You misinterpreted the segment. They were about to ask him when karthik dropped the bombshell on them that he is resigning and is planning on going back to the US to perhaps start his own business but told gayu that he isn't so selfish that he would leave without helping her in her work and promised to finish her work and then leave.BTW, i really don't believe the latest spoilers about karthik being asked about marrying gayu and agreeing thinking they are talking about naira after seeing the segment.
