Ranju was yawning away to glory, on her desk. She peeped into the watch for the umpteenth time. It flashed 8pm. She glanced through her calendar - it was 8th November.
"Cursed luck", she mumbled. It would be her Birthday in 4 hrs time and here, she was stuck in accounts. She roughly closed all the files and stretched a bit. The office was nearly empty, save for a few moaning and yawning heads. Without acknowledging them, she left straight for home.
She excitedly logged into IF, thinking and grinning about the things her friends must be planning for her. Cakes, Jalebi and rabri! Wow. But here too, her luck failed. By the chats, it appeared that no one actually knew it was her Birthday. Frustrated, she crashed down her laptop screen and went off to bed without dinner.
But little did she know that her Birthday morning would have a grand kick start.
"Uth Jao! Uth Jao! Ranju!", her mother screamed in the early morning.
"Ki gal hai?", she mumbled without a thought.
"Kal Tak News Channel has offered you a job!", she shouted gleefully.
"Ki??!", she sprang out of bed. Her mother told her to check her mail.
It read :
Dear Ranju,
We've been closely following all your written updates for EDKV Episodes and you've been great at them. We see, you have an easy knack for reporting and journalism hence we wish to hire you as a Junior Reporter with Kal Tak.
We will be awaiting your presence at our office today, before Noon
Looking forward to meet you.
Kal Tak Chairperson.
She jumped in joy. Good riddance from that accounting desk job! God was grateful indeed. Just when she had started to believe that her life was stuck between home and figures, He had opened new doors!
She dressed up at jet speed and ran to the office.
After a short wait at the Reception, she was called in.
"Sat Sri Akal!", greeted the Head
She smiled and took a seat.
"I've been impressed by your reporting skills on LU Threads. Hence I want you to report live events for our Channel"
"It'll be my pleasure Sir",she beamed.
"So I believe there shouldn't be any delay. I want you to join work today and your assignment is to report the launching event of Namik Paul's new serial"
"What what what?", rang her mind. It couldn't get any lucky! Kismat bhi saali kutti cheez hain, kabhi bhi palat jaati hai!
She thanked him and met her team of A Cameraman and a technician.
Sharp at 7, she reached the venue where she also bumped into her IF friends. Priyam, Zoya, Mahi, Suruchi, Reshma, Abhilasha & Sanju.
"Creepyheads", she grumbled and went off without a Hello.
Soon, the reporting began and she enjoyed every bit of it. What an experience!
Her eyes were only focussed on Namik. She felt he'd grown hotter after EDKV. And seeing him live was a treat!
After the event wrapped up, she was glancing through the recording when someone tapped on her shoulder.
She turned around to see it was Namik.
"Your friends here told me it's your Birthday" Said Namik pointing to the hooting girls.
And he splashed cake on her face.
"Happy Birthday Hai ji Aapko Ranju!" went everyone in chorus, including Namik.
But she couldn't hear it because she'd fainted from the luck overdose.
