Today's episode was heartbreaking.
I think, today, we successfully saw Annika break.
Apart from her tears, we didn't get to see much more of Annika's feelings towards the marriage.
We see Shivaay's anger, his desperation, his reproach, but from Annika? We knew she was upset, and desperately against the marriage, but Shivaay reigned all the wedding scenes with his decisiveness and his control, and his freaking dickiness.
We all anticipated Annika's breakdown very soon, where we would finally get to see the extent, the sheer impact of the wedding on her.
And today we did.
I cried so much today, it was insane. I think that when you see someone who's quite strong in nature finally break, it's extremely touching. Annika trying to stifle her tears while talking to Shivaay was terrible, but so apt at that very moment.
From the beginning, we know that Annika values her freedom and independence to a great extent, so for Shivaay to take that away from her, as she said, was one of the cruelest things that he could have possibly done.
In today's episode, Annika reminded me of a bird whose wings had finally been broken, and as much as it pains me to say it, I don't see Annika really giving much a fight back to Shivaay at this stage. I was hoping that the emotional trauma would eventually die down, and she would return to her original, take-no-shit personality, but the Annika that we saw in today's episode looked well and truly broken, not chained back, or, if we use the bird analogy, had her wings merely clipped.
On that note though, I loved how she gave it back to Tia today, but I still don't think that that tells us that our fighter is returning anytime soon. I think that she'll definitely attempt to go to the ends of the earth to expose/fight back to Tia, but not to Shivaay.
I think that she'll take what Shivaay throws at her more quietly because the pain of being hurt by someone you trust, or love is much, much worse than being hurt by a stranger. Annika will silently rebel, (fingers crossed) avoid him, or take up the opportunity to tell him that she, too doesn't care about this marriage, whether or not she believes what she says at heart.
Speaking of Shivaay, if that whole candle scene was supposed to redeem him in the slightest, yeah, it didn't. If redemption was as simple as slapping your hand onto a lit candle, then Annika would be hugging you by now, SSO. If that scene was supposed to make us emotional at all, to perhaps remind us of the time that he took a beating for her, to imply that he was punishing himself for making her cry, it really didn't affect me at all, apart from the fact that I found it quite frustrating. On the other hand, as dramatised as it looked, him moving his hands away from her at the last minute was quite symbolic. It alluded to the fact that Shivaay was trying to stop just Shivaay from coming out, and trying to keep the cold Shivaay Singh Oberoi at the forefront. I think it really prepares us for his future struggles to accept a girl with nothing to her name, even though he is madly in love with her.
All I hope is that this scene was foreshadowing for his redemption, or even before that. When she talked about the pain of something she loved being taken away from her, all I could imagine was a Mangalpur-esque [from Qubool Hai] where he's on the verge of physically losing her, and what that does to him. Here, I would imagine Daksh would be the one putting Annika into the life or death situation, judging by the kidnap spoilers that we keep hearing about. I wouldn't even mind the sharpshooter thing coming true at this point.
From the Shivika perspective, this episode was extremely upsetting, and probably broke many a heart. I'm eagerly anticipating an irredeemably guilty Shivaay, and the return of our lioness, Annika.
On the other hand, how good was the ShivOmRu confrontation?
It's just the beginning, honestly, imagine how OmRu will react like when they find out that Shivaay forced Annika to get married to him. I loved that we finally see how disappointed they are by what their by what their brother has done, and I'm eagerly waiting for that disappointment to turn into fully-fledged disgust after the marriage revelation comes out. Also, we get to see how Rudra, yet again, acts as the peacemaker between Shivaay and Omkara, the battle between mind and heart. I like that they've kept this consistent, and I strongly suspect that a certain Dumbell Oberoi will be the reason that the vanvaas track is finally resolved. And on the RumYa front, he thinks about the wedding today! I read a spoiler that Pinky will find out about their wedding this time, and well, that's a disaster waiting to happen đ
Lastly, how good was the PriVeer scene?
They freaking came back with a bang, both of them crying was insanely touching, and now I'm extremely interested to see what the ACP does next, in regards to Priyanka.
Overall, this episode was quite intense, and I liked it much, much more than the ones that the CVs were trying to shove down our throats in the last week. As usual, kudos to all the actors, because I felt like they all outdid themselves today.
To mending broken wings, weddings and of course, litres of tears!
