Shivaay Press Screening on Thursday evening, a big mistake

2 min read

The press screening of Shivaay' took place at Fun Cinemas (Mumbai) at 6:30PM on Thursday. The reviews have been scathing, writing the film off as yet another disappointment this year.

But why did someone as experienced as Ajay Devgn decide to show the film to the media on Thursday evening - is something that we haven't been able to understand. It was clear from the promos itself that Shivaay' was never going to be the kind of film that would win over the critics.

When the chances of getting those positive reviews are so low, why risk the flow of negative reviews on Thursday night itself?

A well-known trade analyst once told us that it's unethical to publish reviews of films before 1PM on Friday and that's how it should be. Media shouldn't be allowed to file their reviews before the first show on Friday, even if they are shown the film on Thursday.

The trend of press screenings and Thursday night reviews is doing the industry more harm than good. It's also ruining the experience for those who like the trailer and want to the film on Friday morning.

While negative reviews could've cost Shivaay' a couple of crores on Friday, the main distributor of the competing film, Fox Star Studios, took a decision last year to not show their films to the press on Thursday.

Shivay's trailer had given me goosebumps...I don't understand how people are saying that the trailer was not good...especially with Ajay's intense acting?🤔

Perhaps AD was very confident about movie so he showed it to Press for getting a good Review advantage .
If the movie was good and reviews were fantastic, it would have pulled the audience towards Shivay.
It was a risk that didn't pay off.

From what I read, if you are into action and tons of action shots make a movie for you, you'll like Shivaay.
If you prefer having some emotional connect to the characters and the story, you won't like Shivaay.
If you also prefer movies on the shorter side, you will get restless by the time Shivaay ends.

Shivaay never caught my attention, so no question of going to theatre and won't be watching even on internet because of bad reviews now.

But why did someone as experienced as Ajay Devgn decide to show the film to the media on Thursday evening

Because he obviously thought he made some masterpiece. He was overconfident. He was also overconfident in clashing with Karan's ADHM. Karan has great experience + an enviable BO track record.. Ajay has neither experience as a director, nor an enviable BO record, as a director (U me aur hum) or as an actor (minus those Rohit Shetty films).

The trend of press screenings and Thursday night reviews is doing the industry more harm than good. It's also ruining the experience for those who like the trailer and want to the film on Friday morning.

It is not exactly ruining the experience of those who want to watch on Friday FDFS. In fact the opposite; it is helping them. Those who watch regardless of reviews will not even read reviews anyway. It's those for whom reviews matter, that will read the reviews and opt out of watching the film.

Oh btw, regardless of the press screenings on Thursday, the film released in the UAE-GCC circuit on Thursday too, and that had both audience+critics from that circuit saying what these reviews did. So even if you had not conducted the press screenings, the result would have been more or less the same.

In terms of *cinematography* trailer was good ---- but there was too much action for my taste ---- *all fluff & no substance* & that's exactly what happens when one forgets the importance of *script* ---- i feel a lot of people would have found the same --- there has to be a *balance* to attract audience from *different walks of life* ---- i feel he failed to do so & focused too much on one element --- *action* ---- !!!!

Is Shivaay a take on the version of Taken? If so, I'm in. I'll watch it after ADHM whilst friends watch Inferno
