I just watched today's episode, and I just have a few things to say about Annika in this episode, and moreover, in the precap. As we saw yesterday, Shivaay tears Annika to shreds, and as heartbroken as I was, I found myself being quite proud that Annika walked out of Oberoi Mansion with the last word, and with her self-respect intact. As an audience, we originally fell in love with strong Annika, and to see that the CV's made sure that the essence of her character remained afloat was highly commendable.
And yet today, all that was forgotten.
We don't see much of Annika today, which is quite expected (what with all of the drama in the mansion!). But of what we do see of her, we are yet again met with an unnecessarily emotional Annika and it makes me so upset.
Why does she immediately take it upon herself to rescue Shivaay?
Does he really deserve it at the moment?
Don't get me wrong, I love Shivaay, but truth be told, he was extremely shitty in the last two episodes. I understand that he was just being defensive and his love for his family overruled any other emotions he was harbouring but still. While there may be method to his madness, I don't think that manhandling Annika really scored points for him in any spectrum.
Anyhow, of all the people, Annika should recognise that she needs to stay away from him.
And she did.
For one whole, long night.
Seriously, CV's?
I get that Shivaay and Annika are soulmates and that she needs to support him, no matter what he does, because in the end, they love each other. But they're not in love yet.
I think that there's definitely more feelings from Shivaay's end (whatever shit he says or does), but I don't think they're in love yet. I think that they understand, trust and care for each other. While this may be the road to love, they haven't reached that far yet.
So, when Annika decides to be his saviour yet again, it hits me hard.
I hate that she didn't even get to be completely away from him for one episode. I love ShivIka, so when I heard that she was going to quit her job, I was really down.
The only thing that made me happy was to think about the longing and emotional turmoil we would see on both part's throughout their distance.
Indeed, absence makes the heart go fonder.
But we didn't get time for any of that, because from what the precap shows, Annika insinuates that Shivaay was at her house at the time of the murder - thus, providing an alibi, and yet again, saving the Oberoi's from another disaster. I really dislike that she put her own self-respect on the line for a man who time and time again shows her that he doesn't care for her enough.
It makes me upset that indian television's female leads are always shown to be flawless, and selfless, and giving and sacrificial and it's just so contrived because that's not how the real world works. Everyone has darker shades to their personalities, and I think that Indian television just refuses to acknowledge that with their female leads. Gul Khan had one real chance to beat this stereotype with Ishaana, but she blew it, so I wish she would at least show it in her other female leads. Shivaay, Omkara and Rudra all have flaws; yet Annika and Saumya are shown to be perfect, their only shortcomings are a mere cruelty of fate, and not due to their own internal beings.
I just wish that Indian television would stop glorifying their female characters so much.
They are humans. They have flaws. They can make mistakes and be selfish. They don't constantly have to go out on a limb to help others. They don't always need to sacrifice.
They don't always have to be so goddamn perfect.
TBH, when I saw the precap, I physically cringed.
All I can hope is that the next episode redeems Ishqbaaaz and Annika's characterisation in the next few episodes.
Cheers,
Innika
