Disclaimer: I hate kitchen politics. It brings out the worst in women. And it causes insecurities in very confident women. It makes senior women the worst enemies of younger ones. Cat fights are the ultimate, but the sneaky insidious conniving games are the most disgusting. Yuck.
Just like the time Neha couldn't use the expensive lehenga Dev gave her, he is hurt by Saurabh's refusal of his shagun car gift. Sigh. He wanted to give Saurabh, the well wisher of DevAkshi, a gift for being there for them in their hard times. I get the sentiment. But it is too generous, it would make Sourabh uncomfortable to do it. Surely there will be other times Dev could return the favour where it would be much appreciated.

Vicky returning the shagun gifts so rudely was BAD. In contrast, Saurabh was so respectful and polite in his refusal. Maybe it would have been better if they had sent back the car with Vicky only...😡.. With all this going on, Dev decides to sulk and be mad at Sona. but I'm pretty sure he'll be back in the nick of time with puppy dog eyes... poor chap was denied even a first kiss !

But contrary to some opinions: Ishwari did try to save Sonakshi from Dadi Bua's scrutiny. She did warn her to feign tiredness and avoid the next rasam; Rasoi ki rasam. Because she knew it would be disastrous. And Ishwari knows Dadi Bua well, and dare I say, seems also as stressed out with her presence in the house. She's trying to manage her own bullying Grand Aunt-in law.

And she knew this was not the time to just wing it, by reading recipes of the internet. It was an impending disaster. So she helped. She helped her do it. All Sona had to do was play along, because she should have seen how stressful it was for Ishwari also. She could have just been cooperative and together with Ishwari , sent off Dadi Bua happily.

It was her chance to gain favour of Ishwari, that she will be a team player. Even if the kids recognize their mum's cooking, they would just shut their trap and let things be. Only GKB i don't trust. I keep putting my middle finger up everytime she appears on my screen. 😡

Sigh...

Friends, this is a saas bahu serial.

From the start. A guy, a girl, her future saas.

Agree with your post.
I also feel ishwari was genuinely trying to sort this rasoi rasam but her methods are primitive.
CVs are making it a sick kitchen politics game. Sona should have stuck with preparing a sweet dish and that's it (instead of falling into this trap of preparing an elaborate menu).
Honesty is the best policy and would have saved Sona from the upcoming embarrassment and also from ishwari now playing off the mahaan card.

Ishwari only knows how to lie and deceive. Even her own kids.. phir dadi bua and sona kya cheez hain 😆 With all the jhooth, chaalakian, dhokhebaazi she does in the name of motherly love tells me khatri has something on her.. something she has done in the past. She clearly scared him when she said purani wali Ishwari naa ban jaaoun. I shudder to think whats in this woman's past. A woman who didnt hesitate to defraud her own son, future DIL and future grandchild 😡 and then justified by saying.. i am safeguarding my daughters' futures. Same mother who doesnt give a damn about either of the girls and shuts them up to suit her mood swings?

As for sona.. yes.. she is turning into aacrifical lamb all in the name of impressing her in laws. Where is the sherni we saw glimpse of yesterday? More she shows her fears to Ish, more Ishwari will overpower her!

I hate kitchen politics too. But I don't think deception was the solution. It's just root of more problems.
Ishwari's auto mode is deception, lying and cheating. I personally don't find it's a great lesson to teach a new daughter-in-law in the name of tradition.

I made a post on my perspective of the situation. Do check it out.

People like Dadi Bua are nasty. Look at how she is with her own minion. Nasty, bullying and demeaning. Some women think giving birth to a son, makes them something special. Absolute bullSh8...

So GKB announced that Sonakshi can't cook. So why give her a full course meal menu for her to prepare? Who is the saas here? In this new relationship, Ishwari is the saas. Why does Dadi Bua get to reign supreme over all? Because she is the saas of the saas?

To me it looks like Dadi Bua is stressful even to Ishwari and if Sona gets any help, she should accept.

All women are small insecure girls before their scary saas, if one helps another and gets caught, she will abandon ship for sure. Helping Sona with her rasoi ki rasam, is one thing she can do as her saas. But fighting and risk insulting her bua saas is detrimental to her self preservation.

Very good post. Yes it has now become a complete Saas Bahu Saga which generally play in every home ,if not our generation the older generation definitely got habituated to see Kitchen politics . You used the correct term.
Dev's intention is good. But his timing is wrong. I agree he could have done it later after all the misunderstandings forgotten, with both the families interact and understand well but it takes time. Dev Dikshit has his way with gifts. So his annoyance is bound to happen.

Iswari is honest. She really wanted Sona to skip the rasam and let Dadi Bua leave as of now. I see nothing wrong in her effort to help Sona in this matter.
If Sona thinks telling lie is against her conscience it's OK but she should remember even she did not reveal her affair to her parents for a long time.
Not expected this kind of events to be a part of the show. My concept of Initial promos is. Quite different I must say. Ofcourse it is a boy, girl, mother story but promos gave a different picture.

I have a difficult mother in law, trust me I know enough tips on how to escape with your soul unscathed. When she starts her Spanish Inquisition, all fortresses will crumble. And each has to save their own hide. Because she reigns supreme and is unapologetic about it.

You can't fight women like these and live happily. You'd have chosen a life of constant new problems appearing and counter manipulations. it's easier to just let her have her way sometimes but draw a line at personal space. Priorities are set and adhered to. With age she will learn that she behaved abominably and change for the better.

Sona is living with them now, and she has to adjust to them, like it or not. She is trying her best, everything is new and different, but she'll find her place in no time.

I agree on the principle that deception is the root of more problems. But see, Dadi Bua knows Sona cannot cook. But she gave her a difficult list of dishes to prepare, one that even rattled Ishwari. Her intention was to defeat Sona and bring her to heel in the Great Realm of Kitchen and Domestic Affairs.

She spoke proudly of her education and her earning, to put GKB down for being mean. But she unintentionally made the lesser educated in the house feel lowly and sneer to use their strengths to cause her trouble. It's subtle, but it happens.

My in laws are doctors, and they subjected me to an interrogation of my area of expertise, FIL read some old journals and tried to question my research by his antiquated understanding. But the issue here was not that I knew better than him/her but that I must be respectful of my elders. Once i understood that, there wasn't a fight anymore.

The issue in yesterday's epi is that the women in the Dixit house are not trying to do these rasams to make Sonakshi feel accepted or at home. But to teach her that she is very low in the pecking order hierarchy, and shouldn't do as she pleased just because she is better educated with her fancy notions of equality, self respect and independence.

Sonakshi should survive this occasion, not try to change them now. There are better opportunities for her to change things later. It's only been a day.

Will hop over to your thread soon 😉

Thanks Itelidevara..

I dunno why people expected "real life"to be any different from "saas bahu serials", because for many life is exactly like that. I just wished that they balanced out the drama with a positive outlook and show how differences are settled in a mature manner at the end of the day.

Because if we have to watch our favourite TV escape of 20 minutes, just to experience our own yucky life feelings there also... makes one feel like they'd rather not.😆

Sorry to barge in your convo...
Elders - Who do we call as elders here? Just because they are elder in age or in experience or in values or in behavior?

What is the arena here? Professional or Personal? Is it about your intelligence quotient or about your emotional quotient? If it's professional arena then never one brings in the age factor to give respect.. If you are being evaluated for your intelligence and you think you have an idea that works like a charm, then you never bother what is the age of your team member.. All that matters is put forth the point without being possessive about your own idea... Make it a discussion and not an argument and work towards getting it done as a team... And if it is about emotional connect then there is no question about being interrogated... The respect should not be demanded it's gotta come automatically with the character that they portray... Why will I respect someone just because he/she is elder to me but all her/his actions are very very inferior to the age...

And if Ishu is teaching me to lie and deceive why will I respect her for these values when these are clashing with mine?
