Ae Dil Hai Mushkil' director-producer Karan Johar recently made a shocking confession at Mumbai Film Festival 2016 (MAMI). According to the confession, Karan Johar wanted to destroy actress Anushka Sharma's Bollywood career. In fact, he tried his best to replace Anushka with another lead actress in Aditya Chopra's film, Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi'. But, he could not succeed to it.
At MAMI, Karan Johar with the leading actresses of his film,
Aishwarya Rai Bachchan and Anushka Sharma made their presence for a panel discussion with popular film critics Anupama Chopra and Rajeev Masand.
During the discussion, when Karan Johar was questioned on why did he choose Anushka Sharma in the lead role, he quickly said, "Firstly, let me confess that initially, I really tried my level best to sabotage her career. I totally wanted to completely murder Anushka Sharma's career because I did not like her image. When Aditya Chopra showed me her images; I was like no-no'. I told him that he was crazy to sign Anushka for his film. There was another lead actress at that time; I wanted Adi to sign her. Yes, I was totally behind the scene sabotaging her completely. In fact, I watched the movie, Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi' with lots of hesitation and doubts."
So, what made Karan Johar sign Anushka Sharma for his film? "It was Anushka's Band Baja Baaraat' that made me realized that I was wrong. In fact, after watching that film, I felt like I owed her an apology. Apology because I felt so embarrassed that I would have actually ruined the graph of an exceptional talent. She is really very amazing."
Karan Johar's confession was applauded by all of them present at the discussion. Though Anushka did not utter a single word, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan chose to comment on it.
"I want to applaud Karan because what he did right now was amazing. He publicly said how he owes an apology to Anushka; that usually doesn't happen. Who does that? People comment behind you but nobody comes out and says that, I have said this about you and I am sorry, you proved me wrong.' That's outstanding," said Aishwarya Rai Bachchan.
