When I first saw the initial promo of Siya ke Ram around Jan-Feb 2015 my first thought was who will play Ram. Because from the title itself it was clear that the show's USP was going to be Ram. Ram is a very complex character. Because what defines Ram is the serenity in his eyes. A kind of serenity that allures you and gives you peace. And this serenity never leaves Ram's eyes even in the toughest situations he faced in his life. So the actor playing Ram has to show all emotions without sacrificing the serenity in the eyes. Because there is no Ram without serenity in eyes.

Another aspect of Ram is he is handsome. Remarkably handsome. He has to own the screen when he stands. Just like the Thygaraja Keerthana says " Ravisomavara nethra, Ramaniya Gathra ( The eyes in which sun and moon shines and the one who has handsome body). Yes Ram is Kamalanetra. The eyes has to be beautiful over and above the face and other features. And it has to be masculine, not the chocolate boy handsomeness.

Then comes the voice. As much as you read about Ram you will know if you want to experience Ram the voice has to be soothing something that lulls your senses to a level that gives inner peace. And this soothing feeling has to be there with all emotions. Or rather the dialogue delivery has to be perfect.

Even if one aspect goes wrong feel of Ram is gone. That was when I read Ashish Sharma is going to do Ram. Believe me I was like gone. I have not watched Rang Rasiya. But know tit bits of it. I knew the leading man of the show was an angry young man. An army officer. And from some stills of the show I saw online Ashish Sharma didn't look Ram from any angle. I didn't feel he was handsome enough or his eyes looked Kamalanetra to play Ram( Fans please forgive me for this , but that is the truth).

Then I read he did mediatation and all to play the role of Ram. So I anyways decided to wait. Guy seems to have put some effort let me see. What unfolded was an experience that cannot be explained in words. Ashish nailed Ram. I cannot say which scene was the best, because there were many. But what I liked the most about him was his eyes. The expression in his eyes were remarkable. He bought that twinkle in the eyes that showed Hari's Leela without missing the serenity. If the scene in Kopabhavan was superlative the scenes that followed it were over and above superlative. He defined every role of Ram son, brother, lover, husband, warrior, leader, king, father and finally we could see Lord Narayan himself in Ram.

If that was not enough he carried Ravan in Ram. And only in that eyes we could see Ravan and nowhere else. He did magic with his eyes. The episodes leading to BP if not for Ashish's eyes we would have never been able to understand the difference of Hari's leela and the actions of Ram. The dialogues confused you, but Ashish carried the full story in his eyes. We have heard about Krishna ki leela. But Ashish proved Leela can be showed for Ram also without losing the essence of Ram. Afterall Ram is also Hari.

Now leave eyes. Did he look Ram otherwise. Yes he looked Ram every inch. He defined every poet's imagination of Ram.

And dialogue delivery. The voice modulation he bought was so so good that even in anger we could get the soothing feeling.

All in all if Siya Ke Ram is success the major credit goes to the man who played the title role to perfection or rather I will say beyond perfection. He did full justice to a remarkable script and a good direction.

Another thing I want to highlight about Ashish after watching SKR is that Ashish has kind of a versatility which you see in very few actors. Or rather let me tell if he puts effort and gets great scripts in shows and Bollywood he has the capacity to reach the heights where Padmashree Bharath Mohanlal reached.

Why I have highlighted this celebrated Malayalam actor. It is because he is one actor I have found among many actors I have seen who could carry the role of an underworld don Vincent Gomez in Rajavinte Makan, a mental patient in Thalavattom, a maverick psychatricist of Manichitrathazhu, boy next door of TP Balagopalan MA, emotionally torn brother of Bharatham, a family man torn between his love and wife in Pakshe and Alzhemier's patient in Thanmatra and spoilt brat in Devasuram with such perfection that we feel he is the character. I have only highlighted some of the best characters of Mohanlal but each of the movies he did in 80's and 90s were different and each role he lived.

Whenever a Malayalam movie is remade to Hindi or Tamil especially Hindi we Keralites will always crib who is going to do Mohanlal's role since there is no actor we could find in Bollywood who could justice to the roles he did. Akshay kumar is fine in Bhool Bhulaiyya but you should never think of Dr Sunny in Manichitrathazhu, but other actors we have felt banging our head against the wall when we think about the original.

First time I felt an actor can do justice to those roles in Hindi in Ashish if given a chance. He will rule the screen if ever he is given the role of Vincent Gomez if Rajavinte Makan is made in Hindi. Because Ashish can bring the nuance such well author backed roles need. Mohanlal was lucky to get great scripts to prove his versatility as an actor and he went onto win National Awards also.

I wish Ashish also gets great scripts which will show his potential as an actor and take him to new heights. He is an actor whom you can imagine in a Kalidasa Classic, a Jeffrey Archer adaptation or a contemporary love story. Wishing you all the best Ashish Sharma. Siya ke Ram belonged to you.

PS: I am not a Ashish Fan. SKR is the first show where I have watched Ashish

Shruthi di,it felt great to read your views on AS.And I agree with all of them.

In our day to day life,we like many actors. But I feel that there are only a few actors whom we genuinely admire.Again there are fewer actors who earn our respect along with our admiration.AS is one of them.

I came across him when he played CGM.And I was blown away. After that I began watching all his shows.Gradually, the liking for him turned into admiration and deep respect after knowing that he is a gem of a human being too.

I have said this many times but I was a bit stunned when I came to know that he will be playing Lord Ram.Maybe it's because I was used to seeing him as Major Rudra. But when he came onscreen as Ram,I felt that this was a completely different person. There was not a trace of his previous character. This had happened earlier too.But the effect which he had as Ram was everlasting.

He brought out every single aspect of Ram's character beautifully. The Kopbhavan scene left me speechless. And there was always this serenity when he played Vishnu.

He is an extremely versatile actor. He always does something different and whatever he does he gives in his best to it.And the outcome is the tremendous success which he rightfully deserves. This guy is like water. It takes the form of any vessel it's put in.Similarly Ashish becomes the character he portrays. His dedication and commitment towards his work is beyond words.

I wish him all the success and I can't wait for him to return as a different and powerful character.

Oh!! And a special mention about his eyes. This man has got the most beautiful and espressive eyes.

Awesome post Shruthi. Reposting my post on Ashish from the farewell thread here as well. Since it is more on just what I saw in AshishAsRam...

SKR was the first time I came to know of an actor by name Ashish Sharma and then in course of the show I did get to watch some of his older shows. What a transformation from the previous angry young man avatar to the Calm and serene Ram...previous character was very liberal with words and emotions, Ram is known for a man of few words and controlled emotions. AshishAsRAM was able to bring out the expressions and feel of every scene even when there was very few or no dialogues. In every aspect be it physically, mentally or emotionally could see the character Ram. Hats off to his passion and dedication!!!

There are various shades of the SitaRam in due course of the show - Be it starting with the longingness to see the person who had been kind to the horse, restrained admiration for the Mithila princess, shyness in talking to the newly wedded wife, then the ease in company of each other, the protective and caring husband, willingness to accept right ideas without ego, angry yet soon to get back his composure after any argument, the pain of separation and determination to bring his wife and her respect, the anger and vengeance in fighting with her abductor, possessive and naughty husband, the conflict between RajaRam and SitaRam, the steadfastness to the love of his life, repentance without ego, and finally the acceptance of reality yet hold her in his heart eternally. Above is only the path travelled with Sita, but with each character that Ram interacted with there has to be a different bhavna - son, brother, student, King, friend, lord, father, redeemer, admirer...the list goes on...all this can be done but then if we add a quotient to it saying it has be DIVINE then the whole equation changes. But AshishAsRAM flawlessly executed each bhavna and made believe the travel of a man to Lord.

AshishAsRAM stands tall as sky among several others who has played the role before and will be remembered for years to come!!! Wishing Ashish the best and hope to see many other good shows from him!!!

This is so overwhelming to read as a Ashish fan
U have covered everything
As u said the best thing about Ashish is his eyes
I did see the initial reaction when he was casted
u thought in ur mind, but many were open about it😆😆
Even our first reaction weren't a happy one
Not that we didn't trust that he would pull it off
But we felt Ram would be too monotonous
But then that was just our initial reaction
then we realized that "it's Ashish"
He doesn't choose a role just for Money or Fame
He is a passionate actor who loves his craft
who openly says that he would rather not act than to do "furniture roles"
yes that's how he describes certain roles😆😆
He would do Movie/TV/Theatre, only the roles matter to him not the medium and
would not repeat any of his roles
If he has chosen it then, it has to be good and performance oriented one

That's the trust he has created with all his work over years
From a Cute blushing Gunda Bhaiyaji to a fighting warrior Chandra Gupta Maurya,
a bubbly Ranveer who turns dark, to an intense army major "Rudra Pratap Ranawat"
Every time people thought that he can't play any other role than this
that's the best compliment he got, as he made everyone think he is that character alone

His physical appearance and Voice Modulation(including accent) is diff for his every role
I think he isn't as much as popular, which he deserved to be bcos
he isn't recognized as Ashish on the screen
General Audience who saw him as Ram didn't recognize that
he was the same person who played Rudra😭😆
Now when he comes back in his next show no one will recognize him as Ram
I assure u that 😆😆

But the best Part of ur post was
comparing him with Mohanlal
what a great honour
Hope ur words come true and he reaches all heights

On a funny note
if Rudra's fans read that their Major Saa isn't handsome🥺
the day he shaved of his mooch many fans cried🤣

Shruthi di u know how I feel about your posts :))
Your way of writing is what makes me read the post multiple times :)) And about what u felt about Ashish before, it's the initial reaction before all his shows, as his previous characters image is so strong in our minds 😆

Ashish was my favorite actor way before SKR started, but I don't know when n how he became my favorite. Was it the looks or his screen presence or acting, I actually didn't know...I lo ved him since his first show but Before I could officially call myself as Ashish's fan I had watched almost 3 shows of him... my liking for him has kept on growing day by day, because he could make me connect to his characters like no other actor could do.. when I felt his characters pain , I wept with his character, his characters had an everlasting effect on me, I started liking the actor..
When I heard he will be playing Lord Ram, I wasn't sure? I liked Lord Ram, but on the same time, I felt he's a divine, I might respect him, but not connect to his actions...
I love mythological shows so it was actually a treat that my favorite would be a part of it, but still I as u said Ram has certain characteristics, which I hadn't seen in Ashish before, because of the strong image of Rudra he had created in my mind.
Not that he wasn't handsome, he is definitely one of the most handsome guys out there, but he's ruggedly handsome
Most importantly Ashish's forte is multiple shaded characters, dynamically changing their behavior n emotional scenes, which won't be there in Ram as he's a serene or simple character (I thought so before 😆)

Also acting wise I felt Ashish is real life is very much like Ram. I mean quiet n reserved n has a sweet smile. So what's actually there to act?

But I trusted Ashish n his choice, If he has taken this up, it can't be just a simple mythology, it definitely has something to offer, and it did! It gave me the most connectable Ram, as a human... his actions, his words his thoughts showed his divinity... He was definitely not that Ashirwaad dene wale Ram ji 😆

I saw Rama as a prince, a warrior, a son, a lover, a husband, and finally a King.. who had to banish his wife for dharma but his love for her never died...
Ashish has made me see n connect to Ram in a way that I never connected before..
And all these layers he gave without losing the serenity in his eyes, as u said.. n voice modulation n physique etc.. he just moulded himself completely...
And coming to Ashish's forte, muti layered characters! I think that shift from Ram to Narayan then again Ram then again Narayan.. seriously only Ashish could do! He was literally just switching btw the 2. And finally the journey from human to God of Ram ... Ashish nailed it all !!!
And I think Ashish has gained a fan in me all over again!! He just kept growing each day, and will keep growing 😃

About success and all , I would say he is one of the most underrated actors of TV.
And it's because he keeps switching genres of shows... Like the fans he earned from his love story, wont watch SKR vice versa. and he completely changes his looks that sometimes becomes unrecognizable 😆
But Ashish has the love and support of nutral audience... whenever he does a role he is appreciated by nutral members like you.
His fans hardly need to make any appreciation posts etc...all done by nutral members 😳😆
And this is because of the reason that he lives the character.. with his hardwork n dedication , n his capability to completely get into the skin of a character, of any kind , that he makes us connect to his character like anything... the quality which made me his fan 😃

When it comes to Ashish I can just gone on.. so stopping here 😆
Once again Beautiful post ..And you compared him to such a legendary actor, AShish couldn't have got any better compliment😃.
your final post in SKR forum, will always remember this :))

PS sorry for the long post 😆

@Mano I didnt tell he is not handsome, I only said I didnt feel he had that look of Ram. The kind of handsomeness you expect for Ram. Because Ram lives in your imagination 😆😆. Mohanlal also was his roles and he was lucky to get those scripts during the golden age of Malayalam Cinema. Problem of TV is that it lacks good scripts that a male actor can do or it doesnt take risks. Malayalam Cinema took lot of risk with scripts in those 80's 90s and all. Bollywood is presently taking risks. A furniture role is a wastage of Ashish's talent.
@vd you have also covered the best aspects of Ashish

@youliveonce yes dear his eyes define him and one thing I know if he is acting in another show/ movie I will obviously give it a chance to see what it is even if Ekta Maiyya makes it.

I was just kidding😆😆
Ashish himself didn't think that he looks like Ram in any angle
"why me?" was his first reaction when Nikhil Sinha came up with this offer😆😆

I always used to rant to my friends that
Ashish should do south movies
He should learn Tamil(I am biased😆😆)
I hated when his voice was dubbed in RR and SKR Tamil dubs🤢
Jokes apart, Malayalam cinema takes more risks
while Telugu Cinema is more about Masala movies(not in a wrong sense)
I think Tamil cinema is a mixture of both
Also the important factor is
though we do have star kids
but people without any BG like a Ajith, Sivakartikeyan, Vijay Sethupathy
can make it big based on talent alone
which isn't easy in other industries I guess
How I wished he met some south director in Ramoji film city🤔😆

What an amazing dedication to Ashish. Coming from u it means so much more. Many of my fellow gangurls know that whenever Ashish gets praised i puff up like a balloon😆...i almost feel like I was personally responsible lol...today after reading ur post , I am walking on air...
He is a sorcerer for sure...those eyes of his enable him to get into the skin of any character...but he doesnt rest on his laurels...he works at his craft...he sculpts himself for the role n very easily disappears into his characters...his passion is going to carry him to greater heights...

To have his name in the same sentence as Mohanlal, let alone being compared to him, is a triumph for him as an actor.

He is going for that psycho he so loves next😆...would love to see u there.😃
