Compromise of Ideology or Plot Hole? - Is Omkara a Liar?

Nayan and I were discussing some of the scenes that we loved on this show, when this came up.

So remember when Omkara attempts suicide - later on in the famous kitchen scene, he placates Shivaay by telling him that his intention was not to die. He only wanted to sleep. He wanted to escape for a while.

So then how did he end up in the pool? Unless he sleeps in the pool, which doesn't quite sound plausible.

Then was Saint Omkara - the epitome of truth and morality, lying to his beloved elder brother?

He attempted suicide. He then lied about it. What authority does he then have, to preach honesty and morality?

CVs is this just a plot hole, poor characterisation or a compromise of Om's values?

Fair point. But thinking this way, if he had taken drugs like Opioids or hallucinogens, he might have hallucinated and ended up in the pool. In a drug overdose u lose control over your body and see weird things. So he might have ended up in the pool.

He took sleeping pills though. Does one hallucinate on sleeping pills? They have to be prescription drugs, because in an earlier scene he told Shivaay that he was not in possession of drugs.

Unless of course, he was lying there as well.

Actually sleeping pills are benzodiazepines. They depress your brain function and in overdose can make u delirious. So technically they can.
But now that I am thinking about it more, I don't think the show makers would think this deep. So may be he is just a different person, the drug addict Om, or a hypocrite or you are right, it's a loop hole.

Person who takes moral high ground all the time, i would assume should not resort to drugs of any sort even if he has problems. This could be accidental overdose as they call it in many celebrity suicide cases. So i guess it could be possible.

He keeps saying if cd was true he will support truth, not family. I want to know what he will do. Leave house or get tej and shakti arrested(but police are already on to it)? Just not supporting them is something he is already doing.

I thought about this but then I realized he also said he wanted to just sleep but he underestimated and hence, overdosed. He may have truly fallen into the pool and floated

Apologies for coming off so rude. It was not my intention. I've been extremely frustrated by this Omkara idealism. He is not some sort of God amongst men - he is deeply flawed too and I wish people acknowledged that more often.
In any case, I agree that I cam across too rude to the Omkara fandom and for that I apologise.

Exactly! Om is of such an escapist mentality and I really resent that. He is also majorly hypocritical. When he finds out that Mallika runs away from her wedding, he completely disapproves, but what does he do - he runs away from his problems as well rather than facing them like a real man.

Of all the Oberoi children, Omkara is the greatest disappointment in my opinion. At least his brothers do not feign morality- they are what they are. Om is deluded. He is living behind a mask and he doesn't even realise it.
