Canadians.... in WW2 Canadian forces were responsible for freeing Italy... and we're constantly thanked by the Netherlands for freeing the nation during WW2 I believe...

And my friends and I are always joking about our lack of a strong army... but the fact is that we're actually very proud to live in a country where peace is greatly promoted...and where we don't have a very large army, thereby preventing us from taking any hasty decisions when it comes to war.... and I am very proud that Canada refused to support America in Iraq...peace mentality bilkul kam ayee LOL!...

But though Canada may not have a very strong army, I, at least, am proud that Canada has a sufficient army and does not waste money in trying to buy and build an unnecessary army.

that got a little long.... but yeahh

and I jus really quickly want to add... that the idea of who is more right than the other would probably play a large role for me when I'm deciding who to support....but I highly doubt that in a time of war, I would be reasoning... ppl generally act very irrationally.... sooo I know someone mentioned that going against the country in which u live is treason.... but at a time of war... I doubt that things liek that cross ur mind...u either want to go help out, in my case, all the Indians or stick with the Canadians...it's like an immediate decision...

So question.... in a time of war... do u think ppl even have time to properly decide who to support? Does irrationality take over the driver's seat? Do u think u would actually be able to choose or do u think things will fall into place by themselves?

oh n I love the idea about going to Switzerland... no one can harm us there! LOL!

We had similar dilemma related post about which country should one root for, the one where you are living or the one where you originated from...most chose originating country 😆, hmmm now comes war. It will be PC to say based on citizenship, but with dual citizenships situation gets messier 😆. Everyone has a reason to move away from thier homeland in the first place based on that I would say which ever country fulfills that reason as on current timestamp(date of war) is a viable choice.

Humm..interesting ... I think for you..you will be fine. Chances of India and Canada going on war are far less looking at present picture 😊.... but I guess for each individual they don't know what they will choose when they get there. Right now it's hard for me to say this or that..depends when we get there. And i dont think anything is right or wrong...it's just yet another "choice". And sometime during wars for lot people it's not even a choice. They are sometime forced to leave the country or based on your residential status. Whatever your heart say that's what we choose. And I don't think that your and yoru parents or your and your kids decision should be on same page....

I prefer not to choose at all and remain neutral, if at all possible.😊 If it isn't then I would choose the one that has reasonable reasons for being involved in the war, if both/neither have a valid reason then well...😵 I don't know what to tell you.😆
If the time comes (goodness forbid) then usually people are capable of making up their minds on the spot.
Personally, I'd choose the one I reside in right now as my old country didn't exactly have a stable government. US is stable enough regardless of it not being the same caliber it can be.

i was born in canada and i am canadian, what do u mean by choose? since u live, go to school, work in canada and have been here for a long time you are a citizen and should consider yourself canadian.
i dont think you have to make any kind of "choice" between the two
